  1. Thanks for the info. Its a cheap Cabelas ZX reel, but I think I saved it.
  2. Hello DVT, are clutch bar plates supposed to be fixed to the reel? I have a Cabelas reel where the left plate is very loose and causing problems when engaging the reel. I super glued it down months ago, but it's back loose again. Also, would a drop oil on this plate be beneficial once its secured? Thanks, Chris
  3. emjaysmit, I can't agree with you more. I was fishing a month ago and grabbed my friend's 7'MH Ugly Stik(which felt like a weighted broom stick) and had no problems detecting a bite.
  4. Bluebasser, I've been eyeballing this same rod for some time now. Closest Academy is 80 miles away though. Its looks very well built. Does this one ever go on sale? http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress-ethos-nano-casting-rod?repChildCatid=997234
  5. I am assuming he means the green reels that came out in about 2011 or so.
  6. $50 is a steal for the Extreme! BPS needs to cut the fat on the PQ and offer it again with Duralumin shaft and drive gear. Maybe add the Carbonlite handle and there you have a 6.5oz reel.
  7. I prefer to use this Extreme it's feather light and fun to fish with: http://answers.basspro.com/answers/2010/product/1302070545221/bass-pro-shops-bass-pro-shops-extreme-light-baitcast-reel-questions-answers/questions.htm?cm_ven=bazaarvoice&cm_cat=QA_PSVP&cm_pla=1302070545221&cm_ite=image_link
  8. The green Extremes from a couple yrs back? I have no problems with mine and they are very small and compact. Wouldn't pay the retail $89 for one though.
  9. What's cheap? I try to stay around $100 for rods. Berkley Emotion, ***, Halo rods..
  10. I like AbrazX for t-rigging and get it online from Walmart for $17.99 / spool for 12#. Free ship-to-store you can't beat it.
  11. Which Laguna is it? The silver one or the new black ones?
  12. Well Seaguar Red Label handles the best IMO for that price range. I've been using it on one of my setups all year. However, it does fray easier and wouldn't recommend it for bottom contact lures unless you have a clean bottom.
  13. Evan, I haven't either at least not at the reel seat. I balance my rods at the trigger beforehand and it doesn't matter what reel I put on the rod. Of course, I hold the rod where the trigger splits my ring finger and middle finger.
  14. I agree.. maybe a Tournament Lite
  15. I agree with the rod being more important unless the reel is total junk. Line plays a part too.
  16. Don't make the mistake that I did and try to start with the cheap fluoro. It will leave a bad taste in your mouth....cough"Vanish"
  17. If the rod is balanced prior to the reel being attached then it shouldn't matter really.
  18. Seems like when I'm all hunkered over in the tight quarters of a kayak the handle/butt of the rod gets in the way more. Once you get into the 7' rods and longer then the handles just get longer. This is my experience.
  19. Sounds like your are trying to justify buying another reel Back in the day (90s) jig fishing could be done with a 5:1 reel. They keep getting faster and faster and faster.
  20. 6'6" rods with shorter handles is what I prefer.
  21. Duh, you said "white"...my mistake
  22. Is it the white one? I've handled that combo in the store. I don't think you can go wrong for $50, but I wouldn't probably pay more than that.
  23. With the Duckett reel it seems like you don't get a whole bunch for $250. And I wouldn't spend $500 on the Abu...EVER.
  24. These are good "trunk rods" and they are super light. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Berkley-AMP-Baitcasting-Rod-70-Medium&i=911915
  25. I started on cheap Bass Pro reels by watching Youtube videos about cleaning & supertuning. I would be hesitant to start the learning process on a nice Abu Mgx.
