  1. Every video I have seen has them caught on live bait.
  2. Zpi makes a great all around bearing and hh makes good specialty bearings. I would stick to those on a high end reel. You could use some brand new stock bearings, they are good out of the highest end reels.
  3. If your main line is braid no reason to have a reel near that heavy. Move down to a 1500 or 2000. It will be a lot more balanced and sensitive. You may even want to check out a shallow spool option like a 2004.
  4. They can carry more weight sometimes, but it's worse in the wind.
  5. If your goin to do that then there is the conquest and your already behind
  6. That's the cheapest arms rod I have seen. https://www.eastackle.com/c-1319-megabass-arms-super-leggera-bait-casting-rods.aspx
  7. Some people do have very short periods. I think the black widow rods from nfc have a very short warranty and maybe the z-bones but not positive. I know there out there maybe I got the company wrong.
  8. The electronic reels are called DC and are made by shimano. The claim to be backlash proof is from the daiwa sv spools. Some of the sv spools are better than others and most have an agresive breaking profile. A few trips to the back yard this winter to practice will make spring a lot easier.
  9. It sounded to me like he was just learning to use the reel. Going below 3/8th before he is comfortable with the setup is an exercise in fustration. I have never used the reel in question is it even capable for lite lures. I use an alphas for lite lures but never went bfs. Throwing a weightless trick worm was enought for me.
  10. Flourocarbon is the hardest line to control. If your learning get something soft manageable and cheap. Berkeley xl in 12 or 14 would be a great learning line. Braid sucks to learn on but if you go that way use 50 or 65 as it's much easier to deal with than 20. Use heavier lures to practice. A 3/8th jig wit trailer like a beaver or even a 1/2 will be easiest.
  11. The edge is market hype. Another 50 hp in that motor means nothing to me. If your a pro then you have a budget and you are in it for money. I am in it for fun and friends so the cost is not my primary concern. I fish out of a yak because it leaves more fore tackle. Some people enjoy nice gear, I know I do, not because it's expensive. The best rods I have are hand made and are worth way more than the money they cost. Money is always a factor in life but let's be real 400 dollars for a rod is not near top end these days.
  12. The fenwick mlxf spinner works good for me. I use it for dropshot and shakey head. I prefer it to a dobyns champion 702 that runs a hundred dollars more. I have both still.
  13. Half that for a right hander. The curse of the lefty is strong with me. If that's a left for that reel in good shape I'll take it.
  14. Are you looking for the best value or something shiny and new. What is the budget. You can get a clean TDZ for around 200 which i would put against anything out there or for around 150 you can get an original fuego with the mag frame for 150. An alphas can be had for 1-200 based on condition and will take a DIY spool that will toss trout baits on the right rod.... Left or right???
  15. Thats where i was currently seeing the best deal like 50 cents each. I have never used that hook but they have a good reputation. Can't bring myself to pay a dollar a hook as most of them are planned on putting them on my kids found lures. No reason to use junk as i will use the same ones... The gamys are about .75 and the owner are about 1.00. On special baits like a mattlures gill sure but not a 5 dollar KVD bait.
  16. The bass mafia box is heaven for this one thing. I use the regular one and put them by rows and color. Top green pumpkin left light right heavy. Next row water melon and the same light left heavy right pastern. I fish four colors so i dont have a huge pile. Brown, black, pumpkin, watermelon. Use trailers to add glitter or contrast. If you have a bunch of the same then the deep version might work better. No rust since i started using this box and only take them out never back in. When they come out and after use they go into the ready box for further use, until there lost or given to a young fishermen on the bank to share the love....
  17. Winter time has most of us working on gear and i am looking for a deal on some good hooks. I am talking bulk packs from 25-100. I know you can buy boxes of a thousand but i am not ready to go that far. If a really good deal is out there i may stretch for a 250 box or even go in on a split if anybody wants to try that....
  18. Been having a lot of issues getting on is everything ok????
  19. Favorite to fish swaiver 168, best to catch the KVD 1.5 in bluegill
  20. I am orginaly from california so i hate being couped up for the winter. I get out whenever i have the chance but it was 5 degrees here last night and there is no way i am going out with the 10 mph wind and 10 degrees right now... I have started cleaning and getting my reels ready but that will only last so long...
  21. Sounds like a great backpack and small river rod. Have fun with it and enjoy the memories...
  22. I feel like it can be an advantage at times. I have caught a lot of fish on worms with red flake. I have also done quite well on blue and purple flake when trying to imitate bluegill. Orange seems to be loved by the small mouth guys but i have not ever used it. It is an accent just like adding a blade to a swim bait. Its not going to have them jumping in the boat but it can help make a change if the conditions are right for that change. My old fishing partner was in love with black flake and said it added depth but still natural. I like it most on clear days...
  23. The beauty of braid to leader is you can use what ever size you like. The knot may work better with simular sized lines and with my favorite the alberto smaller braid holds flouro better for me. The 10 lb will break somewhere before the braid but that can be an advantage depending on what your trying to accomplish. I use 30 braid for 6-15lb leaders regularly.
  24. So many of us are older and hate the low quality garbage video's that are out there and would enjoy killing the winter watching only the high quality stuff that we may learn something useful. I have a few channels that i follow for different reasons. I have watched the kids fish and they are not my style. Here are the ones i really enjoy. #1 Bassresource This is my favorite channel and i have been watching it for years. It covers just about everything. This is a site and a youtube channel. #2 Keeping it real fishing, this is a youtube channel and a guy from NJ does a great job on his reviews and i like that he compares like products. His glide bait review was very helpful and he fishes out of a canoe and i relate a lot as i fish out of a very close vessel. There is little to no hype and i feel he is very truthful and is not looking to make money or get sponsored. These are my two favorite and as i find more i will add them. There is enough quality content to keep you busy for hours.
  25. Best blanks pheonix k2, st croix sc5, nfc, and some really like the rainshadow blanks. I have the 610mxf sc5 blank and it is the best I have ever fished. Some of the megabass and daiwa rods are very nice but you cannot get those blanks. http://pointblankrods.com/2015/04/27/69/ I am very interested in point blank and they are supposed to be premium but I don't know anyone that has used one.
