  1. Daiwa BG 5000 and 9' ugly stick H
  2. I have a 3000 miravel and its a workhorse. You'll like it. I have fished all models of Shimano and Daiwa up to the the $300 range (or most). Great reel. Even fished some inshore water with it. The Sahara and Nasci are great too.
  3. Love fishing UL and hooking bass. I can't recall the largest but I know I typically lose (big ones) them due to the tiny hooks and hook sets with a mod action rod I have but man its fun. I fish small cranks with mine. Probably need to add a XF to the quiver. Thanks for sharing!
  4. Legend tourneys are nice! I also have 7-6 ML XF avid walleye that is really nice as well. The newer models in both are great options.
  5. I've caught a nice steelhead with someone's line a hook attached to a fin. Around here in the fall "fishing" is snagging as many salmon as possible while wearing neoprene waders and no shirt. A lot of fish have seen it all by the time they get up the river.
  6. Go with Medium Fast. Its a powerful rod and a great all around spinner.
  7. This is a fun project and I've done is to several older rods. Like guys said above.....magic eraser, fill with golden oak, and seal with U40. They come out awesome!
  8. Right now I use a 6'-10" Shimano crucial M Fast jerkbait rod and just bought a SC Legend MF to hold me over for a bit. NRX or GLX 842S are also great for smaller jerkbaits.
  9. I've always enjoyed spinning gear for jerkbaits. I'd rather hold onto the rod handle than palm a reel when I am working the bait. I've tried every spinning rod I can think of including both series of ronin which need to be 6'-10 + in my opinion. 6'-8" is too short. I thought about trying the 7' M orochi (shakeyhead) but never did. I have moved past MB for the technique but wish I kept the Valkyrie. Killer rod.
  10. I have not fished the whipsnake but the Valkyrie is not heavy at all. I fished braid and I think it could do some finesse work as well. I have never fished a rod that was like it. Super unique. You have to fish it to know what I mean. Bends pretty deep into the blank too when you hook a good one. Would be a great topwater stick too.
  11. My favorite action and power of all the rod options- grubs, drop shot, jerkbaits, smaller cranks, worms, topwater, shakeyhead, wacky rig, fluke, and on and on.
  12. 2500-3000 here. I would only go 4000 if you are doing a lot of SW inshore fishing.
  13. Daiwa tatula with a discount or sale.
  14. spinnerbaits, paddle tails, topwater plugs, worms, jigs, swim jig, plastics.
  15. Not sure what I think of the casting and spinning reels yet but glad to see some new options hit the market. I thought I saw somewhere these are made where quantum reels are but cant confirm. Might try a spinning reel and see how they hold up. Wish someone would make reels state side. Designed and manufactured.
  16. That is sweet. Good choice on the shield too! Love how thin and comfortable those pistols are.
  17. I bought a 3000 Miravel and love it. Works great. Use for fresh water and inshore. For the price its a great reel.
  18. 2500 or 3000 would be perfect. BG probably felt heavy since its a HD saltwater reel. If it was mine I do a 2500 Shimano. Sounds like you have nicer friends than mine
