  1. I have a U-1 in my hobie and its great, but your total electrical load needs to be considered. Are you running a TM and a sonar? I am only running a sonar and charging my phone. I can also run lights but there LED and dont take much juice.
  2. Craig's list or local Facebook. Rods cost more than most are worth. Reels are easy and cheap to ship. Many here build use them a short while and then move them.
  3. I think they used to hand those things out to open sea rations. I never had the privilege but sure i did not miss anything.
  4. The higher gear raito on the jig rod and the lower for cranking. More pitches per hour that way. The 6 something reel may feel better on the crank baits and this time of year you need to sloooooooooooooow down
  5. To be completely fair the army is a ground force, while the navy a water force. In your own element you better win, because in the 70% of the world that is covered with water army has no chance. Death from below, because submariners do it deeper.
  6. Grab a 5 or 7 shadrap in black and white, cast or troll until you catch fish. Crappie, bass trout, bluegill and even big sunfish eat that bait. When you catch one make a bunch more casts in that area before moving on.
  7. Easy check the gear ratio. The sv-103 never came in a 7.3:1 and the raito on the reel does not match the box.
  8. The guys here are outstanding. If you need help many have gone out of there way to help me. I am so happy to see that you got one of his rods, and i am positive it will become a favorite.
  9. All that nice gear and you drive a ford????
  10. A small swim jig may work good. It gives it some bulk and you can put it right into the cover they will most likely be up next to. I like to use 1/8ths on a 3.8 or 4" easy shiner.
  11. There are a few wet nymphs like the copper john that can do some amazing work if you want fast action.
  12. What are we talking about nice. If your talking mb white python, that rod will do everything, but most have sticker shock. A zillion original will be a forever reel if you are not a weight worrier. A new sv-13 is I feel the best money can buy for mid range. So if volume is not preferred you could get one casting and one spinning setup and be done.
  13. Might do better looking at spool tuning. Can you cast with the reel wide open, and almost all the breaks turned off. Bearings are a big expense for little payback in most cases.
  14. Not feeling the Christmas spirit around here..
  15. Not every driver is qualified to drive in F1 or ride a GP bike. The machines are still the best even if the driver is not capable. Is that the machines fault, i think not. Do people expect the product to make them better even if their skills are not up to the task, absolutely. Then you have those that believe and buy into the hype, not helping anything. Finally there are those people who think there F1 car is better than your F1 car, and will argue themselves until blue in the face.
  16. Now that's some solid data. Wonderful thank you
  17. A cheap one will not do what you need. Another idea would be to book a fishing guide that would have top end equipment, and if a finder will locate it, they should have the high end gear. The bonus is someone would handle the boat while you go in after it.
  18. What is the value of the rocket that your trying to find. The better fish finders that have side scan or other high definition functions are going to cost more than a little coin. You may do better with a metal detector if there is metal in the rocket. If it was very light and a shute or streamer deployed then it may be much further down stream than where it landed. The more information you provide the better people would be able to help you reach a good plan....
  19. If i was building them i may consider building in a ball bearning swivel into the top. If you like to tie direct this would add another component and might not be something you want, but if you have line twist issues it will remove at least one component if you add them after the fact. The cabelas or bass pro house brand ball bearing swivels worked just fine for me in most of the small spinner fishing i did.
  20. I like the 40 size rat but i use the brown color. I dont fish the "bull shads" but i do fish the mattlures shads. The 6" gets the thumbs up in that bait for me. I had a hard time until i started really cranking it. They have video's out now about how mike recommends burning the BS. The bigger baits will draw big bites but you will get less bites. If your into trophy hunting then that may be ok, but you have to be willing to put in a lot of work for that pay day.
  21. The guppy head is what matt uses for the smaller baits. If you go real small then they use a darter head. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dirty_Jigs_Matt_Stefan_Guppy_Swimbait_Jig_Head_3pk/descpage-DJSGH.html
  22. When i lived in CT i did well on medium sized crankbaits. The rapala flat rap got me a few in the 3-5 range. Never had a huge one.
  23. Do you mean that it did not pour well or what made it hard to work with? I am learning a ton about casting and making good mixtures for casting and was wondering if people had a background in bullet casting. There seems to be a bunch of good info about using tin to make the molds fill out better and places like rotometals for getting material for just the right mix. I have yet to try so i am trying to do the background research to make this a smooth operation.
  24. I am about to get all my dads casting stuff, and when making bullets the harness of the mix is measured in a brn number. I would think that very hard jig heads would transmit feeling a lot better, even if it is not quite as dense. Anybody do both and can provide a recommendation.
  25. They do seem to be more crisp but mostly my high end rods feel lighter and better balanced. My scV mhf is factory made and is my second favorite rod so we spend a lot of time together. I had a SCV4 in the same length and action but the handle whas a strait and the SCV was the bulge that is a st croix standard handle. That makes a huge difference in comfort for me so i fished my avids more than the sc4 that i had. As a package i could not really notice a lot between the sc3 and the sc4. The scv was where things came together for me. I would not buy a sc4 blank again. If i could afford all sc5 rods thats the way i would go but in my hands the sc4 does not add enough to be worth the mid step. If i could afford a sc4 but not a sc5 i would still buy a sc3. The avid is just that good and the 4 never inspired me.
