  1. I feel you! It's starting to get cold! Lless snow than usual though.. Hmm.. But yes, a black jitterbug is a killer bait on a hot summer night!
  2. My XPS stuff is pretty durable. For the price of $2.50 that's a steal!
  3. The old ones are sturdy. I still have one. The new ones I've seen feel nice as well. You couldn't go wrong w/a Shimano Round reel either. There is another thread about those... But I still use my old Shimano Corsair. They are good reels.
  4. Actually, a heavier reel will probably feel 'sturdier' than a lighter model. A light model just wont feel like its as 'solid' so to speak.
  5. Mine is a walker. It looks like the forage (shad), has good injured action, and I can cover all kinds of water w/it.
  6. Bass hit frogs w/legs, so there is your answer.
  7. I have heard the Lexa's feel pretty sturdy. I think that my Lew's feel sturdier than the Abu reels, but that is my opinions. My original speed spool feels really "sturdy" for its price point. But a Daiwa Lexa or Tatula may be worth a look. The tat gets my vote over the lexa just because of looks.
  8. Watch the guy on the right http://www.ispot.tv/ad/7r53/straight-talk-wireless-anglers
  9. He never tried a stiffer spinning rod? Berkley Lightning Rod Shock makes some good heavy spinning rods.
  10. You are not fishing slow enough or I heavy enough cover until you start losing tackle
  11. Lot of people like the Seagur Kenzen or Smacdown lines. I'm trying Spiderwire Stealth braid in #50 this upcoming year for flipping, frogging, A rigs and swimbaits. I'll let you know how it is and whether I decide to stay w/it or change brands.
  12. they are discontinuing the old tournament after this year. That is why it is on sale/not on their website. The tournament laser and other laser are their value series they are graphite. That is why they feel cheap. You are better of buying an original speed spool over a laser ir carbon fiemre series reel.
  13. Use the medium 6'6". I can cast lighter (1/16 or less, fine on a medium rod.
  14. Shimano has schematics for their discontinued reels on their website. If you can't find it or need parts call them or shoot them an email.
  15. Flippin jig. The Booyah jigs w/eyes would truly be considered swim jigs.. But the flipping style 'arkie' jig is versatile and can be used for a variety of techniques.
  16. Those look a lot like the original Shimano knobs in my Bantum reels... Are they Hawgtech?
  17. A big stick and a big bait.
  18. Take off the extra fluoro and back your spool w/mono. I'm not a fan of this, but if you want to save money, that is the way to do it.
  19. Suspending Jerkbait, or fish one of your spoons vertically. Hair jigs w/an added trailer to slow the rate of fall are another great option. FLW just posted two great articles, "Winter Bass Fishing Myths" and "Think Vertical For Winter Bass". They were good reads and may help you out a bit.
  20. Medium Heavy is what you want for fishing plastics. Medium heavy is pretty versatile all around, but I would say the lightest rod you think can handle it.
  21. Most companies have their fanboys these days. I feel like they go around tackle warehouse trashing other reels. I get the impression that certain brands are made by god and there not. To be truthfully honest, I've never had a reel from any company I haven't been satisfied with. At a certain price point its not going to fish any better. It may last longer, but its not going to make you better at fishing by any means. Only to a certain point does a reel effect your performance.
  22. I actually like this *** lot! It's like what Abu did with the original Ambassaduer Reels! Some of send this to the reel manufacturers!
  23. This is very true. The tats seem like nice reels. I would also look at Pflueger in the price range as well, but I wouldn't but any other brand (Shimano, Abu, ECT.) I did used to use Shimano reels exclusively. I had many of the Bantum line of reels (Greenies, Magnumlites, and Coriolus reels as well) They were good reels, but they've been used so much the anti reverse on them is shot. That was before Shimano's prices skyrocketed.
