  1. I use a 6.2:1 and would actually like a bit faster. I find I have to really crank to get the bait up on top. I would like the additional speed to get it up faster. it is easier to slow down than speed up.
  2. I have never actually lost anything but I once had a buddy new to fishing toss a g-loomis imx with a shimano curado in the lake as he was casting the thing actually floated long enough for me to get the boat over to it. a couple weeks ago I was a bit hung over in the morning and my brain was pretty slow, I had just casted and was reaching for the trolling motor when my rod jumped out of my hand right into the lake, as I reached for it the rod jerked again just out of my reach I hit the TM and was able to grab the rod and when I went to set the hook there was nothing there.
  3. nice fish, do you use a scale or are you guessing
  4. do not sell the combo! my first baitcaster aggrivated the crap out of me i finally put it away for a couple weeks and then gave it a go and some how it clicked and i figured out how it works. i now prefer them to spinning reels. how do you have the brakes in the citica set up, if you are getting backlashes then add more brakes if that doesn't work tighten the tension knob a bit. and also dont try to cast really hard. my brother always does that. he swings for the fences and backlashes. hope that helps.
  5. every rod brand is a little different. for me my st. croix avids have taken everything i have dished out. my oldest is 7 years old. for $170 i would say that is a fair price range to balance sensitivity and longevity.
  6. I catch a few muskies while out cranking or running topwater. I have caught probably 10 this season so far here is one I caught last weekend on a rapala x walk13. it went 38" here with me not holding out to the camera. ;D
  7. are you hooking your lure on an eyelet? when you do is there a lot of bend in the rod while you store it? sounds to me like like there is something off to have that bad of luck. and remember a more expensive rod doesn't mean it will be unbreakable. quite the opposite actually, the better a rod the more sensitive and light weight it becomes which usually translates into a more brittle rod.
  8. they were saying the other day how this was the coldest summer in 50 years for MN. so much for global warming.
  9. i usually try to be on the water around 3 and depending on the moon and weather it is clear skies or not we have had some great times.
  10. I have been using lighter braid this season and I dont like it. I have lost more lures and fish while using anything less than 30 lb. I have been using suffix and power pro by the way.
  11. it probably happened at the store and then you got it and it finally broke. when I worked at gander Mountain my manager always put a zip tie through the front guide then hung them on a peg in the back room he used to put 15-20 rods on a peg this way and when people walked by they would bump into them and I have even seen people trying to dig through them while on the peg, pushing them around and twisting the whole bundle. a lot of stress on the tips of those rods. none ever broke but I always wondered. bring it back i'm sure they will take care of you.
  12. I have been having a great season so far. I have been doing most of my fishing in the minnetonka/eden prairie area
  13. are you flipping the bail over by hand or are you cranking the handle? It is better to flip the bail over manually less stress on the bail spring and less line twist.
  14. X-raps x walk 13 craw tubes spinner baits (thanks Glenn) some on shaky head, spot remover jig with a manns jelly worm.
  15. why buy a rod made in america over one made somewhere else? maybe to support america! if more people payed attention to this our country wouldn't outsource everything.
  16. with out more info water temp lake size (farm pond or 1000 acre lake) I would say being over cast and low water clarity I would look for areas 6-8 feet deep weedy and throw spinnerbaits/buzzbaits or cranks. with over cast and dirty water the fish don't need cover such as lilly pads or docks, like they would usually. and that deep weed edge is always worth some time.
  17. thats awesome! I love watching kids fish they get so excited it lets me enjoy myself a bit more and not be so serious too.
  18. it would be easier to tell if you weren't trying to hold it up at arms length. you need to buy a scale or at least a yard stick. I don't see any water anywhere you keep it?
  19. Take your wife fishing with you.
  20. they say a boat owners two happiest days are the day he buys the boat and the day he sells it.
  21. what I have found is a possible brush pile/clump of stuff in 38 feet of water. I assume people sunk some stuff during ice fishing for crappie. I have never fished deeper than 18 feet or so and never had much luck deeper than 10 feet so I am not sure how to approach this. the lake has a depth clarity of around 5 feet. water temp as of tuesday was 82 degrees on average. this is a fairly small lake around 177 acres the spot is located in no mans land there is no other structure anywhere for a long way, and the bottom appears to be hard and fairly flat. i graphed the spot several times and I have determined it is pretty small I have a hard time finding it and staying on it. it comes up off the bottom 5 to 8 feet or so. and I would say it is probably a couple christmas trees. would you fish it? how would you fish it?
  22. I have a 3 year old son who loves to fish. I have been talking to him about where the fish like to be and I taught him to pick the stinkiest lures I have. so when we go fishing I ask him where he wants to go and he will point to a spot and we will go there then he picks a lure. then I start fishing while he plays with a spray bottle or throwing my anchor rope into the water trying to catch floating weeds. when I catch a fish I get all excited and let him reel it in and snap a few pics. we went out tuesday and we caught probably 10 fish in 3 hours and he was good the whole time until we had to leave at 9 pm. here is a pic of the 3 1/2 lber or so we caught tuesday. looks like a happy kid huh.
  23. that was a good story I laughed several times especially with the dremel tool and the clamps, sounds like something I would do, not sure thats a good thing.
  24. sorry you have to scroll the pic over you can see the truck backed up and pretty much missing the ramp.
  25. sounds easy thanks
