  1. sub wart is one of my favorite cranks. I also throw a lot of baby ones and I just picked up a few of the manns wake and baby wakes. I find the best time is when the lilly pads are just below the surface for one and another is when you are in shallow 3-5 feet of water fishing around trees. you can crank right over the top of the tree and bump into it where ever you can. If you vary your retrive, crank, twitch, pause, crank, pause, crank fast, twitch change direction as much as your rod will allow that also seems to work great for me.
  2. let it fall. most of the time.
  3. I do everything i can think of to save a plastic bait. I will rig is normally after it gets beat up I will turn it around ( I have even done this with flukes) I will then wacky rig it. then I will cut of the ends if it isn't too hammered.
  4. 14# suffix braid
  5. I recently bought one and wonder what people have used in that little weight port to balance the rod. and also what have you used to balance other rods as well. I like longer rods 7' usually and would like to try balancing them. Thanks
  6. there is tons of info on this up in the articles section here is just one of the many that will help you. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/worm-fishing.html
  7. I know you only wanted info on the rods mentioned but for $20 more you could get a st. croix avid. if you watch ebay i bet you can find one for $120
  8. I also use a cheaper unit, an eagle fishmark 320. I have found tons of spots with mine. just last weekend I found a brush pile in 38' of water. will it hold bass, probably not but should be a sweet crappie hole this winter. thanks to gps I'll be able to find it again right away. I cant imagine fishing with out it. another sweet spot Is in about 10' of water. there is about a 25' wide strip of bare bottom going through some thick coon tail. I never would have found it with out the sonar.
  9. how do you even get a 5 lb bass out of lilly pads with fly gear.
  10. that is the question. I sent the MN DNR that question a couple weeks ago, so far no response. how do they know what my intent is? maybe I am a complete idiot and I think that 10" texas rigged worms catch crappies. how do you prove intent unless I keep a bass?
  11. usually no I dont drink and fish. at my buddies cabin all bets are off! we will usually troll for pike and bs and have a few once we start getting buzzed up we usually anchor and drink/fish until 1-2AM then it is a very short ride to the cabin, very small lake only 2 other cabins on it.
  12. I use a couple. 6'6 med-hvy avid shimano sahara spooled with 14# suffix braid for skipping docks 6'9 kistler LTX med-hvy with shimano symetre spooled with 14# suffix braid also for docks. I like to have a couple different setups ready if one doesn't work i'll try the other 7' med fast avid for drop shot, shakey head or tubes.
  13. keep your bait low, cast side arm and really try to whip it back there. senko's skip really well. and if you use a really thin line you will be able to skip it further. i use 10-14# suffix braid.
  14. 7' st. croix avid med-hvy moderate crank bait rod with a shimano curado 5:2-1 gear ratio. spooled with 10# suffix braid, I know I know but it works great for me!
  15. lots to think on thanks guys.
  16. so if i get this right when looking at a drop shot rod you are looking for a longer rod, with a soft tip so when you work the bait the weight doesn't come off the bottom but the worm or whatever moves a lot. you want high sensitivity, and you a decent back bone so you can get a good hook set. I think i may return the one I bought and step up to the carrot stick gold 7' med mod fast. it seemed to meet the criteria and I fell in love with it at the store. agree disagree?
  17. just use braid. dont set the hook so hard and use a leader in clear water. instead of buying stretchy line buy softer rods and save your self a lot of hassle.
  18. you cant break them but you get more sensitivity out of a 2X4
  19. went to cabelas last night and played with a 7' med mod fast carrot stick gold and I really liked it. it had a softer tip which i liked. what do you think anyone else fished that rod for drop shotting
  20. how did he verify this, was a guiness rep watching him? cause I caught 33000 fish last season all over 10 lbs. :
  21. I just bought a 7'2 medium xtra fast carrot stick drop shot rod and am wondering if it will work. this rod seems stiff but as i said I am new to the drop shot thing.I have never fished drop shot before but it is my goal this season. so what makes a good shot rod, should I return this, any other recomendations. thanks
  22. I have always tried to use natural looking colors/patterns in clear water I will have to give the clear cranks a try.
  23. By Gander, do you mean Gander Mountain? I didn't know they carried carrot stix. I just checked online and they don't have them listed. I might have to drive down to my local Gander Mountain and check it out. I bought it at the eden prarie store here in MN. I checked with 2 other gander stores and they dont plan on getting them in.
