  1. The company puts bearings where you can tell the most difference ie what is cost effective. I put bearings in my reels that will take them and i can tell the difference but most people dont care or want to do the extra maintenance. I will speak to daiwa reels because those are what i fish most. I add two or four bearings to the handle depending on what it has already. I also add one to the level wind. I like the improvement and feel its worth it to me. The original posters are correct that the original build quality is more important, and if the time and effort made by the company to keep every thing strait and aligned then i have no issue upgrading latter.
  2. Well the vast majority will say they like fishing strait braid. So reading between the lines means they dont think that it matters at all. We all have days that the leader goes on because conditions are tough or the water is very clear. I use flouroleaders all the time to get the abrasion resistance and the clarity. Mono leaders have their place also, and if i have it handy sometimes i use it.
  3. crankbaits dobyns 764rm or 805rm depending on how big a bait your throw. Paired with a zillion hlc with 12lb sniper. rod two mb xxperfect pitch or daiwa steez xbd for frogs jigs punching and small swim baits up to 2oz. I would run a zillion 7.9 j dream and have a slower reel for swimbaits. third option would be a dobyns 806 or 807 swimbait rod for over 2 oz. Do you throw soft single jig hook baits or a lot of trebbles. I love my luna 253 but you may want a Calcutta te gt.
  4. The cost is out of this world as far as i can see. How many times could you change your batteries before you start saving money. If your any thing like me you have more than 200lbs of plastics alone in your boat. Only you can decide the value but you could outfit the rest of your boat for that price alone...
  5. Most of the time you see what the bass pukes up or has in the back of its mouth and use that as a guide. Always worked for me.
  6. I expect to see a line of cement trucks and pumpers going to town with the fast dry spray concrete like they use in tunnel building. Its strong and fast. Getting the government to get there crap together will waste a ton of valuable repair time.

  8. What is the cost of the battery and how many cycles is it good for? This leads to replacement costs and how long it will last. You can pick up a spare 12 in a pinch if something goes wrong, most likely will not be able to be helped with this type of battery.
  9. Lots more information needed brand, model pictures and a how it happened goes a long way. Will the handle not turn or the spool???
  10. I think if we loose the emergency spillway the problem will continue to make itself worse. As the spillway fails and erodes then the amount of water allowed to escape will be more and more as the erosion continues. This is not as bad as a total failure all at once but I believe it could continue empty...
  11. Its all fun and games until the emergency overflow fails and all that water goes down the drain.
  12. I use the hydroflows because I put them back in the box when I get done and set the entire tray on my bench to dry out. Working out of a yak means I don't want to have a bunch of baits floating around in the people space to hook me. I don't exactly like how easily the current hydroflows break and if bass mafia came out with a hydroflow version I would have them in a second. I have never had an issue with the BM boxes but I have dropped and shattered more than a few hydroflows. I don't want to get into drilling boxes that will not hold up. I cant bring myself to drill a 37dollar box or that would have been the best answer.
  13. I have all Daiwa reels so I feel comfortable working on those as I do all my own maintenance. DVT is a shop that will do it for a standard fee. If you find the reel it would be nice to have for parts at least!
  14. I wish they had a 3701 or a 3601 hydroflow. The keep my baits from rusting.
  15. I use it all but copolymer is where it's at for me. YHB is the best. I use 14lb xl for topwaters. I have a lot of rods that run braid leader also. Line is a tool and there are many good answers.

  17. A shorter rod gives the fish less leverage so it takes less effort to turn its head. Long casts, amount of line you can move to generate powerful hook sets and ability to move a fish in a direction you want due to the long lever arm are advantages of a long rod.
  18. On cant buy a bite days i am going with a weightless plastic. A 4" cane thumper in watermelon red flake or black blue, and a small 4" lizard. Last bait is a 4" swim bait in the shad shape like the keitech easy shad. I dont fish much smaller than this except in extreme cases i have 3" easy shads for crappie that i will try.
  19. I try and not have near that many baits. I have kept myself down to one large tote, but alas i know i will fail given enough time. Great system looks to do a great job.
  20. I also like the keitech fat and regular swing impact. I use the fat when i am trying to create a larger package. Tons of companies are ripping off the design now so any of the ribbed paddle tails work. I also use serbert swim jigs because i get exactly what i want. AYU is my favorite but others work as well.
  21. This is simply not true. Most reels don't but nice ones do. Monoblocks are each numbered and i know others are.
  22. I am looking at the helix 7 with gps and down immaging. I fish off a yak so SI is not a thing for me nor do i worry about the ability to network. Those options cost more in the same unit. Depending on where you mount this it could be great, at your console while driving and then latter add a larger unit at the bow that you can see while standing. Imo the larger unit belongs up front if you have to choose. The unit i chose was 499.99 right in your price range.
  23. I have a bag that carries 4 and one that carries 7. I almost always carry the 4 tray bag. 1 box filled with plastics 1box terminal tackle 1 box crankbaits 1 box random take offs. This is where i put things i use all the time like a few jigs, a few chatter baits, and my need this trip items. Its a mixed tray that i always have. In a pinch i can fish out of this tray with a few hooks and weights thrown in.
  24. Well there are two thoughts, one the entire package matters at this price point and how the rod looks plays a huge part at this price point. The second thing is a custom rod could be built exactly the way you want it for the same or cheaper. I see people worry about resale on a custom rod so I guess I don't understand people who would spend that much on a rod and worry about how much its worth to someone else. I know some buy and sell a lot so maybe its that crowd.
  25. That price point is deep into JDM territory with Megabass, and evergreen. That rod better be real nice!!!
