  1. Last year I couldn't get past the 6lb mark with a 6.3 being my biggest bass. 2016 started with a bang and getting a new PB on Jan 2. She weighed 7lbs 10oz. Not only did I finally break 7lbs I also caught 4 more fish bigger than my old PB in Jan alone. 3/4 oz black/blue sieberts dredge football jig with rage black/blue lobster this past Friday, feb 26, I ended up catching another PB of 8lbs 12oz. Caught on 1/2 sieberts dredge Arkie jig. Bama bug with yum craw chunk in green pumpkin purple flake. 2016 has been good to me so far, I hope I can keep the momentum going for big fish.
  2. My preferred way to fish them is with a small tungsten weight and pitched in shallow cover. Hematoma, roadkill and green pumpkin are my favorite colors
  3. Watermelon slice is an amazing color! Also check out raspberry shad. It's hard to find them in flukes but they're around. Wished zoom would make it a permanent color.
  4. Managed to fish in housen from 12-5 today. Windy, water was pretty stained. Water temp 59-60. Saw a bunch of boats working the shoreline. Was a tough day for me. I only caught one fish. But she was a beauty!!! 8lbs 12oz!! 1/2 jig with yum craw chunk
  5. Stumbled on this post. Glad to see a bunch of other musicians on this site. I've been playing guitar for many years and I should be way better than I am! Just like bass fishing it's an addictive passion. I've been through many guitars and amps but this is my current big amp set up. Funny thing is I mostly play on a fender blues deville 4x10 with pedal board.
  6. No brainier, get the imx over the gl3.
  7. I used to have the 904c fpr. It's more stout than you think. Not a light rod either. Try putting your hands on the mbr844. Plenty of power for pitchin and flippin. Accurate rod. Can use for any application. I believe it is their most functional and versatile rod. Btw, the Tatula type r looks amazing on the new imx rods.
  8. I noticed that a few months ago on tw. I ordered some. I agree it's a fantastic color. Haven't used it yet but hope to catch a hawg myself!
  9. All my roboworms smell strong. Noxious actually. Can't stand the smell of them. Very plastic/chemical like
  10. They are the older "shelter" model from smith. Wasn't even their "expensive" ones. Has the carbonic TLT lenses. Can't imagine how good the top tier glasses are
  11. Definitely try a pair of smith optics. I have Costa 580g and Maui Jim bamboo forest and my smiths are better in my opinion.
  12. My best day bass fishing happened Jan 2, 2016. Me and a buddy went fishing in a nearbt lake in a John boat. Ended up getting on the water around 1pm. We decided to use 3/4oz black and blue football jigs with matching rage craw. My First cast ended up with a 2lber and he doubled up with a 3lber. My very next cast(second case for me) I hooked into a 7lb 10oz beauty. My personal best! I didn't want to get too excited by drawing attention so we kept it quiet. Within the next 30 minutes i pull out a 6lb 14oz, 3.15, 4.01, 6.01 and a few more 2lbers. My buddy wasn't so lucky and only got a couple 2-3lbers. 3 hours into our trip I was saying that I never thought I'd be trying to cull a 4lber. 2 casts later I landed a 7.3. We fished for 4 hours. My friend got 5 fish 3lbs and under. I ended up with 11 bass. My top five weighed 31lbs 13oz. The Stars were aligned for me that afternoon. During that time I lost my lucky jig on a bad cast. I decided to take advantage of the bite so I went out the next morning with my new son in law. He never caught a bass before in his life. I gave him instructions on deep water jig fishing. My first cast I felt a slight difference as I was dragging. I pulled up my jig and it was wrapped in some braided line with my lucky jig still tied! First cast got my jig back! We fished for 30min or so without a bit and I started to get discouraged from the previous day's magic. We moved a few times before getting on fish. He caught a 3lber for his first fish. His second bass weighed 6.4. And his 3rd fish ever was 4.8. Not to be outdone I got a 7.8 and a 6.4. I also lost the largest bass of my life 10ft from the boat. My son in law is now hooked! I told him not to get used to that kind of action and that I fished for many years before landing a 6lber. I mentioned these fish in a previous post but wanted to share again of my best day bass fishing. I went back twice after that and only got 1 fish. The next time going back to that spot(10days after) we had 2 boats on the water. Another buddy caught a nice fish and paddled over tonweigh it. It weighed 7lb 4oz. We noticed it had a red round hole under the left side gill. That was my 7.3 I got 10 days earlier. The hook on the scale busted thought the bottom of gill plate on 3 of the bigger fish. No doubt in my mind that it was my fish from before. Same general area just a lil shallower. Bit a jig too!
  13. There are many combos that'll suit your jigging needs well. I will agree with the curado I, from above. Excellent reel for $130. Many options on good rods for the remaining $170. I'm personally using a loomis imx844mbr(old and current version), shimano Cumara 7'2"xtra fast mh, and a hammer 7'3"H, they are all great. The older imx mbr844 is my fav stick period.
  14. Exactly how you have it listed. Rod, reel then line.
  15. I've actually dabbled in long distance casting years ago. I still have all my gear. custom surf rods made by Ryan White(master class) competitive caster from hatters jacks. Rods Made on conoflex(1st rod company to reach 900ft) blanks. Breakaway rods and purglas from South Africa, Penn ppt pendulum etc. all my reels are Abu 5500, 6500 ctc3 reels with no level winds. Also a penn 525 mag. There are 3 basic reels used by all competitive casters. Abu 5500/6500, penn 525, and DAIWA millionaire mag model. All the reels will be set up with an additional knob for braking and Good bearings. The line is usually 8-10lb mono with shock leader being 10x the lbs vs weight of the weight. 4oz=40lb, 5oz=50lb, with just enough shock leader to wrap around the spool 4-5 times. Top rods are century, conoflex and zziplex. With reels mounted at bottom of the handle for most leverage. These guys are using basically the same equipment. It is the person and technique that makes the difference. Period. There is no arguing this. Certain casting techniques are more powerful than others and get more distance. I.e. Off the ground cast(fairly powerful) and the pendulum(most powerful and most distance) this is also proven on the field. Spinning rods don't come close the bait asters in this realm also. Though none of this has anything to do with bass fishing it has help me be a really good caster. most good bass reels will have close to the same performance. It has more to do with the man loading the rod. Each Rod performs differently for casting. Bottom line is your not casting for records or bragging rights on the lake. Cast to your intended targets and be reasonable with the distance because physics is against you(hook setting capability at distance). Sorry for the long post. Btw, If anyone is interested in learning to power cast with long rods. Look at Neil mackellows video from breakaway. He shows all the casting techniques used in competition/surf.
  16. Your 12v trolling motor should serve you and the boat well, unless you just really want to upgrade to a 24 volt system. 45lb should move your boat decently. 75lb 24v would probably be the biggest I'd go. I have an 18'6" glass triton with a 45lb. I wanted to upgrade but realized that if I needed 75+ lb to stay put in high winds it usually not fun to be out anyways as I don't like fighting that much wind and waves. As for a power pole, make sure you have enough room for the small hydraulic pump. U can power it from the cranking battery with no problems. If not the micro might me an option. Larger electronics won't be a problem either. Hope this helps.
  17. Heres a lil gator I caught on a D bomb.
  18. Ffo tackle has a 6'6" veracity mhmf action rod for $75. Don't let the moderate fast action fool you. It has plenty of power. I ordered this rod and it is perfect for top/jerk and spinnerbait. The 2 power gl2 is pretty wimpy. I have one also.
  19. Come on. Matter of fact on Jan 3, I took my son in law that has never caught a lmb. His first fish was 3.0, second fish was 6.4 followed by a 4.8. Was a magical two days for me. What makes it better was that we were fishing from a 14 ft John boat with paddles and anchor only. Kickin it old school and I have a triton bass boat in the garage.
  20. 2015 was a decent year for me. Many bass in the 5-6lb range caught on top waters to creature baits. The summer wasn't as good as I'd like it to have been. But 2016 has been superb so far. Jan 2, I got a 7.10, 7.3, 6.14, 6.1 in four hours with multiple 3-4's in the mix. Jan 3, I scored a 7.8 and a 6.4 and lost the largest bass of my life. I wish I never saw it. Still butt hurt about it.
  21. It's a saltwater Rod. Might want to do some research on it before buying.
  22. Tatula 7'1" mh extra fast is a great all around Rod. Can handle a lot of tasks. Very responsive rod too.
  23. Welcome aboard. I would get some smaller 4-7" worms, good hooks and various bullet weights. 1/4 oz spinner baits. A few square bills like the 1.5 series. Tubes, trick worms, sluggos, hard jerkbaits, finesse jigs. There are endless baits to use but these should get you plenty of bites.
  24. Maybe so. First time being on housen in a while. The usual spot I fish on the very south end by la islands has produced a 5lb or better last few trips but the numbers were fairly low for this time of year. All at first light. Wanted to see if another spot would be more productive. Man I need some new places to fish! Lol But all in due time I guess.
  25. That was caught yesterday in the evening. Right before dark.
