  1. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dobyns-Champion-XP-7ft-3in-Heavy-Casting-Rod-Great-Condition-RL109/202206456229?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Grab something used like this one and grab a magic eraser to clean the cork and have at. This place sells a lot of mid to high grade rods used and you will save half or more off new. At your age and spending power value is king.
  2. There are a few north cal dedicated swimbait sites that i am part of and they talk about that lake all the time. Might be worth some time on FB to put you on fresh info for guys there all the time.
  3. If you have good reels that work why go as low as a tat. If there is not any rush why not get a reel that inspires you. Just a thought.
  4. Lake name might be even better????
  5. Favorite place I ever fished was black lake in upstate new york. Only spent a week there with my best friend but it was amazing and had ever species you would want from musky to panfish.
  6. 10 lb pine 100% or sniper. None extra.
  7. Custom rods cost more than factory rods. Custom rods can be built to your spec depending on the applications you use most. I like extra fast rods running copolymer for single hook applications. I like medium fast rods for trebe baits. Your line choices change the flex in your system along with rod speed. Everyone likes different things and one recommended setup might not work for you. Do you like a moderate or fast jerkbait rod. They both work just different styles.
  8. 1.st Croix 2. Megabass 3. Phoenix
  9. I have kept my two htsl both still work great and something to have as reliable backups. My son is now 9 and they will be his reels soon as he can keep his paws off my sv103 and steez reels. If there still working correctly no reason to change imo.
  10. Could not give up topwater. That is the best in fishing imo. I could give it all up but topwater. Does this list include a swimming type worm to fish horizontal? I dig simple because I fish oUT of a yak and don't bring more than a single 4 tray 3700 bag. More choices does not mean better results so I dig your movement, I just constraint by volume of that bag.
  11. Fish, why ask silly questions
  12. Only thing i could help you with is mount with the ram balls. Then if you decide you want to move something you can swap out the position of the monitor with a rod holder or other accessory. Prevents a lot of extra holes in the boat. I have a hummingbird helix 7 that i am working on instillation and making a bracket for the transducer. I have a nucnoe classic 12.
  13. I guess i am old school as i have a 7.9 but it gets no play. 6.3 works well for most things. I like a 7.1 for frogs but thats my fastest reel in rotation. It is also a good speed for pitching and punching, where the bait is not worked with the reel. I guess the best way to decided is if the bait is reeled or worked with the rod. Jerkbaits, frogs, jigs and things you dont reel in faster can be better.
  14. Watching the dvd movie southern trout eaters and these guys are just killing these rods. High sticking swinging huge fish into the boat. I cringed threw half of the movie. Might make a great what not to do with your rod training video.
  15. Another cheap option might be a musky rod, which will be fast action and be good for the single hook baits like a huddleston trouts gills or mattlures top hook gills. Dam people are thinking faster than i am and beating me by seconds....
  16. This is not what you want. This a catfish rod. The cheap rod that people start with is the okuma guide select. This not a swimbait rod
  17. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Phenix_X-Series_Composite_Crankbait_Casting_Rods/descpage-PCBC.html The bottom rod
  18. 4lb 7oz on 5" Keitech and 5/0 owner flashy swimmer. Missed the first bite and she hammered it again. Lights out
  19. I was using the 1/4 benski in silver. I am ordering the gold to see if it's any better. Never used a lure knocker before but fishing blade bait's please have one. I got hung up on wood a dozen times. First time using a knocker but glad I had one in the bag. The one I have is just a clip-on weight but worked good.
  20. The alberto is the only connection know i use. Its easy to tie even on the water, fast and strong. The only important part is to make sure its tight so the braid cuts into the leader material. Never had any burn issues with it either...
  21. My jig rod, a sweet blank and rod...
  22. Never used any kind of scent but am looking into this for the next year as it supposed to help the soft swimbaits last a lot longer. Might grab a tube of this stuff as it seems like a good one that will stay on....
  23. Went out yesterday and caught my first blade bait fish. Ended the day with 8 all small but the water is still very cold. The Keitech easy shiner in 3" caught the rest on a 1/32 ball head. They were more active than I expected.
  24. A lot of guys go over the rating and its not a huge deal. Do NOT try and power cast with a rod over its rating. The listed numbers are just a guide. If you have fished enough you will know what a loaded blank should feel like and if the blank is struggling. I have a heavy action st croix that feels great on 2oz but its rated to 1.5. I have no plans on going over 2 but i needed a little stretch to make it work for my fishing plan. It is a risk and you may brake the rod. Matt Allen tells stories about casting a 6 inch hud on a medium rod. I will not go near that far. Just lob the bait dont power it to down town and you should be ok...
