  1. There is a rod but it's way out of your budget. One of my favorites. Do you want one rod to do three rods jobs your going to pay three rods worth to get it.
  2. The smell knot for me is most about protection of the knot. This is most critical when using flourocarbon, I don't want the weight hitting the knot, on braid unless the weight is sharp most likely means nothing. I don't use punch skirts often and if I want a bigger presentation I use a bigger bait. Lots of differences between where your doing this and deep south like Florida has the thickest weeds. I have not fished there and those that do would have the best insight.
  3. Funny I see this you should hear how the fly anglers talk about the unrefined nature of bass anglers. Always haters and dummies on both sides of the fence. Do realize I have never seen a yak collision that resulted in injuries. Now jet ski's that's where my frustration lays
  4. Spend the time to research batteries, tons of important stuff to know. Would a gel cell be best in your situation an atm or a li. The new li batteries are stupid expensive if bought but they can be built waaaaay cheaper. Tons of YouTube videos to watch on that as well. More power in the battery is always better but not if you can't move it. I favor deep cycle led acid but that's me.
  5. Great lesson on the fish and the hat. Check out the crocks. Great job dad.
  6. Megabass original perfect pitch xx Daiwa steez original 15 lb p-line 100% florocarbon
  7. I would take a rod on sale. I like to buy used but the shipping on rods is a killer so a sale including free shipping is the best deal.
  8. Fish use the best available option. In a pond with little to no cover or weeds to hide in they will suspend. In the water that is most comfortable. If it's shallow that may be just off the bottom. If weeds are available they will burry themselves in weeds to stay cool. If they can find a structure like a tree that generates shade, they may choose to hide shallow under the tree. Combined effects are more likely to hold fish, a deep hole under a shade tree with some branches in the water would be very good.
  9. Some high end lures don't do well from some reports. Jerkbaits seem to be the worst off if I recall correctly.
  10. I use all 2000 sized reels and I think they are the bees knees. If you were going multi species to include bigger fish like pike or stripes I would go 2500. The only drawback to 2000 is they don't seem to offer faster speeds like the 2500. You can get shallow spools the 2004 is great for pan fish, trout and very thin braid if you want to reduce cost. Shallow spools are very popular over seas and as more people use braid I think the demand will go up. Now if we could get some braid specific casting spools that would be nice.
  11. That is a cover question really and I stay long as I am fishing ledges with little to hang up on.
  12. Swim baits with trebles I throw up to 3 Oz on yhb in 15lb. I have also used 12 yhb on the 175 deps with no issues but as it gets warmer I go up to 15 because the bas's have way more fight then at 55 degrees. Big jig hook bottom baits from hud 68s or 8 inches I start and finish at 20 yhb. Never used heavier line than 20 so far but a lot of guys like 25 or 30 on large baits like the mother and deps 250. Because of knot strength if fishing flouocarbon I would go a little stronger. I am assuming you mean 3 or 4 ounce not 3/4 ounce.
  13. A yak to me is all about planning and fishing minimalist. Some guys drag 9 rods and more gear than I own bUT for me it's 3 rods or less and a bag with 4 3700 boxes. If I plan to big bait it's a few baits and one rod. Find your passion and roll with what works for you. My terminal tackle is a smaller box that fits under my seat or in the side pocket of my bag.
  14. Any of the xd series have great hooks, I hate the regular series hooks.
  15. But at least he will know it's not the right rod, so then at least the expectations will change. A lot better than saying it will work good then not leaving him disappointed.
  16. Well if he would have put them on the bbq that would have not been an issue. Nothing moves after the grill!!!
  17. They could have fixed this problem earlier this year durine the cold snap when they were part frozen and falling out of trees. Easy day, guess it's someone else's problem to fix.
  18. I just use #2 hooks in what I already have. The standard owner st 36 in #2 works great.
  19. 10 lb cx or yhb. Both great lines. I RUn 14lb xl for topwater or 30 braid.
  20. The 807 is recommended for hud fishing way over the 806. The power is higher and the action faster from most people's analysis. I have an 806 champion but use it for trebLe baits like glides and wakes. If you like the 6 then you will want the 8 so just get the 807 to start with.
  21. I like to travel to fish and see new and beautiful places. Austin TX is a lot cooler place from lady bird lake and if you go in the evening you can watch the bats.
  22. I consider small swimbaits, under 2 oz. Few decent choices in that area the two small Huddlestons, the hud gill and the smaller Matt lures gills. Tons of hollow body baits in that weight range and the mid size keitechs like the 4.8. I again would focus on the single hook baits with an extra fast rod and braid would not be first choice. A second spool with braid for frogs would be the best choice.
  23. Got to play to win. Never got a ticket yet.
  24. The 735 has an extra fast tip at least in the champion series. May want to stick to smaller jig hook baits if you find that's the case like the Matt lures soft bluegills top hook. Might be OK for the hud shad also.
