  1. In this case I am going to assume you have your salt setups. Grab one of those and some of your salt top water baits and put in an hour or two right before and after dark. If you have big fish in the pond it may turn into quite the exciting time. I am guessing you stripper fished so ifar I am way off then I apologize ahead of time. https://m.youtube.com/user/KeepinItReelFishing This guy is in your state and may have some info you find useful. He is technical and explains in a lot of detail how he is fishing.
  2. Yeah not fond of that rod and what I plan to change.
  3. I never jumped on the Loomis train but I did get a taste of megabass. The scv Croix blanks are just about as good as it gets and is considered top tier. If your looking high end the Phoenix k2 is amazing what time I got to fish one. Not one who likes recoils and that kinda turned me off the nrx at that time. Technically Loomis is now shimano. Just does not float my boat but that's not saying there not amazing.
  4. So I tried this lure out today and initial indications are good but my setup was bad. Wrong hook or wrong rod. I used a dobyns 743dx with 30 lb braid on an sv-103 with a 4/0 ewg gammy. The rod is to slow and moderate I feel, and I thought the braid would make it good. I will swap out to a 70mhf st Croix legend with all other things the same and see if that does the trick. I got 4 bites fairly quickly and tried to set the hook. Never connected and the lure just kept flying back at me. Worked well on bass busting bait right on shore and rigged weedless it's nice like a frog because you just throw it in there and go. I did land a few after I swapped to my popper with st-41 trebles. Nothing escapes that lure.
  5. Bend up and out the hooks just a little. This is also the only technique that i only use braid. Hope that helps
  6. I feel like it's getting later on in the season and these pond fish see an insane amount of pressure. Tons of natural food is also available as I see tons of minnows in these ponds now. Might be time to change tactics and try and find an approach that is not as common. Drops hot maybe?
  7. I have a pack of three that I got to try out this year but have not been in the area to use them. Going on a tourney to reel foot on Sunday and plan to give them a try. Lots of vegetation on that lake so I think they may get used.
  8. Basically round bend for jerkbaits and things that are slapped a lot like top waters and ewg''s on things that are engulfed like rattle traps. I use a cheater hook the st-41 which is a round bend with the tips just slightly turned in. Tons of basic rules but everyone has a favorite and an exception to every guideline.
  9. Coming to the back of a bass pro boat sooner than you can type KVD.
  10. At first I was going to recommend the 68mxf Thai I have and got for my son. It works well for 1/8 jigs with small trailers weightless worms and is a handy rod for skipping docks. If you do a lot of open water fishing and don't use a bait caster then the mhf might be a better all around choice considering your now talking pike and a larger reel.
  11. We all have to operate on an ethic and this is a good one to have. Great info.
  12. I hear there are treatments for being basic which includes more fishing and feeding the bait monkey.
  13. When there old and can't handle punkers any more
  14. Never fished either of those two but my cheap bass pro 2$ popper catches a ton of fish. The most inportant part in my opinion is hooks. The st-41s cost more than the popper but it is used more than my pop max because it gets the job done. Poppers that you can also walk is the most important part of the bait. Not all will.
  15. The popper works for me any time it's dark. Day worker so I dont get to try that morning fishing often.
  16. This is also who I order form. Great service and price, shipping time sux.
  17. Go at 730 pm and work a frog or popper along the bank and it should catch you at least one. It has worked extremely well for me the last 7 days and I get out almost every night for at least an hour. The zoom 6" lizard in 420 working well on a Carolina rig.
  18. The only other issue I have seen is part 59 pops out of the cap and the cap is pinching the spring between the Cap and spring. If this is not the case, change out part 60 or one of the side plates is loose.
  19. One other thing I was taught but not verified is the Guage of the wire increases a lot between 2/0 and 3/0 in a few hook series. I seemed to need less power to get a good Hooksett in a 5" worm when I started with spinning rods and I was set in my ways by the time I got into casting.
  20. I doubt that the expense could be justified. I use a 735 because of handle length not the rod. Two of the favored enthusiast rods are the perfect pitch which is 7'2" and the xbd frog rod which is 7'4". A lot of fans of the dobyns champion 735. Your in the right area as long as the action works for you.
  21. Point blank it's going to happen. It happens most often with worms and baits at rest on slack line. Any fish I would feel bad about has a mouth big enough to use the hook turning method. If it is to much to handle fish swim baits over 4 Oz and it's never an issue.
  22. Did the spring plate in the cast control cap come out?
  23. Not a big problem, something I would not worry about.
