  1. I like the fenwick eliete bass 6'10"ml xfast rod and i use older daiwa reels as i feel the quality is much better. The sol fuego and advantage are a few years old now and i feel the best reels around. For some reason i use the smaller 2000 series spinning reels and love them.
  2. i fish two options and the jigs are very different. I love the serbert jigs and fish them most often. He made me an ayu color that has worked very well with the keitech fat impact. I also like the keitech jig but there very expensive. the hook is in the bait and works like a standard swimbait hook
  3. I always think it is weird that people put the larger unit in the back. You have to look down a lot further when standing and fishing in the front. I would run the larger unit on the bow if possible.
  4. I dig the alphas 105 or the air the megabass zonda or a pixy.
  5. I used a dobyns champion 702 and a Daiwa 2000 series reel to dropshot bass and to lay it to trout on grubs worms and small crankbaits like the duo mr series. The action and power of this rod just worked well for me. I was catching 15-19 trout so if your looking for smaller fish it might be overpowered for gills.
  6. I am having much better luck running a swim jig. Don't know if its the secondary action that helps or the added bulk of the jig. I have just added the jig to the 4" swimbait I was already using.
  7. the yo-zuri pins minnow worked really well for me when I lived in CT fishing incoming rainbows and browns.
  8. If your ok going used the st Croix avid is a great rod and I like the older orange lamiglas excel.
  9. I use a dobyns dx 743 for what your looking to do. It works well and I would recommend it.
  10. I have lived in a lot of states and have always been able to find bathometry maps of my local lakes even if they are smaller. I have looked even on the USGS, and navionics websites and cannot find a good chart for Poplar Tree lake in Shelby county. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  11. If you have a medium fast spinning I would get a mhf casting and call it a day.
  12. I would go 40 or 50 due to the frogs and jigs. You would get less dig when hittingvthem hard.
  13. This is the same opionon of my favorite fisherman G Swindle.
  14. good glass is more than a rifle. So a gun that comes with a scope to me is suspect and the glass is no grade. I would have to agree that a shotgun for the money would be your best choice or finding a deal on a bolt gun. I am a high quality kind of guy and i love marlin. If Cheap is what your going for an old 410 or 20 guage might be the ticket.
  15. I dont know why one would choose a pixy over an alphas. They have basically the same frame but the alphas can do it all. The megabass spool can have you tossing 2-4lb line or go cranking with the black zonda spool. I love the little reel and its good for palming if thats your style. The speed is coming up on these and now they have a 7.2:1 RR.
  16. another good choice if you want a pistol caliber is a 44 mag. Henry marlin and i believe Winchester make rifles in pistol calibers. I enjoy 357.
  17. I think its so true when i see these posts as to why now younger people are no longer getting married. Why give up half your stuff for no good reason. She will stay if she is happy and if not then she leaves and you still have your life and money.
  18. You need to completely change your casting style when making the switch to a baitcaster setup. The whip style that you used with a spinning reel is all problems with a casing setup. This was the biggest step for me, and i also chose reels with good braking systems. I started on a daiwa advantage 153htsl. I own over 30 reels now including several steez baitcasters and i still use my advantages. Sure there a little bigger and heavier but they are built like a tank and i believe was the platform that the current tatula was made from. The bonus is that they can be found for supper cheap used and are salt water safe.
  19. use wire. The best jigs are wire tied and the skirt stays in place. Serbert outdoors uses wire all the time and i love there jigs
  20. I have fished a decent amount of gin clear water in washington and had major issues stepping up in test of line as crossing the 6lb line i would get a lot less bites. I had my best luck on strait 6lb pline flourocarbon and sniper. If i needed to step it up i did use some seaguar flouro leader which is harder and more abrasion resistant than standard line. My leader length was the same length as the rod so i did not have to reel in any knots. My setup was a 2000 daiwa advantage on a 743 dobyns dx rod with 20 lb suffix performance braid and 10 lb seaguar abrazx. This setup worked wonders for me in very clear water and i had enough muscle to move fish. 4lb LMB on 6 lb flouro is a blast though.
  21. I got one of the MHX kits and i dont think it was to much money. I am still working at it as i changed to a X25 setup vise the pre-layed out guide train.
  22. Motrin at least 800mg Benadryl good from bees to snakes A few normal bandaids A small tube of super glue Neosporin small tube. This is a basic kit that is very versatile and small.
  23. the most versatile avid i have and use all the time is the medium casting rod AC66MF. Its great for topwater, squarebill cranking and topwater. My other favorite is the AC70MHF for jigs and even light punching. IF i only had two rods total i could use these and do everything.
  24. tons of extra boats, jet ski's and huge crowds. A good time to night fish as the normal feeding time will happen later in the summer and with all the traffic the fish will stay deep or close to cover.
  25. The in line spinners are best on a Medium light fast action rod. In a river situation i would be looking 6'6" to 7' length range. the shorter rods work for accuracy in areas with small pockets and along the river bank unless your wading. Depending on the size of the worm you could be in the ML to MH range. I like flick shake worms and trick worms in rivers. You could use those and more on a ML as long as you go weightless.
