  1. what do you guys think about in the weeds. the spot removers seem to get so many weeds caught between the line and the top of the jig. I have pretty much been limiting myself to using them on the outside weed edges where the weeds aren't so bad.
  2. I have caught a few on the shakey heads but with no consistency. I have been using spot removers mostly. what are some ideas to help me improve and I am also looking for suggestions on good shakey worms too. thanks.
  3. just a thought, I find my self doing this all the time. I think I am a victim of too much information. I read constantly, I watch videos I play with my tackle obsessivly so. when I get out to fish I have so many ideas and things to try that I switch lures, spots, speeds and I finally have to make my self take a breath, stop fishing and just look around and come up with a solid game plan.
  4. usually persistance is a good thing but I think in this case you should have moved after an hour or two. just my .02
  5. I have always used gammies and have been looking at switching. I keep bending the hook point out so that it does not allow for skin hooking the baits. I have also had problems with the point rolling over. i use braid between 20 and 40 lbs. and typically avoid the really heavy stuff. I need a heavy rod. I suppose I will go buy some owner hooks and see how that goes.
  6. don't be afraid to get wet. when I was shore bound I would go to a spot fish from the bank for 20 casts or so then hop in-Quietly-and work the spots that you cant get to from shore because of trees, bushes ect. you need to move slowly always working the area you intend to walk through so you don't spook the fish. I would almost always be chest deep trying to get to a tree in the water or be to be able to cast to that outside weed edge. what ever it takes. watch craigs list and get your self a small cheap boat, canoe or kayak, you don't need a $30,000 bass boat to catch them.

    X-Rap

strange I have three pointers and none of them suspend very well compared to the x raps. this is the first year I have been into x raps and they have saved my day several times. I do fish them pretty aggresivly and I typically use the xr 10's I just bought an x rap shad going to try it out tonight.
  8. never for fishing and probably 10 times duck hunting.
  9. Any time the fish get lock jaw around here I switch to an x-rap xr10 usually silver, you may want a brighter color in the stained water, and power jerk the thing. i let the think stop for about a half a second then snap the rod down really aggresivly. I have had days that go from 3 hours of fishing plastics with nothing to show then switch to the x rap and end up making it a 15 fish day. your foreams will BURN after 20 mins of this but it works for me.
  10. I am afraid that if i kiss one I will want to mount it.
  11. six big plano boxes loaded with hooks/weights, topwater, jigs, shallow cranks, deep cranks, jerk baits/rattle traps. 4 large plano boxes loaded with worms, creature baits, more worms, lizards 5 medium plano boxes with senkos, flukes, trick worms, jig trailers, tubes. I have a box full of ziplock bags filled with worms, that I just don't like much all the weird colors like semi clear/blue.
  12. go find a bunch of neighborhood kids and offer 5 bucks to who ever finds it.
  13. i got my brother on this. he caught a bass with a big belly and called it an easy 4 i weighed it and it was 3.3 next day he caught one "has to be 5" he says i weigh it, 3.6 ill give him credit though he doesnt bass fish much.
  14. don't make it harder than it needs to be. ask who ever is driving the boat to stay close to the weed line but not on it, figure out how deep it is grab a lure that will work, cast behind the boat and just let line out as you go until you are a good distance from the boat. good luck. I catch bass all the time doing this when I go from spot to spot on my little lake.
  15. I fish visible structure first then as I get a feel for the lake I start watching other fisherman and trying to put together a basic mental image of the bottom composition. obviously paying attention to water temp and clarity to determine lure choices. And it doesn't hurt to actually talk to a few people at the launch to see what is going on.
  16. hhhmmmmm whiskey in the boat wonder if that had anything to do with the reason he got a hook in the hand?
  17. confidence is lost, fishing sucked gonna try again tomorrow I am thinking of downsizing maybe finally try drop shot and shakey head. or if that doesn't work I am going for reaction, spinnerbait, lipless crank see what happens.
  18. well this happened on tuesday, I talked to my buddy yesterday he said it was tough but they won a small club tournament with 17 lbs and were 4 lbs ahead of second place on the same lake. he is a better fisherman than me though. I am going to try again tonight for 2 1/2 hours will post back.
  19. I did, I tried 5 or 6 different poppers and spooks. I tried craw tubes, senko's, spinnerbaits, shallow and deep crankbaits, lizard pretty much all my confidence stuff. the one I caught was on an x-rap. I fished between 12 and 1 foot deep. and my buddy in the boat was trying a bunch of different stuff too. I know this lake really well I have been fishing it for about 10 years and have been doing pretty well. so if not the mayflies what do you think it was.
  20. I bought a carrot sick gold and I think my avids have more sensitivty BUT i would rather fish my carrot stick because it feels so good in my hand.
  21. I went out for about 3 hours last night. boy was it slow. I caught 1 bass after around 2 hours that was it. I am trying to blame it on the mayfly hatch does that make sense. they were flying around all over the place i suppose the fish gorged themselves and wouldn't bite. I couldn't even buy a reaction strike. so do you think the hatch is the reason or something else.
  22. is pike season open there is nothing wrong with throwing crankbaits for pike and accidently catching bass
  23. curado hands down. I know your not interested in shimanos though I am not quite sure why anyone would not want the best
  24. I may have to give it a try. I'll try anything once, well almost anything.
  25. I dont set the hook too hard I have been using nothing but braid for a couple years now and have adapted, I use kind of a short, sharp snap of the rod that has always worked fine. I cant stand the stretch and lack of sensitivity with mono. maybe the line is just old. I guess I am not sure on the poundage I will have to look into that. I like to use a smaller line weight because I feel it gives me an increased casting distance.
