loose the rattle trap, all I ever catch is pike on those. try some senkos, or a jerk bait like the x rap I have been killing them on those this year.

haa that reminds of a time when i was 20 or so. I was really hung over like i should have stayed home but someone was waiting for me and it was my boat so I had to go. we were into the bass pretty good and i had been lipping most all of them when i reachd down and lipped about a 14" pike. sad thing is i didn't even realize untill i got it half way out thats how slow my reaction time was.

I went out saturday for the first time this year. the weather was cold 48 degrees in the morning, 10 mph north west winds over cast spittin rain here and there. water temp was 58-60 so I figured fish aught to start spawning pretty quick, I started out throwing a manns baby -1 and not even a bite after 20 mins. since i hadn't seen any beds I backed off and started fishing 4-6 feet with a rapala dt 4 and nothing for 20 mins. starting to get discouraged I starting thinking about posting on the site to see what I was doing wrong as I thought about possible responses to my "post" I figured people would tell me to use a jerk bait. now I have never done well on a jerk bait but thought i would give it a try. I tied on a rapala x rap, yellow and on my 3rd cast I caught a little dink. cool not getting skunked fished a bit more with a couple small ones. started thinking about my next post, best way to fish a jerk bait, I thought of possible responses and backed off a bit more to 10-12 ft and then it happened. I marked a bunch of fish sitting 5 ft deep over a 12 ft hole about 30 yards from the weed edge. I thought I would give it a try and caught 15 bass between 2 and 4 lbs in like 30 minutes. but then tragedy strikes and I set into something that felt really solid, I got two really good tugs then my line goes limp, It took my ONLY x rap. I was using 20# braid and I guess probably a pike or musky as there are a lot of them in this lake. but after I lost that x rap I couldn't buy a bite. tried a yellow husky jerk and a couple others with nothing. so I am off to the store to pick up 10 or so x raps ;D. the whole point of this is to thank every one for their input through out my time here. if it wasn't for this site i never would have tried something new. and best of all I now have another technique in my arsenal. thank you every one keep it up.

I think he was referencing the fish size and effect on the organs when removed from the water and comparing it to bass. every one just chill.

I would say he was interfering. after 5 mins I would have asked him to move, if he wouldn't he would be swimming after his little raft. I have no patience for people intentionally making people wait on them.

on a funny note, I was at cabelas with him looking at rods, when I grab a rod I will put the tip on the floor to kind of get a feel for it, I was looking for an ugly stick for him when i gave him one he looked at it and put the tip on the floor like he knew what he was doing got a good laugh out of the salesman behind the counter. funny what they will pick up.

my son just turned 3 on the 11th i took him ice fishing this last winter and had a blast. I would set the hook and give him the rod and he would take off running, the sunnies would come flying out of the hole. this summer I am thinking of a cane pole that way we don't have to mess with a reel. most of those cheap spiderman reels suck so bad I can hardly use them. why mess with tangles.

thanks guys the motor is overheating. i will double check the impellar and make sure it is in right. I put it in the same way the old one was maybe they had it bacwards when I bought it.

I have a 30 hp 87' yamaha outboard that won't pee right. I replaced the impellar last year and nothing changed. if I idle it doesn't pee at all but if i run it will pee but very week. any ideas? someone once mentioned the thermostat? I would like to fix it myself I have some ability but not much. thanks

i have fished them a bit. I had a hit once under a dock. they have yet to catch a fish for me. but I don't fish tubes much so I am sure it's just me.

just bought a gold, haven't been able to fish it yet but i am in the garage every other day playing with it and casting in the parking lot. dont you just love the people who drive by and ask "catching anything" like it is the funniest thing ever.

over here in minneapolis i have seen water temps of up to 85 in the shallows. I use alot of shallow cranks, baby -1, sub warts, and rapala dt 4's also for plastics lizards, senko's, and 6-8" worms. most fishing is between 1 and 10 feet until about august but that's just me and i am far from pro.

they work when just about anything else will work better.

look for your weed edges or structure in 6-12 feet of water. when it gets really warm go to the deeper points. you gotta get off the shore a bit. I figured that one out 5-6 years ago. good luck keep us updated on your progress.

I usually try to get on the water and fishing by 4:30 AM. around here there is so much pressure and so much boat traffic that I feel like I have better chances if i am the first on a spot that day. and as a bonus I can fish for 6 hours and still be home by 11. that leaves me the whole day to spend with the family. and if my son wants to I will take him out for bluegill in the evening.
