  1. That`s some great advice here. I think I am going to start teaching this weekend, forecast promised a hot and dry weather, so that will definitely make the whole experience better for everyone. Do you guys think it would be better to stay in shore the first time or instantly bring them to boat?
  2. I think one of the key points is helping them land a fish quite soon. I imagine if I would set everything up: choose lure, tie it, show her one of my "lucky-spots" and just let her handle the reeling part then I`m sure she would be interested. After that I would slowly leave her to pick his own lures, gear and locations. At least then she knows what she is working towards. Of course, I can´t probably go through this entire process with each of my colleagues. I agree with keeping the information simple part.
  3. I`m sure we all have some relatives or friends who are looking to start fishing when weather gets more and more warmer. So far I have about 2 colleagues and even my wife that have asked for help in terms of me helping them get started this year. I have had bit of teaching experience in past, but I`m still curios how you all guys teach newbies who ask for fishing help? Do you point them to some article that covers all the basics like this, show videos, take them fishing with you or recommend some gear and lures and let them learn at their own or what?
  4. I wonder where did you got it? Revo Premier spinning reels are quite hard to come by these days, they are discontinued. I know that this Revo has 11 bearings so it should be silky-smooth. So it`s most likely a defect, contact the Shop or Amazon and you will get it fixed.
  5. Stradic FJ would be my pick for that budget. Size 2500 to be exact. Be sure to check some reviews too: Shimano FJ, Saros
  6. I`m curios if anyone have bought one of these programs too. But, just so you would know there are other similar video instruction subscriptions available too. So the bassmaster ain´t only choice. By the looks of it I question the value these video-courses can provide. Yes, the price is cheap, but there is just so much articles, youtube videos out there from the top anglers for free and it looks like the same content is being recycled in big sites, channels over and over again. Let`s be realistic, how many times you can come up with article ideas about spring, spawn fishing, baits etc, but these sites have to publish something.
  7. No, I always laugh about these wind stories. It just looks like a lame excuse for not catching a fish that day.
  8. Actually what I have found out over the years is that very many anglers actually care about how their reel, rod and everything fits together appearance wise. They don´t seem to be obsessed about it, but take it into account when two or more rods/reels are in the same price group and don´t seem to have much difference performance wise.
  9. I admit the word can go out really fast, what initially was a little hint to a friend may result in everyone in local area finding out your spot. Be especially cautions on the internet, I can´t even remember how many times I have seen guys giving away their spots in local FB group just because they did a nice picture of the sunset, fish or whatever there.
  10. Yeah, quite a bit threads about spawn fishing and techniques/lures around it. This might be helpful too: http://best-spinningreels.com/how-not-to-screw-up-bed-fishing/
  11. You may want to look into Okuma Baitfeeder too. I know that the President Is pretty much "king" of cheaper reels, but this Okuma model is Amazon bestseller: and has good reviews. Extra baitrunner functions doesn´t hurt either.
  12. I suggest you to know with good old traditional President & Shakespeare/ Cabelas combo. Then when time passes and you are ready to move on start practicing with baitcasters OR some higher-end very light Shimano reels CI4+ or even FJ are great for that job.
  13. There was that one time 3 years ago and still to this date I`m not sure if the lure got stuck or I got a real hawk on the other side ( 20 lb+) pike most likely. The line snapped quite fast.
  14. I don`t have the exact dates written down, but I agree with scaleface. Spawn-post spawn transition has been the most successful for me. I have caught really big and full females during spawn too, so it`s definitely a great time. Only may take a bit effort to keep the males away and get only the female to attack. Late fall is the time where I go fishing most often, I don´t usually break PB, but frequently manage to pull out 2-3 two to four pounders. If I remember correctly October 17th was a great day for me the previous year.
  15. If you are looking to buy Abu garcia spinning reel then I think revo premier is one of the best. It is discontinued, but you can still buy it from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Abu-Garcia-180-Yards-Ball-Bearing-5-8/dp/B005GOU61I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1428250558&sr=8-2&keywords=abu+garcia+revo+premier) or ebay. Definitely can hang with newer light reels like ci4+. There is a review on it too: http://best-spinningreels.com/abu-garcia-revo-premier-review/
