  1. Interesting. Do you think a reaction bait like a crankbait would change that pattern or perhaps trigger the vicious feeding tear?
  2. I also really like the rubberized cork or the cork + eva or even just a little cork on the end of a otherwise EVA rod like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Quantum-KVD-Baitcast-Combo/22172335. The Browning Medallion is one of my favorite looking rods, with a red blank and the rubberized cork split grips. I like split grips much better than full.
  3. Oh man. Never a weight someone tells you unless it's someone you know and they have a scale. They will exaggerate the snot out of any fish. A 2 1/2 pounder becomes a 4 pounder, ect. ect. Of course, I was guilty of this prior to getting a scale.
  4. Nice job, man. I'm getting a baitcaster soon. Looking forward to it.
  5. Just curious, where'd the "hootie" come from? Is that your nickname?
  6. Do you prefer cork or EVA grips on your rods? I like the classic cork look just fine, but the newer EVA look is pretty slick. That said, I'd prefer cork on a G. Loomis or a custom rod.
  7. Thought so. Just wondering
  8. Love the cork.
  9. Caught a fish on it too!
  10. Wow. Thanks for the info. I took some of your advice to the pond yesterday. Still have yet to catch one on a jig, but I'm not intimidated by them anymore .
  11. Hey guys, Caught my first fish on my first buzzbait today. Got it in the mail this afternoon and took it down to the pond. The explosion wasn't too epic, but it was fun. I have a new favorite.
  12. "Better bass fishing" by Robert Montgomery practically taught me to fish.
  13. I saw Jared Litner catch a 10 pund carp on a squarebill in a recent video. Apparently they'll eat anything, although I haven't experienced that.
  14. Too bad you caught her in practice.....here's betting she didn't bite again during the tourney
  15. Another case of "I don't have a scale, but this bass looks to be...." Next time try at least taking a tape measure and getting the girth. Bass Resource has a free weight calculator (under "tools") that should give you a reasonable estimate. BTW, you can get a mechanical scale for like 3 bucks. My guess? 3-4 pounds. Maybe 4 1/2. Nice fish, man.
  16. Great cap to a great season. Nice work.
  17. Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity is key. At least for bank fishing. All of my bass so far have come from a small backpack with two plano boxes of hard bait, three or four soft plastic packs, some hooks & weights, and a spinning rod. I'm currently purchasing a baitcaster, so that will be added to my arsenal, but I really don't foresee me getting too much more tackle except an occasional splurge on tacklewarehouse and stuff I need to replace.
  18. Not a swimbait person, but Spro hooks should hold up. Unless, that is, you want hooks sharp enough to do open-heart surgery with.
  19. Does anyone know of a kayak under 100 that won't sink when launched?
  20. Good luck on your business!
  21. Just ordered my first buzz, should be getting here this weekend. Thanks for the tips.
  22. Ditto with J Francho A morning topwater bite, with a nice sunrise, no mosquitos, and chunky bass. Dream on...
  23. Leaves and dead weeds are cover, however sparse. 100% positive there is some more cover, you're just not seeing it. Try dragging a Carolina Rig or a jig across the bottom and see if you can find a stick or a rock or something. Like the others said, structure is equally important. A small dip or hump in the pond's bottom might hold some fish.
  24. I don't really fish anywhere where you could catch a big bass. One of my ponds is rumored to have a 7-8 pounder in it, but it is a very small pond and high, highly pressured. Not that I wouldn't mind catching her . Thanks for the tips.
  25. Put the Daiwa Exceler 100 w/ 6:3:1 for $60.00 and I'll buy it.
