8 lb would be fine. I have fished spinners almost exclusively and love fireline and Jbraid to a fluoro leader. Smoother castings, less issues, great sensitivity. You can also go down in size. 4 or even 6 lb superline is incredibly strong.
Why isn't an expride M F or St. Croix tourney on the list? Out of the two you mentioned I would go with Imx pro in probably an 852S model. New SC avid is coming out too in fill cork at Icast.
My guess is yes but not 100% sure. Looks like a spare spool is under there so should be more. If the reel came with missing parts I am sure eBay would cover you. Its insured through their buyer protection. I'd open it and find out.
Ronin is a sweat stick but super short for casting. I owned gen one and 2 and the current model is the best. Other great options
Megabass Valkyrie 6-11 M F (high end)
St. Croix Medium F 7'-0"
G. Loomis 842S - for smaller jerkbaits
Shimano Teramar XX 7' MF
Falcon Clearwater MH mod-fast
favorite one but discontinued - Shimano Crucial 6'-10" M Fast
favorite for casting far - Daiwa Steez 7'-6" ML/M
Just depends like GetFishordie stated in what you are fishing for and where. I just bought my first surf setup a couple months back. Bought a Daiwa Emcast 10' MH and a 5000 Daiwa BG. Your reel size will work for medium to small fish but you hook something nice you will probably get spooled. Longer rod will get the bait out farther! I'd even go longer than 10' if I bought another rod. Emcast are really nice buy the way and budget friendly. Good luck on the water!
Been wearing sun shirts and hats for a while but one thing I have been hearing more about lately is how harmful sunglass can be. Your body makes adjustments through your eyes when in the sun and if you block that it can be harmful due to your body not knowing how to adjust (long story short). There are good points both ways but I have been wearing my sunglasses less in the truck or on the boat.
Looked for this exact rod you are looking for. I fish fresh and salt with jerks.
Shimano Teramar XX M F is awesome! I should buy another as backup
Daiwa Backbay M F 7-1
St. Croix M F in most models
Megabass Ronin newest model is best for larger jerkbaits but its short
considered IMX pro 'jerkabait' model but never pulled the trigger
Not a fan of 6'-8" jerkbait rods. Not the best casters.
Contact Phenix and try to get the exact guide. Then bring to a rod builder to have it installed and the epoxy applied. You can always do the install yourself too if you do not care about it looking exactly like it came from the store new.
I haven't fished the casting models mentioned but fished the poison adrena 6-11 and the GLX 842 in spinning and I preferred the GLX and it wasn't even close. Different strokes.
Hey there, I have the St. Croix Avid M F and my favorite...Shimano Teramar XX SE in 7' M F. You won't be able to put it down. Great jerkbait or all around spinner for SW or fresh.
I fished a Loomis Escape hard for several years and couldn't tell the difference both on trips and at home. Just bought a St. Croix Avid trek to try out this season. Haven't had it on the water yet. I like to break them down and just throw in the truck.
I love throwing different color baits but have to agree with the statement that most colors are to catch fisherman. If I had to pick one for jerkbaits it would be silver.
