  1. St Croix legend mlxf.
  2. If your looking for a great medium to light weight reel i just got a left handed alphas SV from japan off the auction sight for a bout two hundered bucks. Its a great little reel and reviews abound. I am partial to st croix and the avid or avid x is a great choice. Used versions can be had but i would get used rods localy unless you are getting it from a forum like this one or TT. The auction site has to many suprises on used rods in my experence. A little cheaper option is the fenwick bass and smallmouth. Both rods are great.
  3. With that depth i would be fishing a dropshot. There is also a video i watched with a guy baicaly dropshotting a swimbait. The depth your describing is way out of my comfort zone and i have little to help there.
  4. I use a creature bait and a 3/4 tungsten as well. I try and just set the weight on the pad and drag it over to the edge. The edge of the pad will not normaly support the weight and it rolls off and decends. I do this very slow and it works just fine for me. If the pads are overlapping i have to go up in weight and it does not work as well for me.
  5. I have only had it happen to me one time but i have seen another person in my boat do it twice before. Unfortunately the fish were small.
  6. Daiwa Sol. Found cheap tons of options. The zonda spool makes it a cranking beast.
  7. I have not done so well with the spro little john md series. I want them to work really bad but only had a few on one of the five i own. The 2.5 sk square bill is a zero for me as well but the 1.0 and 1.5 are good to go.
  8. They run very shallow and the one i have in gill has to be cranked a little faster than i want to have good action. It is a beautiful bait and i want to run it in some river situations before i call it good. I pull mine on 6lb flouro.
  9. i would guess your missing a spacer in the assembly. Even a contaminated drag will do better than what your describing so check out the schematic and i bet your missing a washer or part.
  10. I start with a moving bait like a little swim bait 4" or a crankbait. The bass in my area are very slow and seems lazy. If i am getting some action i will try a jerkbait and see if that does better. If not i am on a jig or plastics. I have seen very little topwater action in my area but i will almost always give it some time in the early morning or late evening just because i love the blowups.
  11. I had my boy on a push button from 2-5 and after that he was using spinning. He is almost now 8 and dont think he is ready for a bait caster.
  12. I don't let mine bring electronics. A barbie for my baby girl is OK though. All I really want from them is to disconnect. Fish or not.
  13. The best time i have had on the water was in my own yak with my dad on a river in CT. I feel that a canoe or yak is at its best on a small to medium river.
  14. I am a huge fan of cork but the air foam on my steez is very nice. Its a little different Than other eva i have handled and did not like. I would choose a full carbon handle over eva and cork is still number one.
  15. The latest generation my son included wants fast pace instant gratification. He along with many others also do what is cool and for some reason fishing is not cool. Expense is an excuse because every kid i know has a cell phone that would buy a very nice setup and plenty of gear to have fun for a long time. Am i upset there are less people fishing hell no. I go out to enjoy peace and quiet. Marketing is not a concern of mine and if people want to do something else then power to them.
  16. You may want to try a light punching rig. 1/4 weight punch skirt 2/0 strait shank and some baby brush hawgs. This is a very compact setup and I get it threw a bunch of thick junk with a little shake.
  17. That dude needs a different hobby
  18. I use goodridge brake bleeders and sensors.
  19. #6 sucks and has me thinking
  20. To be truthful I love my yak I just hate trying to use it in the area I am currently in. People use ski boats in 50 acre lakes and smaller. Just frustrated at my current location and conditions. 4 foot wakes that the boat comes by every minute is just to much.
  21. I have never had this system so it may be different but when i do brakes and power steering in my car i use a small vacuum pump. It works really good on my motorcycle brakes where you have to pull the air down the brake lines to the calipers. The one i have is called a mighty vac. Another thing that may help is bleeders with check valves. I found out about these for my bike after many brake jobs and they are a life saver. Just some out of the box thinking that may or may not help.
  22. You can trim the plastic rod that is used to apply pressure so you dont have to back it off so far. I would file it ever so slightly and try it again. Less is more in this case. One or two small adjustments and it should never be a problem again. Try setting your brakes a lot lower like at half and use the spool tension to prevent over runs. This should result in you needing more tension and no more lost caps. I would try the adjustments first prior to trimming the plastic tension rod. A third route that may be worth checking into is flushing out the bearings and using a very light oil like boca lightning lube. I did this to the same reel for a friend and it made a huge difference. I remove one shield and clean the bearing out and add one drop of the lightning lube. Everyone has there own way of tuning bearings and this discussion has been hashed out enough a search will provide a number of good results.
  23. I am also a huge fan of the hula grub. You can use it to add bulk to the jig or for a very finesse presentation fish it on a jig head by itself.
  24. Location is everything. In CT 6-13" fish dink 14-17" fish good 18-19" made the week +19 only had about 5 in two years I would catch some good numbers 2-3 fish per hour is good more than that things were really looking up. IN Wa 6-11" dink 11-14 decent 14-17 might have made the week might even get two but unlikely +17 I have a PB of 4lbs 9oz in this state taken this week. I hear a lot of people doing well on the east side of WA but out on the Kitsap Peninsula things are a little more difficult. I dont have any electronics and that is killing me here as compared to CT. Numbers here are very low and size is also smaller. 5 fish in 8 hours is good.
  25. I have been yak fishing for the last 4 years. People are all about it, and it like it most of the time but people dont talk about the things that are more difficult from a yak. I have never owned a boat and this was a rant about what i went threw my last trip as people are such a holes in boats and ski's to people in people powered craft. Lakes that do not have boats on them on days without a lot of wind are great. I now live in an area that has wind 5-15mph almost every day and i am starting to get frustrated. Bass fishing from a yak is way better than shore fishing but it also has a lot to do with others you share the water with. 4th of July weekend was the worst!!!
