Back in June, my fiancé and I picked up a season pass for hiking in the nature center on the weekends. I also checked out the lakes in Area III out of curiosity. After seeing the action (slow as it was) I decided it would be a good idea to end my 12 year bass fishing hiatus.
I try to make it to Paddle Boat Lake every Wednesday afternoon. I've had the most luck finessing soft plastics. A small spinner/swimbait combo worked well until it didn't. I also got strikes on small rapalas, and a strike on a tiny torpedo after sunset.
Even when the skunk prevails, it's sometimes worth stopping by just to see the wild birds and to watch the lake boil with shad and flying bass. If noting else, this is a beautiful place to fish!
