  1. I got a 74hf st croix and it's a triple duty rod. Punching, frog and small SB up to 2oz. The s-waiver 168 is great on that rod along with all sizes of mattlures hard gills. Heavier than 2oz get a dedicated rod.
  2. I like my x series pheonix a lot. Might be worth a look. The x-10 got rave reviews on TT and the larger x rods also did well minus handle length which is no issue on a custom build.
  3. Get a large wake bait or buzz bait. Even the smaller strikes will be more exciting. A slammer or a 316 or mattlures wake are all good choices.

    Snaps

I use snaps but there are only two brands that get high reviews. Owner and decoy are the only ones I hear consistantly are high quality. I use the owner but nothing bad to say about decoy. Any snap reeled into a tiptop will give you headaches.
  5. Rocks and RIP rap will make the strongest fisherman cry. I dont care if it's a MB jerk bait or a pizz Sb the rocks will brake you.
  6. Well depending on the time of year and type of lure I would say .8-2 mph would be good. I fish shadraps on the slow end during winter and early spring. Some lures like spoons and spinners might need faster to get the correct action
  7. This after many years is the line I trust and return to. 6lb on a daiwa 2000 spinning reel 10 on a sol/alphas 12 or 15 on bait casters and 20 on a dobyns 806 for baits up to 6 oz.
  8. Lost my dad in August to cancer and know someday I'll suffer the same fate. It would be nice if this was available and not stupid expensive
  9. I believe this to be mostly true, the exception is very clear shallow water. To define it loosely if you have great clarity for jerk baits or swimbaits, I believe it matters. How much does it matter that's anyone's guess
  10. This is terrible and one of the reasons i supported them and bragged on them so much. Keeping American made products in America really did it for me. I was as loyal as about anyone and it breaks my heart.
  11. Can a box end wrench do everything and is it worth getting a ratchet. Yes factually it can, but there is a chance your experience could be improved by trying new things.
  12. That sucks i put in a lot of work on that thread
  13. What? This is a long past issue that I resolved in person. Do you have a new issue other than the op?
  14. I have seen old threads brought back just to verify if the information was still valid. It's not near as bad as what is the best rod for 100 bucks.
  15. The owner hyper wire I use a lot of 2 and 3. The shadrap and kvd 1.0 will take a 2. The 1.5 kvd I use a #3
  16. If you want an accurate answer then we need accurate inputs. What does that really mean, i would ask what the real power in grams each rod has and the line/hook combination along with the cover your facing and your fishing style. No plain answer will really cover your question but generalities can be used. A st croix mlxf will have in general the power of any other manufacturers medium. So in that case it might almost be a direct or very close power comparison. I fish a fenwick mlxf that has good power and compared to my 702 dobyns champion i would say is a much better choice for dropshot and weightless 5" stick worms. Your stated tactics have some very different power requirements based on how you rig them. Is this a weedless tube or exposed on a standard jig head. Are we deep water fishing or target fishing. I would be comfortable saying a 7' medium power st croix spinning rod would cover you in the power department but i have no idea if the rod would load properly for a good cast. if I were looking xf speed i would be gunning for a longer rod to help casting and a good tip. The tip is not described at all in rod statistics but is very important for casting ability. Seemingly simple questions are not always simple
  17. There are several hobie Facebook pages and many yaks for sale on most of them. Tons of Jones out there selling to get the latest and greatest. I roll in a 17 pa12 and the 14 seems for sale everywhere. Hobie kayak things for sale is just one of the groups I am in. Florida seems to have the mother load if your down for a road trip.
  18. First what is breaking the bank... are we talking the same price as the reel. By what your trying to accomplish I would call DVT and have a rod built on a 7' medium light avid blank. The best ul rod that I have used "I dont own one" was the ml pheonix k2.
  19. I feel like a st croix avid 66mf is hard to beat. I like tip down jerkbait fishing and im tall so you may like a shorter rod. Its the best all around rod for jerkbaits and squarebills around. I have my favorites but others have thiers.
  20. I have had this exact 3x9 simmons on my 10/22 and so does my dad. This scope was like 60 bucks when it came out and he got one first. After i tried it out i immediately got one. I like nice optics and own several nightforce scopes. For the range the caliber is capable of there is no reason to go to a better scope. It is clear and has decent tracking for the small amount of adjustment in the middle of the range that i normally use it. I run a UTG 20 moa scope base on mine that runs about 20 bucks, and the UTG rings are decent as well. I tried the dots and as discussed above, in the price range that you would be willing to pay to put on the top of a 10/22 there just garbage. There is a long range shoot at NC pala that goes out to 225 and that will exceed the travel of the scope even with the 20 moa base.
