  1. Never believed any of the tricks. I get them back in water as soon as possible because, that is there NaturAL environment. In air I think they bleed a lot more and no question the stress is a lot more. In a tournament situation where there is a death penalty I would leave in the hook until after weigh ins. Then release all the others and take out the hook and let them recover in the well. If there good off they go. If not then I give them to a dinner plate no reason to waste.
  2. A dash of kvd l and l on that towel might not be the worst idea either.
  3. This I a solid list. If you had a sb setup or not would change my list. Top to bottom I would get a wake. Two good choices a 316 wake junior or Matt lures meathead. Mid range first glide should be an swaiver. For price and performance it cannot be touched. 168 or 200 up to you but not the smaller one. Deep. This is where I go weedless. A bait that has a hook that can be texposed. The large Keitech might be the cheapest easiest to find and most versatile. It is possible to hang up this bait but I have never lost one due to hangups. If it was winter I might recommend a hud but they are more expensive and now we're headed at spring. The right rod to fish huds is a lot more questionable as well. As a fourth and final nub bait the spro rat in 40 or 50 would round out my first few months.
  4. You should be able to walk it out and reel it in with nothing attached. Helps some.
  5. The mhx kits are a good place to start. Mud hole is were I got my stuff. Wrapping guides takes a ton of patients.
  6. I like the bigger unit up front in any case. I bought a 7n for my yak because when I get a boat next year that's what I plan to use at the console. The add a 9 or 10 up front linked and your done.
  7. Depending on the boat I like them to fly by. A nice bass boat on plane leaves very little wake. If its close then slowing down is appreciated. The worst are the wake boats and kayaks are invisible to them. Can't win sometimes.
  8. I don't fish lomis but athe that price and weight range I would be looking at the St Croix le74hf. I have the avid in this power and length and it's amazing. My mhf aND below are sc5 and those rods are amazing.
  9. Your worries are unfounded. The reduction guides "normally the first three" reduce the coils down to running guides. The running guides can be very small and are limited by knot size ice or buildup from junk on your line. The height and diameter of the first guide is the one to match, and you can check the fugi guide trains on their website.
  10. When you think you have a feel for it then learn sitting in a chair. That's what pitching is like out of a kayak. If you have a boat disregard.
  11. This model is 100 off at the tackle trap. For 200 dollars it might be worth it to try your first megabass. If your looking for that it factor I have not seen any feed back on that rod. The original perfect pitch on the other hand has a cult following. I have not fished the xx line. The rods I have used are big bait rods and there sweet.
  12. I found that i adjust my reel way loose to do this. The cast control is basically off and the spool tension is way less than for normal casting. Your spool will never be at high speed so the controls will not do a lot to help your out. Start at a normal tension and then slowly ease it off. Im not talking sloppy or anything but less than normal. The type of spool seems to have a big effect also. The older mag force daiwa reels with the V spools seem to pitch a lot better form me. I do well with a steez 100 spool but the deep megabass zonda spool in my alphas blows up on me every time. I dont know what reel your using but some are better than others.
  13. I only see them for trade for other pat's. Dont know if you have tried a slammer but the three pace could be a decent alternative and be 400 and change cheaper. Pat's are cool but the style is around in other lures that will get the job done without the insane markup.
  14. The binsky made it big on the east coast and the blade that i fish. I run both silver and gold depending on the day and swap them if one is not working to see if its a color thing. Hair jigs and marabou would be a grate choice when its real cold because they have their own action and do not need to be moved to work. Strange enough the plain white have worked the best for me in the smaller jig sizes. The float and fly would be my last recommendation. I have not used it but its a classic cold water presentation.
  15. I feel like the question should read when not to wacky rig. The superior action and hookups makes it the much better presentation. Depth can be controlled by adding a weighted wacky hook or some split shot after the hook. Wood is the only cover that changes my rigging and only after i hang up a bit. The wacky was killing it on all of my outings in Austin last week and i just delt with the hangups due to all the action i was getting. I dont even texas rig deep, i will shift to a shaky head most times. If its during the summer and i want to use a large 10+ inch worm on a Carolina rig then i Texas rig
  16. You could get a certate high speed. I like the 2000 size reels due to weight and size. I run braid with a top shot or leader.
  17. It would take a lot to get me away from the owner st-41. Search around until you find a hook that you have faith in. No wrong answers just ones you do and don't like.
  18. I like to start with a small swim bait like a 4" keitech. If they will take a moving bait it drives my plans different directions.
  19. Ordered these for my birthday in december. Love the shad paint. The crappie is a little more blue than I wanted.
  20. Some of us just use good hooks and they stay where they should
  21. Is it that sun screen from total recall that is more like paint. One can only hope
  22. Tw charges only 5 bucks for two day if your over 50 bucks.
  23. Reread and foundo you have a 610 medium.
  24. Lb test. I am partial to sunline sniper or pine 100% if you want fluorocarbon. 15 lb yhb is also a good choice. Yhb=you zuri hybrid. Yhb will be a lot cheaper and cast easier. Good flouro is trash if you backlash.
  25. Swap 3. To a 765c and done. Like a long crank bait rod to bomb them out and cover a ton of water.
