  1. either a medium with a sensitive, fast tip or a med hvy with an extra fast tip.. I personally like a 6'8 Med-Hvy Extra fast tip on a bait caster. On a spinner I like a 6'8-6'10 med-light or med with a x-fast tip. Check out the St Croix new Avid-x. I've got two of em, I really like em..
  2. It works wonders in my opinion.
  3. Suspended Fish in deeper water relating to timber most likely, good drop offs, rocky banks (because the rock absorbs the sunlight and warms the water) bass can be caught in the shallows behind an isolated stump or something, on a crank bait banging the rock, or a jig, drop shot or texas rigged worm.. Good luck
  4. If your in the Atlanta area ( I live here) your two options for bassin' right now are Lanier (NE of Atlanta) or Allatoona (NW of ATL). Both have mostly spotted bass in them, not largemouth or smallmouth as you'd see in Indiana (I'm from Michigan and my uncle runs a charter service on Lake Michigan out of St. Joseph's). The thing here is that the weather can be 55 and sunny like it was today, or it can be 30 rainy, and windy the next. I have a boat in Lanier at a Marina and took it out today.. Got some on a square bill off rocks.. but the lake is 38,000 acres and you'd really have to map it out to figure out where to launch. PM me and i'll tell you some places to put in, I fish Lanier 3-5 times a week unless its absolutely pouring.
  5. Stradic CI4+ all the way. By the way it does have x ship. I have a Stradic ci4+ 2500FA and it says x ship and line propulsion system on it. That reel makes your rod feel like a feather.
  6. I love Shimano and have the Ci4+'s for use, but for a medium light fast action baitcaster I have the new abu Garcia revo SX and that thing casts a country mile with Seaguar tatsu.
  7. I've been spy baiting for about a year and a half and I would recommend 7-8 lb Sunline Finnesse or SL Sniper FC. However I don't and haven't had any problems throwing it on a spinning rod with braid and a long flouro leader. Experiment... Just use the countdown method so you don't get hung up, and you want a sometimes slow and steady retrieve or sometimes they like some action on it too.
  8. I use the peak vise, which you can interchange the clamps for different hook sizes, this one is great with the option to put a mouth for big hooks and a mouth for fly tying (which I love to do)
  9. I LOVE the Sunline products, the Sniper FC, Reaction FC(for cranks, jerks, reaction bites) and I really love the Sunline shooter, although that's the most expensive Sunline product. I just tried the Seaguar Tatsu and am in love with the way that stuff flys off my baitcasters. For the money I'd go for the Seaguar Invis-x or the Trilene 100% Flourocarbon or if I was really short on cash I'd get the vanish I guess. Invis-x is the best bang for your buck IMO. Someone at the local tackle shop told me that to keep his line costs down, he only puts 100 yards of line on his baitcasters at a time. That way you get more out of the spool, but I like to fill mine up anyways in case of break offs or others.
  10. I have a curado 201 and 2 cronarch Ci4+ (a 151 and a 151hg). I think that cronarch is one of the best reels on the market except the Metannium, but that's big bucks. For some reason I always feel lefty.... Just a preference but I'd definitely go to the cronarch ci4+. It's a sweet, light reel. Last year I took my dad out on a guided trip with a local tourney pro who had the original cronarch's. I asked him how he liked the reel and he said he had a dislike for them, but loved the new ci4+'s. They are very palm able and have a great weight to them. If I had the $ I'd probably get a core MG...
  11. I use the pitzen knot(just like the san Diego jam) for everything including braid. I like the Palomar as well for drop shots. I also use the Albright special for attaching flouro to braid...
  12. Sunline's Sniper FC would be my choice. But I belive you need one set up with mono(top water), flouro(stealth, finesse, etc) and then braid did your jigging baitcasters and some of your spinning gear.
  13. I really like the Seaguar Kanzen. I use 15-20 lb on some of my spinning set ups and 30-50 lb on my baitcasters.
  14. I've got two Lowrance HDS Gen 2 Touches. It's funny yall mention the drop shot, I have a little honey hole that I'd been catching em left and right on top water plugs in the late summer/fall. I went there yesterday with the intent of throwing the tackle box at em.... First thing I thought of was a drop shot with a roboworm (Aaron's magic) or a zoom drop morning dawn, both dark, lifelike worm looking like baits, I was with a buddy that was throwing a grub, I caught two in ten minutes on the drop shot.... I knew they were suspended deep on the rocks and submerged trees. My friend had never tried that technique so I spent the rest of the afternoon(high was in the 40's) teaching it to him. Lanier is a very drop shot lake, summer and winter you can catch em in 30-40 feet of water on the shot. The only difference I made was using a "Lindy" slip sinker(one of those real skinny sinkers) and it helped a lot with with hang ups. Since I know drop shotting will work I'm going out tomorrow for a limit on the drop shot and shakes head.. Thanks ya'll, as Ryan hadn't mentioned anything about hitting em deep with the DS. All the report said that slow rolling small spinner baits over brush piles and throwing jigging spoons. Thanks for the help. Now I just gotta get some stripers!!
  15. Hello I've been fishing for about two years, with the first year fishing rivers for trout, but once I got a bass on a fly line, I had to get in to real bassin. Anyways, I am fishing Lanier all the time as I have a slip there for my boat. I fish about 4 times a week. Recently I've been doing terrible, catching only one medium sized spotted bass(Lanier is full of spots, barely any LM). I caught him in about 4-5 feet of water behind a huge rocky point. My question to ya'll is what can I do to up my odds in winter fishing? I've heard that the fish are more lethargic and won't chase the lure as much. I've been told that the fish are transitioning from the back of the creeks to relating to deep water lumber and other places. My question is what whould you do to put more fish in the boat? What tactics would ya'll use on this southern 55 degree resovoir to catch some more fish more frequently? I've been using spinnerbaits, jig n pigs, and some Crankbaits, as well as some suspending jerk baits, should I be throwing worms on a drop shot, shaky heads and other T rigs to get the worms down deep? Any help would be helpful. Thanks!!
