  1. Get a yak vise a boat and you can fish on the savings for the rest of your life
  2. You don't even need a rod and reel. You could use a stick with line and hook. The use that all over the world. I get nice gear, because it improves my fishing experence. There are deals to be had on nice gear and dirt cheap stuff on craigslist. If your goal is to fish cheep it is very possible.
  3. There is a new duo deep diver that might be worth a look
  4. Have you broken off? If your having issues then go heavier. The basic is to go as light as reasonable to get the most bites. I catch 3-4 lb bass on 6 in the weeds and I have to go to them. Your style will have a lot to do with it.
  5. I had a boater teach me the ropes and show me the way my first trip. Guessing many people make assumptions. Thinking its like proper fish handling. We just expect people to know and do a good job. Don't read that to mean that some people are not just garbage.
  6. Sc3 would be great for a first build and as you build more then I would move up to the 5
  7. Matt Allen has a ton of good videos on YouTube or tactical bassen. He discusses dobyns because that is what he fishes. He also covers reels line and proper way to cast large baits. Mostly a one stop shop.
  8. I wonder if no one has ever shown them the right way or if they even know that there is more to be done. It might be ignorance?
  9. Matt Allen from tactical bassen
  10. Not in the same price range but the orange lamiglas 702 spinning blank is very nice. Further up the cost chain are the st Croix dropshot blanks.
  11. L+L=good for flouroReel magic= bad for flouro
  12. Three for me. First one was a light spinning I broke being a nucklehead when just starting off. Got a lure stuck in a tree and tried to wip it out like I was using an ugly stick I was used to. First graphite rod gone. Second was a fenwich small mouth mhf casting rod that I highsticked while trying to land my pb from a yak and she made a last run and it was all tears after that. Third was done in transit some how and I went to pull it out of its rod glove and six inches of the tip was broken off. That was a lamiglas 702 spinning rod that I really liked. The first rod I broke in two years and I don't even know really how it happened.
  13. I think it works but as a lube that does not change the line at all. Line magic or whatever its called is not good on flouro for that reason
  14. And I got autocorrected dam.
  15. I have there 7'3" 2 power blank that I am building my first rod on. Your guide train will make a much lager impact on end weight and overall handling. I have half my guides still taped on and a full handle and its still very light. I ordered the high fugi guides and they are very nice.
  16. Guessing he ment .5 oz
  17. Me to. I use 6lb sniper
  18. This would be a much more valid discussion if that rating was an industry standard. A lot of builder's collect blank data for speed and power and companies vary a lot on the same speed.
  19. I like a setup that looks good together. I run a lot of black rods like the old avids so the reel can be any color and really it matches right? I have some black reels I put on my colored rods st Croix legend. So that's easy. But I love my done up Sol on my dobyns DX. It looks great and fishes good to. Did I give up performance, I think not and I did not pay more to have them match. I I am a sucker for orange though. Fish what makes you happy. I enjoy rods and reels but have a yak vise a boat. Some might claim to use setups worth more than your boat, is crazy but I don't care about that either. So does that mean I now have to drop 5k on a hobie? I fully understand painted reels and custom rods. Color of thread most of the time does not cost more. Eve a few bucks in a custom project is really nothing. So yes!
  20. With a deal like that I could be broke afterwards and happy!
  21. Because its the time I have to let go. I spend one on one time with my kids and my maker.
  22. Use the same one everywhere. Old man status and just for kicks.
  23. Just checked 15 you right
  24. I think the warranty on the x is very short like a year. I like the standard avid casting so I will be sticking with those. Wish they had a standard handle micros
