  1. I am looking at the gold series 7'2 m-fast medium which has a lure weight of 1/4-5/8 oz and the classic 7'2 med parabolic which has a lure weight of 3/8-3/4. I fish over the weeds most of the time do you think the parabolic will allow me to pull them out of the weeds? or do you think the moderate fast will have a little more spine to help keep them out of the weeds
  2. citica. I have 2 getting another in a week or so.
  3. does anyone think the medium is too light. i once used a 7' med moderate gloomis i I felt it was way too whippy for me. I wish i could see one before i buy but no one around here sells them. any idea why they don't make a med-hvy parabolic?
  4. I am finally going to buy one and trying to decide on the gold or the original, and I am not quite sure which one to get for cranks. first thought is 7' mh moderate action but i don't see one in their rod listing. not quite sure what parabolic is. any recommendations? I plan to throw mostly shallow cranks, baby 1-'s, bandit footloose, storm sub warts etc. as for baitcasting reels I am a shimano fan but am considering branching out any suggestions for throwing the baits i mentioned. thanks
  5. 7' med-hvy moderate st. Croix avid, with a shimano citica spooled with 14# suffix braid caught on a yellow and black baby 1- my buddy FAILS at taking pics he only got about 1/3 of the fish in the pic
  6. you need to grab fast and sure because they will usually give a couple pretty good shakes and then sit still. you probably don't notice this in the shows because they are on the other side of the boat from the camera or you arn't looking for it. hope that helps. oh those rapala sure grips with the built in scales are nice too because you don't have to worry about hooking your thumb only problem is $$$
  7. if it is a smaller fish EAT HIM! fish taste good and what better than fresh fish for dinner. the stuff is worth at least $700 a pound. I don't keep them very often in fact if I want dinner I will target sunnies or crappies but if I have a bleeder or one that is gut hooked I keep him and the next three I catch under 2 lbs.
  8. quantum reels, my accurist is garbage.
  9. I went fishing with a buddy today after work on a pretty well known musky lake. we were bass fishing but there wasn't much going on so he takes out his musky setup and starts hucking this big topwater deal and I stuck with my fluke. any way I cast my fluke and as I watch my line I see a musky swimming with it's head out of the water I point it out to my buddy just as it swims over my line right about at the middle of a pretty decent cast and goes nuts, I mean jumping fully out of the water and I'm like why can I feel this. the musky had swam into my line and somehow got tangled up in it! the musky is going nuts and running and as he does I can feel my line slipping around him or something it felt like when your line gets caught in the trolling motor that kind of ticking tugging deal, and as I got him to the boat I see my 5/0 gammy stuck in one of his rear fins I got him along side the boat and I loosened my drag alot because I could see he wasn't hooked very well. as my buddy reaches for it it takes off pulling drag ( I was ready for this) and man he d**n near spooled me, then the hook popped off! figures we guessed he was around 34-38 inches not a monster as far as muskys go but would have been nice to get a pic anyway.
  10. don't buy new. I see 14' even 16' vhull boats on craigs list all the time for 1000 and under. many with a trailer and some with motors. shop around it pays
  11. I have one rod that will always have a baby 1- on it. they work so well. I caught a 40" musky on one last sunday and the hooks were fine after that still sharp and not bent at all. I have caught many bass on the same one as well so I'm not sure what peoples problems are with the hooks.
  12. I have a spot where there is a very straight edge of lilly pads that drops off to 10 feet deep and is probably 80 yards long, at one end of the pad field the bottom switches and goes to hydrilla? or something similar and comes out farther into the lake creating a kind of L shape with a weed/bottom switch and a 10 foot hole in the corner, most of the bigger fish I have caught on this lake came from that corner, the whole lilly pad edge will produce but that little corner is almost always good for a nice fish or two.
  13. put a trailer hook on those spinnerbaits and try some mega strike. have you tried dropping a senko or jig into the holes in the pads? most times I have thick pads I will throw a senko as close to the edges as possible. I hope you have a stout rod and some heavy 50-65# braid to get them out of the pads. let us know what works and don't give up.
  14. I have a 24 volt trolling motor and for a year and a half I had one 2 year old battery and one 4 year old battery. I had to buy two new ones this year though. they were different sized batteries too. one was a trojan scs225 the other was a scs150 it seemed to work fine for me.
  15. I have an 87' yamaha 30 HP and it keeps over heating if i let it idle or run it slow. there is a little red warning light that turns on and then if I try to get to speed it wont let me, it will keep kicking and bouncing when i get to half throttle. It has never had a very strong pee stream since I got it. I have replaced the impeller with no effect. any suggestions? the weird thing is I can drive full throttle all day with no problems. I assume this Is because the impeller is moving faster and pushing a little bit more water there for cooling the engine enough.
  16. I finally got all the plastics sorted and put in the plano boxes. I really hope they don't warp but if they do ill just have to find another way. I really like how easy it is to find stuff like this I was so sick of sorting through bags. here are a few pics if anyone is interested. and does anybody know what the bottom bait is, I got in in a mixed pack that I got from a friend.
  17. out of 12 shimano's I have NEVER had a problem-EVER- my oldest is 6 years old and still runs like a champ I would say you got a lemon and should avoid boycotting a well known and liked company because of a bad reel.
  18. I am just wondering what everybody does to store their plastics. just this afternoon I took all my plastics and put them in plano boxes man did that give me some room and make it easier to find everything. the sad thing is I have alot less than I thought I did. so the bait monkey and I are going on a date. ;D
  19. I watched a guy back down and wonder why his boat wasn't floating, he walked into the water and realized he hadn't undone the strap holding the boat down so he bent down to loosen the strap and when he did the boat shot up and smashed him in the chin. u could have heard the swearing for miles he had blood all over his face but u have to give him credit he still went fishing
  20. reminds me of a couple years back we were fishing 3 guys out of a 16' boat and the guy in the front hauls off for a long distance cast with a 3/4 oz daredevil and snags the guy in the middle seat right in the forearm man you should have heard the swearing I thought they were gonna come to blows. we laugh about it now.
  21. I always bring my bow so i can try to thin the carp population.
  22. I once had a green heron land and pick up my frog, he picked it up gave it quick shake and dropped it. it was pretty sweet to watch.
  23. I have a bunch of rapala and storm cranks with the sure set hooks and I am not sure I like them. It seems like they get hung up on the other hooks more often than my other cranks. any thoughts? i would hate to replace them there is nothing worse than making a great cast and having the lure messed up because of the hooks.
  24. this actually happened when I worked at gander mountain. a guy comes in madder than hell because we gave him garbage line. he says it gets all twisted up and he cant cast for any distance. we asked him how he was doing it and after about 5 minutes we had him bring his reel in and show up how he was casting. what he did I will remember forever, he would get the lure swinging back and forth and once he got up some speed he would crank the handle backwards to let out the line. it was so hard not to start laughing. I showed him how the bail works and all he could say was ooohhh.
