  1. Ha! if that is a dink then the fish I am catching are microdinks.lol That fish in that above pic is a beast!! If I caught a fish like that I think i could die a happy man.lol For now I would be more than happy catching that dink
  2. I feel the same way! I don't discriminate.lol I catch plenty of small bass, yellow perch ect..I use an ultra lite set up and I have a blast. I really don't care what I catch to be honest, I enjoy every fish I catch. But yeah, they tear up my spoons as well. And themselves in the process. That is why I love catching them because of the way they strike and fight! Last time I caught them I saw a flash right before they hit my spoon and they hit that sucker like they were shot out of a cannon. And the last one I caught jumped out of the water like a bass shaking my hook. I never seen one do that before so it was really cool
  3. I brought an extra pole with me yesterday and tried catching carp for the first time. I used canned sweet corn but nothing. I was not there long but it is only a matter of time before I catch one. They are all over this lake and I am going to set up a pole each time I go from now on.
  4. I am a master of going fishing and catching nothing. I don't let it mess with my confidence though because it is going to happen. I always feel like no matter what, I can learn something each time I fish. And some times catching nothing one day is part of why you have success the next time. One thing I have learned from my fishing experience is, catching fish is not easy. At least for me it is not. But I learn from it and walk away a better fisherman for it I think.
  5. For me at my fav spot it is just the opposite. I really enjoy catching pickerel and actually started a thread about it in another section. I catch them on occasion. It seems like when I catch one I will catch severeal, but I have not landed any since Aug. The bass on the other hand I can catch regularly. And I have caught bass and pickerel within minutes of each other in the same exact spot just as a fyi for the OP.
  6. Thanks for the tip on those. I have some spinners which I admit I rarely use but no superflukes. Don't think I have ever tried them and was just checking them out and I want to pick up a pack and maybe give them a go this weekend.
  7. That is a nice fish bro! I wish they would annoy me some time
  8. For some reason any time I talk to other fisherman ect..they never ever say they are actually fishing for pickerel. I don't know if it is because just about every one of them seem to be fishing for fish to catch and eat and pickerel are not good eating fish or what? I catch and release and only fish for sport so I just try and catch whatever. But pickerel just don't seem to get any love. This past summer one of my favorite spots has some really nice size pickerel in it. Last month another regular who fishes at one lake I go to pulled out a really big one. It was around 7pm and it was easily 2+ feet. biggest one I have ever seen caught in person. He wouldn't even unhook it. said " I don't like those things " lol I have caught quite a few decent sized ones myself. I find them to be one of my fav fish to catch. The way they strike the lure is not like any other fish I normally catch. They usually hit my lures so hard when I get them in, their mouth is tore up. And they put up a heck of a fight. I have not caught any since early August I would say. I am fishing with spoons 99% of the time right now and fishing mainly evenings since it turned to fall. Any of you guys/gals fish for pickerel and if so what do you find work best for you? Time of day, time of year, lures/bait ect..Any tips/advice are appreciated.
  9. That is exactly what I did. I went to the fish&wildlife site and they show you where the spots are. Just found a new spot last night on there in fact I am looking to try. Another fisherman or fisher lady I should say said its a great little spot. And I use the same setup pretty much. ultra lite tackle and small spoons. kastmaster, cleo's ect..basically any small spoons.
  10. Lots of great info in here. I have never really considered carp fishing. The few times I caught them I snagged them. One place I fish often has some really big crap in it. They are constantly jumping out of the water right around the shore where I fish. I figure next time I go I will try some of the suggested methods on here and just leave a spare pole set up to see if I can get one. That would be fun to land one of those big suckers. A guy I talk to who fishes there said he caught a 12lb carp there. Hopefully I can land one too
  11. Thanks for the welcome fellas!
  12. My name is Sean and I just stumbled across this place reading an article and I employed some of the info from the article and I caught fish I love to fish obviously and at this point I mainly use ultra lite tackle. I am not afraid of catching a fish too big for my set up because I never catch big fish.lol I never fished with spoons until this summer. I was having no luck and it was one of those I just grabbed something out of my tackle box because I was frustrated and nothing was working for me. On my first cast with a small Colorado spoon I caught a bass. It was eye opening for me and I have been trying and experimenting with different spoons since. In fact spoons are all I use at this point. I love them and I have success with them and I just want to try and master using them the best I can. I fish as often as I can. Usually a couple times a week minimum or I start to lose it. I gotta get out there and fish no matter what. Look forward to learning from others and sharing some of my rare days when I do well.
