  1. head shape on the jig, i like archy, 1/4 and a trailer that does not have a lot of extra stuff. a beaver works good for me.
  2. Have you checked out the mb XXX perfect pitch. Might be worth a look.
  3. Why is the knock off better than the original. They are the same including the package and are just a cheaper version. So you gave away the keitech to switch over the new bait is better in what way???
  4. I will also have to agree here. I love my croix and i have a lot of others. Tons of great companies out there and i could go all Dobyns, all st croix or all daiwa and be good. It helps manage expectation when ordering a different rod. Croix, and dobyns have some of the best customer support and thats why i choose them most often. Any product that has to due with pure fishing is out, to include fenwick.
  5. One important factor for me is spool size. I am a filler, and 200 yards only is not what i am looking for. I use manufacturers who put out bulk spool sizes and i have yet to see the new flouro in a larger size. I do love their other products and that is one reason to give it a try but why fall in love if i cant get what i want.
  6. I have a 5" shad that i have taken out once to test. The tail does not move like a hud when reeling very slow. I will give it a while and if it does not produce then i may try boiling the tail for a bit.
  7. take them to the auto parts store and have them load tested for free. If your going to replace them i would recommend Trojan or interstate.
  8. what is your application, for starting CCA is most important. If using for FF and trawling motors then life at the intended discharge rate is king.
  9. I like knots that are easy to tie and ones that dont use up a lot of line. I tie the palomar a lot but it takes a lot of line when putting on large baits. I snell for punching a lot so i am very good at it and it is very kind to my leaders taking only a few inches a time. I also dont ever seem to burn the line with the snell.
  10. There are many problems or things that have to be worked threw as a brick and mortar store. Overhead is one. volume is a huge one. TW may sell a hundred of a certain reel and do ok making ten dollars a sale. That same mom and pop shop may sell five the entire year and have to make a certain profit per unit to stay in business. My third and maybe most important factor is the owner. If your going to buy and you show them the price difference they should work with you. The store cost may be a lot different from the high volume stores so if they work with you understand that all thing are not equal.
  11. I have a hard time settling on knots for each application and sometimes I repurpose a knot that works well in other places. Long story short I was having an issue with fluorocarbon break offs and I used a snell on a spinner bait and it worked great.
  12. Guides are fairly cheep. Labor to put them on is not
  13. I just picked up some live target swimbaits that are smaller. Cant say yet if they catch but the plastic is soft. The tail on my gizzard shad does not move near as much as a 68 at slow speed.
  14. This is the reason there is no value to having high end rods in stock. You test drive and buy elsewhere. Why carry high end gear if people are not going to buy it???
  15. The red bass moffia 3700 cases work ok and are water tight
  16. I sure hate it when the hook goes in or around the eye. Seems to happen on dinks a lot more, and i hardly ever hook them deep. Barbs are useful when frogging and working in heavy cover. I don't think you would do very well punching without a barb.
  17. yea my steez are bolts but they are still 10mm if i recall correctly and they look the same until you take them apart. Never owned a reel with a 12 but maybe someday?
  18. you can do this on a few daiwa reels. The worm gear from a sol/alphas can be changed i think it was with a pixy and the pe versions of the zillion came with a faster worm gear. More might be out there but those two i am positive can be changed
  19. All daiwa handle nuts are 10mm as far as i know. I own a pile of daiwa reels and they are all the same. I would caution you to not over tighten the nut on the handle as the treads in the nut are very soft and will strip very easy and then the handle will wobble a lot. I would not put a ratchet on it at all and just go as hard as you can with the socket in your fingers.
  20. i would want a dropshot with keitech 4" strait tail worms green pumpkin. I could carry a lot of those worms and in a pinch i could dig up some fresh ones.
  21. I love my avid 66mf for target casting Square Bills near cover and on river systems when i need to be very accurate. In all other times i am using a dobyns 764 rm cranking rod. The distance i get with the zillion hlc and that rod is wonderful for getting to depth and long casts keep the bait in the water longer. JMO
  22. I "WASTE" big money on life vests. My kids share a mustang childrens vest the yellow one and i have the top of the range HIT inflatable for myself. I wear mine every time i am out even if its 100 degrees or more out. I only take one kid out at a time so everyone in the yak is in a vest at all times. When they get a little bigger then i will get them the same quality that i wear in an inflatable but i want them in the floats all the time model with nothing to play with. I did have my son inflate my vest screwing around at the dock and that was an expensive event.
  23. I hear that the new mojo has the sc3 blank the same as my older avids. That medium should do you well but will not be good for frogs even so. I think that blank will do 3/8 jigs ok but does better 1/4 and less. I use sweet beavers a lot and they are not a lite trailer. If you are using a paca craw or some type of double tail grub then you should be able to do 3/8ths good. same goes with swim jigs the medium does good on 1/4 with a 4" paddle tail. My jig rod is a legend MHF and i use it above 3/8ths.
  24. The last statement about power could not be more true. One 3 power rod could be a lot different than another. Some companies use numbers and others are just medium. I fish a lot of st croix and they are very powerful. A 3 power Dobyns is a lot less powerful than a medium st croix. I like both rods but if you had a st croix medium power i would say you were good to go. If your in the dobyns rods i would recommend a 4 power at least. I still prefer a MHF st croix for most applications.
  25. I would exchange the rod if you got it locally. I love to frog fish and a MHF is the rod of choice for me. Some people use a heavy but no one I know uses a medium. Also if your into single hook baits like jigs and spinner baits I like the extra power of the MHF to drive the hook home. Its just how I fish and you may be different. Any desire to use small swim baits, the extra weight capacity may help...
