There's a point where you begin to overwork your lure. Also, even with things like t rig that the action isn't effected by the speed, you will be a less thorough fisherman. Many of us need help slowing ourselves down.
Some like fluoro some like braid. It's all a personal preference thing. I like to use braid, because my flipping setup does double duty as a frog setup. I would not use mono. As for # test, I would use 65# for braid and 20# or 25# for fluoro.
They are probably sponsored. Most Pro Staff are guys trying to come up on the tournament circuit. But its more about the level of sponsorship than anything. There is a discounted product level, a free product level, and a free product and payment level. That is quoted from an FLW tour angler.
I just use 12# on my casters and 8# on spinning. I just do this because its what I like. I like light. Or 50# braid for casters and 20# on spinning. But I don't see its a huge deal to 'max it out'
