  1. well just got back from gander. I picked up the 7'2 med xt fast drop shot rod. now the question is which reel to get. hmmmm the bait monkey has me by the short hairs ;D
  2. pretty slow which ever way makes the most noise. stop it every now and then
  3. Im not sure thats the best thing. Its slow fishing and might lose interest. if you do it right it is great. I took my son icefishing this winter and had a blast. he is 2 1/2 we brought his magnadoodle and some hot chocolate, cookies and caught a bunch of sunnies. I let him decide which ones to keep or throw back and he was so happy to show mom when we got home. I would set the hook and he would crank them in. keep the trips short is the key and dont try to fish for yourself. make it all about the kid.
  4. 7' med-hvy moderate st. croix avid. love it!
  5. I am affected, I have spent the last 5 days trying to figure out which one to get. i was on ebay, craigs list, and several other sites until 1 am last night trying to find a deal on one. I will probably go buy one today because it is killing me. I got the fever and the only prescription is more carrot stick.
  6. What did the chip cost? I just need a GPS for fishing and marking way points and to take on a trip with my wife too. I bought the lake master chip. the one for MN is $100 and in my opinion is alot better than the navionics chip. I don't think they make one for every state so you will have to check if they have one for you.
  7. h20c for sure I have the lake master chip in mine and it gives me all the roads in MN as well as depth contours of most of the more popular lakes in MN. when in the highway i can look up exits and what is there, mcdonalds, rest stop, comfort in what ever is listed on the exit sign. awesome, awesome unit
  8. I would say the vast majority of people would never notice the difference.
  9. i fish docks quite a bit and haven't had an issue. I always feel like a complete butt when I accidently snag on their dock. I will do everything possible to get my hook off. I know I would be ticked if my kids went running out onto the dock and got a hook stuck in their foot.
  10. I am reading so much about people catching bass right now and am wondering what are your seasons? for us here in MN our season is from 5/23/09 until 02/28/10. and one thing I have always wondered about is, can you fish for bass before the start of the "season" as long as you don't keep any? it's killing me reading about people catching fish while there is still ice on the lakes up here. and just knowing I have to wait until may 23erd is worse.
  11. love the split shot setup i use it all the time the other is to use the weighted swim bait hooks that works well too
  12. warmer side or windy side if they are on the same side then you should have a good time.
  13. one thing that has actually helped me with my fishing is playing with my cat. when it was a kitten it would attack anything as it got older it got more selective. i had to drag stuff really slow untill it was just out of sight before it would attack it. I applied that to fishing and for me it actually made a difference. if i just drag something really slow the cat would just follow then get bored. if i would twitch, shake then bolt and stop the cat would attack. same with big bass. they see food, follow, grow bored or find something wrong and abort. if you fish slow but add a bunch of random and exciting action you will get bit, at least it seems to work for me.
  14. either call rapala or try to return it to where you bought it.
  15. lots on utube if you want to sift through all the garbage. it can take a while to find what you actually want
  16. fish by itself if you want to spice it up a bit put some mega strike or other scent on it
  17. a white picassa spinnerbait. took it out caught a bunch of fish right away then promptly lost it. i bought another caught 1 fish and lost it. bought another 2end cast into a tree, lost it. bought another i think it lasted 2 days before i lost that one i never bought another. I was fairly new to fishing and realize my line was bad but man at $4 a piece that got expensive quick.
  18. I would think that air would leak out but scent is a great idea.
  19. megastrike works awesome for muskies. i fished a lake for 8 years never caught a muskie started using megastrike caught 13 that year and at least 10 per year since. all muskie were caught while bass fishing. caught on senkos, cranks you name it.
  20. probably a wacky rigged senko fished slow along prime structure. or a drop shot rig.
  21. anybody wade anymore. i used to walk out to about chest deep and fish. i did pretty good that way too. it let me get to the spots you couldn't get too from shore because of brush, trees etc.
  22. i am certainly not great but I can flip into a minnow bucket from about 15 feet fairly consistantly. when i worked at gander my buddies and I used to play horse to see who had to vacuum the dept.
  23. I usually keep the fish that around 1-1.5 lbs. I think they taste better than the larger ones. I find the bigger 3 lbs to be mushy especially when the water gets warmer. I will usually only keep bass if they are likely to die any way then I will try to catch 2 more smaller ones. I think sunnies taste better though i have started bringing an ultra light with me now. I will usually use my knife and stab them in the head that will usually make short work of them. a bit messy though
  24. I want stump fields and grass not this slimy millfoil garbage
