  1. The Red Eye Shad, and nothing else comes close for me.
  2. BassTrakk keeps getting better for my guys. 3 in the top 4 now.
  3. "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I joined this forum as a wildly enthusiastic young kid who had zero knowledge about bass fishing and even fewer lures in my tacklebox. My first ten or so fishing trips were spent fishing with every single lure and soft plastic bait I owned. I would just cycle through them and tie on another when I felt like changing things up. Didn't take too long to go through them all, because I had about 4 hard baits and a couple bags of plastics. Joining Bass Resource introduced me to an extraordinary amount of information. I learned so much from each and every member on here. I gathered an incredible amount about fishing, but I also learned how to behave on a public forum and so many of you showed me a lot of grace, despite many moments of rash and immature speech. One of the things that will always stand out to me about you guys is your generosity. Over the years, I've received over a thousand dollars worth of fishing tackle from the members of BR. I don't think I'm exaggerating that number. I've been sent reels, a decent chunk of a previous Tackle Warehouse Ike Miaconelli giveaway prize package, line, and countless hard baits, jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, soft plastics, and terminal tackle. My parents were blown away when they saw me open some of the packages. They aren't well off and never had the money to buy me tackle themselves, and for them to see the generosity of strangers on the internet was incredible. For me, it was like being a kid in a candy shop. I had so many new things to try and your gifts gave me the chance to try techniques, lures, and styles of fishing that I would have never spent the money to try on my own. Most of that took place about two years ago. I couldn't even begin to name everyone who's reached out in that regard, because I wouldn't want to leave anyone out. But since then, I've come to a place as an angler and a human being where I no longer need or desire free stuff. Not only have I found the brands and styles of baits that I like to fish with, I also know there are people who can use things far more than I can. For the last two years, I've been wanting to do something similar to what everyone did for me. I accumulated a ton of tackle. I found myself fishing with less than a quarter of the tackle that I owned; the rest was just sitting on shelves, gathering dust. That had to change. A few weeks ago, I compiled a large assortment of baits and was able to get in touch with a guy I know who runs a local tackle shop. He was fixing some equipment for me, and was more than willing to help out when I talked to him. He helps run a kids tournament every year on a local lake in NC, and he's going to be giving the kids my tackle as part of that tournament. Some of that tackle is more than likely from some of you guys who sent it to me originally. I highlight this not to promote personal generosity, but to say to each and every person who has given me information and tackle and wisdom over my years on here: you have given a gift that keeps on giving. Many thanks. Kyle P.S. Here are a couple fish I've caught on baits y'all have given to me.
  4. I know some of the guys with 0 fish have some in their livewell, coverage is poor out there. Also, look how stacked the weights are. I don't pay close attention to it but this is one of the closest stacked tourneys I've seen for a while. One 5 pounder - of which there are many out there - could launch someone over 30 places in the standings.
  5. Jacob Wheeler and Hite now both unofficially in first and second!!!!
  6. A. Wheeler B. KVD C: Hite D. Palaniuk E: Lane I think Ott Defoe is going to be on my roster for every single other event of this season. I'm not sure why I didn't pick him. Overall, my guys are going decently right now on BassTrakk, although I really wish I had gone with Zaldain or Benton instead of Chris Lane. A lot better than some previous tournaments. I picked guys that had good track records; and tried to keep momentum in mind. Although, Chris Lane was obviously an exception to that. I wanted to pick Combs, but just didn't like his first couple events since he's been on my roster both times since Okeechobee and flopped. Seems like the bucket E choice is going to be the difference maker for this tournament. I chose poorly, it would seem. However, one day can really turn you around for this tournament. The ten pounders are out there. Also, I just learned that Brett Hite is unofficially in the lead so that makes me really happy!!!! I knew the conditions this week would set up well for him.
  7. Nice work Dwight and Jeff - I dig the beard too
  8. The jig is hands down my all-round bread and butter bait. I can't remember a fishing trip in the last 4 months where I haven't used it. I don't claim to be an expert, but there are lots of us who are jig addicts and I've certainly brought in some toads on them. Now just wait till your first jig tackle order. You can ask @kickerfish1 about those
  9. If we're talking Carolina rig, y'all better watch out for Mark Davis. I ain't on no dock bro ?
  10. I asked @Catt the same question two years in a row about when the Elites will visit Toledo and he always points me to the thread without giving me a direct answer haha! Someone else in the thread told me offshore. Based on the research I've done, I think we'll see guys doing everything. We're talking about Toledo Bend here. You can pick up almost any bait, find some productive water for it, and catch fish. I think we will see some shallow flippers, some people will be throwing chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, some people will be killing them on frogs and buzzbaits, and some people will head offshore to throw football jigs, carolina rigs, and deep cranks. Remember how everyone said at Lake Conroe that there was no way the shallow guys could hold together a winning pattern? All the top 5 on Sunday except Jordan Lee were up on the shallow end of the lake doing their own thing. Point is; don't listen to dock talk. Find people who are doing well and they'll probably find their own deal on the Bend. It's a huge lake. I'm not sure about the whole spawn situation; there will probably be fish in all three stages of spawning. I would imagine a lot of fish have made beds already. If you'd like to get a feel for the lake, Bassmaster's YouTube channel has the episodes from the last two times they visited Toledo. As well, Texas Team Trail has some great videos from their tournaments on the lake.
  11. I've seen nothing too special; couple of black bears, a moose, etc...one time my mom saw a wolverine on a late night car trip. I was sleeping when it crossed in front of the car and was always ticked that I didn't get to see it.
  12. If you watch any videos of open anglers, or Texas bass team trail tournaments, you'll recognize that these reels are still used and loved by anglers all across the country. I have two of them and they're absolute workhorses.
  13. Ebay might have some but I couldn't find any in a quick search.
  14. There's only one bait I don't like from the Rage Tail series, and that's the smokin' rooster. Everything else has been a winner. Although, to be fair, I haven't tried the small buzzing topwater one. My two favorites are the Rage Craw and the Cut'R worm.
  15. There are some pros on the elite series that have made a living doing a lot of different things. And then, you have some guys who have made a living doing one or two things very well. You can see that with Hank Cherry and a jerkbait, Dean Rojas with a frog and flipping stick, Todd Faircloth finding submerged vegetation and grass lines, and Greg Hackney flipping a jig, among others. Andy Montgomery is among those people - if he can catch fishing with a swim jig or skipping a jig under a dock, he'll be doing it. That's just who he is.
  16. 60% for me. This year has been awful.
  17. Hmm...*opens freezer* yeah I got 10-15 sitting here, lemme mail you a frozen 5lb. bass I'm kidding lol, hope you find what you're looking for.
  18. @Ersteman @jtharris3 Bassmaster put out this video today (mods let me know if posting this isn't allowed, thanks).
  19. This last part is so true - and that's why I use braid for my jig fishing.
  20. Screw you guys and your nice walmarts
  21. I had some spare time today and did some extended research, and was pleased to see that the research backed up most of my original gut picks. I did end up changing my D bucket for an angler that has done exceptionally well all three or four of the past times they've been to Toledo. Bye bye Cliff . Bucket B is proving to be the one I'm not certain about...I think the other buckets are good to go for the most part. Kevin Van Dam is the obvious pick; but there's also Edwin Evers, Dean Rojas, Alton Jones, Keith Combs, Casey Ashley, Mark Davis, and Todd Faircloth. I feel all of those guys will do really well here. Decisions, decisions... I'm also really curious to see how David Fritts does here - he has had a fantastic start on the Elite series and the Bend sets up well for him.
  22. Talking about Wesley Strader? I do know that Evinrude brought a maintenance trailer to the Classic just for him; maybe they had to leave on day two or something. I have no idea.
  23. That is very true. I like his momentum coming into this - that said, I looked at the previous results for Toledo and JVD has done exceptionally well for a smallmouth guy. I may end up picking him instead, he seems to like this lake.
  24. Cotton Cordell Super Spots can be purchased for like $3 at Walmarts and they're a heck of a lipless crankbait. I'd recommend the Red Eye Shad though - hard to beat that lure.
  25. Research has killed me this year lol! I would have been better off picking people with my eyes closed. This next event I'm going more with people who are showing some sort of momentum this year, are good with postspawn fish, can fish offshore, and go shallow if needed. Except I chose Cliff Crochet in bucket D because he's been on a roll and Toledo has enough shallow cover for him to fish for miles to his heart's content.
