  1. maybe not quite desperate but I caught myself driving home from cabelas with a lake fork craw tube in my hand and I couldn't stop smelling it just because it reminded me of fishing. people are still driving on the lakes around here so it will be a while.
  2. lake minnetonka is over rated. it gets so much pressure both by fisherman and recreational boaters not to mention the launch traffic. you can go to just about any lake and do great on the bass. do not overlook the smaller lakes.
  3. when we go to my buddies cabin we cross the mississippi, every time we do we throw a handfull of pennies into it as we go over the bridge, if we miss the river or forget the fishing is really slow.
  4. seems obvious get which ever you would use more probably the rain coat.
  5. I took my wife a few times and every time she says it is fun and when I ask her to go again she says no? oh well my son likes fishing so far and my daughter is too young but maybe next year. my wife says her biggest issue is no bathroom. when we used to go we only had a canoe and sure enough as soon as we get to the spot she has to pee and absolutly will not go in the woods. i have a motor now but she still doesn't want to go.
  6. I like it as a topwater bait. I will rig weightless with a 4/0 ewg gammy hook. I keep the rod high and get it almost skipping across the water. it looks just like a shad running from a predator.
  7. well mine is actually a musky. I had been fishing for maybe 20 minutes there was a slight chop on the water and it was cloudy about 50 degrees. i was throwing a big inline buzzbait and had actually already had 1 boil right near the boat. well I cast out and almost instantly i see this huge back come out of the water following my buzzbait. after what seemed like a long follow probably only 5 feet the musky lunged at it i felt a little pressure and tried to set the hook but couldn't feel anything after trying to reel as fast as I could to catch up to this fish it jumps about 20 feet from the boat, fully out of the water it looked like a painting or something this huge fish with my bait hanging out of its mouth once it hit the water i still couldn't catch up to this fish. I never saw or felt it again. the thing was running right at the boat the whole time. needless to say I use a faster gear ratio reel now. just a guess but I bet that musky was 50"
  8. for me a baitcasting reel is just more comfortable to fish with. I really only use spinning for finesse or skipping senko's or tubes under docks. everyone is different.
  9. look up duluth pack they are a bit pricey but they are tuff as nails. if you plan to make this a yearly trip it is well worth it.
  10. I always go early june. I am going in on the 10th this year. the mosquitoes can be bad but I find that it is way worse in july. the black flies are the worst though. get your self some ultrathon bug spray. as for lures. I use alot of senkos, tubes, craw tubes are killer, x rap xr-10's, manns baby -1's, spinnerbaits and get a bunch of top water stuff the fish up there aren't shy so the topwater bite can be amazing.
  11. I have a couple of the old green curado 200b and 200b5's and I would like to get them all cleaned up but cant find my paper work with the schematic can anybody help with a link or something. btw what happened to the shimano forum?
  12. understanding that just because i want to fish a certain way doesn't mean I should. example. I love to fish topwater and i find myself fishing topwater and not catching anything while my buddy will be hammering them on say spinnerbaits.
  13. I would really like to get back into plastics specifically drop shot, shaky head and tubes. last year I got into cranks and jerkbaits and I really suffered when I went back to plastics i guess i lost my feel for it. I would like to force myself to try different spots on my lake other than just going to my same old spots. I drive past a lot of spots I see others fish all the time. I would like to set a new pb, so i need a fish 5.9lbs or better, here in MN the record is only 8.15 so a 6lber would be great for me!
  14. its really not that bad the weather here is around 6 degrees and I wore my shorts and a coat to the store to get some milk. i did get some looks though. ;D in a way I am glad for the break from fishing, it insures I dont get burnt out and it gives me a couple months to accumulate new tackle and get all my stuff taken care of.
  15. not cheating but really boring.
  16. i replaced the impellar is there more i can do. the motor "pee's" but its not a very strong stream. the water isn't hot coming out.
  17. I have an 87' 30 horse yamaha that has been giving me problems. the warning light turns on when ever i run at half throttle or less. if I run wide open it runs great, smooth and strong but as soon as I slow down or let it warm up that light turns on. I had a friend say it may not be getting oil any thoughts on this. I saw in another post people saying to bypass the oil injection and premix is this a good idea and what would the mixture be. thanks
  18. when I worked at gander mountain i had a guy come in complaining that we spooled his reel wrong. we respooled it for him and he came back an hour later red faced and swearing. we asked him to show us how he was casting, so he grabbed his rod made like he was going to cast then he grabs the reel handle and gets it spinning backwards. he had no idea how to work the bail and the switch was on for the handle to go both directions. needless to say it made a big mess. i untangled it for him showed him the bail and a bunch of stuff about his reel. he kept saying he felt like an idiot for being so mad but oh well. I had another guy come in and buy an ugly stick combo like you would use for catfish but he insisted I spool it with 10# fire line that reel would easily hold 1000 yards and at 10 cents a yard I told him that he didn't need that much but he would not take advice from a then 22 year old kid. his logic was that with that many yards of line he wouldn't have to respool every time he breaks off. I guess the customer is always right.
  19. I am going with one of 3 here, lake minnetonka, lake of the woods, or lake vermillion.
  20. get a float tube, canoe or a crappy cheap john boat. for under $100 you can get off the shore and get to where the fish are. craigs list is your friend
  21. I had a 35" or so musky swim into my line, I am not kidding I have a witness! this fish was swimming with its head out of the water and right into my line. once it did the fish went nuts and I could feel my line wrapping around the fish. I started reeling in and I actually got the fish next to the boat and I could see my 3/0 gammie, with fluke still attached, hooked into that second set of fins on the bottom. I didn't get the fish in the boat but it actually made 2 good runs before the hook popped off.
  22. I see you are from MN just happened upon this while looking for a little jon for myself in case you haven't already seen this one. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/boa/1358447600.html
  23. if they are hitting I won't use it. if I cant get a bite I will slather on the megastrike and I will usually pick up a few. now with muskies I think it makes a huge difference here is why I think that. for 6 years I fished my lake knowing it had muskies but I had never caught one. I found mega strike and started using it. that year I picked up 13 muskies with the biggest at 40 inches on a bandit 100 of all things. my thought is that muskies often follow a bait before committing and when that mega strike is leaving a scent trail I am certain that is what is getting them to bite. it has been a couple years since I have been using megastrike and I have so far caught 32 muskies. and coincidentally my PB had mega strike on it as well.
  24. well the american male has been getting more and more feminized I guess the fish are following suit. fish are people too.
