  1. try a 3/4-1 oz Jika rig. That thing will drill through anything as long as you keep your plastics compact
  2. NEVER!!! Probably, though, if I'm honest, but NEVER!!!
  3. http://tackletour.com/reviewdaiwatatularod.html
  4. read the tackletour review on that exact rod.
  5. wrong forum, but TATULA!!!
  6. right, well a spinbait is considered a finesse bait, but the lightest one of those is 9 grams. I'm trying to get away from my spinning rod altogether.
  7. actually I love it for deep cranks, too. Throw a reel with some lighter line on there and give it a shot. You may be pleasantly surprised, too.
  8. You'll be froggin' it up right, now! Bet that would make a good c rig and light swimbait rod. Maybe some flippin, too. I have the 7'6" flippin stick and it covers all those bases nicely. Except swimbaits. I don't use those.
  9. i love those tubes. Never seen them stapled or whatever, but they protect better than anything when used correctly. Bass pro and TW always uses them. Amazon has started , too after a complaint or two from me about the shattered pile of carbon fibers that used to be a rod because of the crappy cardboard box shipping method. Anyway, I put one inside my bazooka rod carrier to bolster its strength. y'all beat me to the chainsaw comment, lol
  10. the Daiwa zillion 6-6 and 7' medium jig rods are rated 1/8-5/8 and are extra fast, which is what rules them out for me.
  11. I don't think my sv1000 spool is THAT shallow. There is enough line on there that I don't see any issues casting it to the backing. Close, though. I haven't gotten a chance to put it through its paces yet.
  12. That's exactly what I want to do. The lighter the better for light baits. So if 20# braid is lighter in mass than 6# fluoro, then that's the logical choice. I'll be using 6# dia. (8# test) invizx leaders with it.
  13. if it's a casting reel, the line could be contacting the thumb bar or something. If it's a Plymouth, you're SOL.
  14. that said, I have taken to sometimes using a ringed hook for my t rigs for more action, and if you tie to a snap you can swap baits easily the way you would a crank or something.
  15. I fish mine a variety of ways. Sometimes 3/8-1/2 oz with a rage craw hopping, dragging, and dead sticking like a jig, sometimes punching through grass with a 3/4-1 oz, sometimes swimming it around with a paddle tail shad, sometimes with 1/8th oz and a roboworm like a dropshot. They are very versatile and effective. They slip through grass easily, they rarely get snagged, and they cast further than most rigs. They aren't a t rig replacement though. It just depends on the bottom, structure, and mood of the fish. Sometimes the bait chasing the sinker down is the only way to trigger a strike, but sometimes it's the subtle dance of a jika on the bottom and in between rocks that triggers one.
  16. casting or spinning?
  17. 10# is the lightest I'd ever even use on a spinning reel.
  18. right , 20# is the lower limit of what I'd use on any baitcaster.
  19. I find braid of an appropriate diameter tied with a uni-uni knot to either mono or fluoro of equal diameter to be the simplest and best performing setup. So if your rod is rated for 10-20 lb line, using 50 lb braid and a 15lb leader would be optimal. 12-17 lb leaders would work very well.
  20. yeah, I think so. You'll get more versatility out of it.
  21. also, a faster ratio is good for keeping fish away from structure on short lines but not as effective at playing a fish in open water.
  22. Yeah, that's not a bad price. Msrp is 199. It's a great reel. I have that on my flippin stick. The differences are the type r has a 90mm handle, whereas the HD has a 100mm and more leverage. The HD spool is a little heavier and deeper, so it will hold more heavy line. The fastest ratio available in the HD is 7.3:1, which is probably as fast as you'll want when fighting big fish. Really, I'd stick with the 6.3:1 myself for more power. The reason I got the 8.1:1 was to take up slack as fast as possible to get a solid hook set when flipping or c rigging. It wouldn't be that great to use with cranks or any high resistance baits, but excels with jigs and other contact baits.
  23. Hopefully the softer action will make up for that. My mh reg fishes jigs etc just the way I want it to. Plus its hard to find a true ml casting rod.
  24. yeah, but I don't know how far that thing will cast a heavier crank or spoon yet, so I just filled it up with 20#
  25. I think it started with mine before I ever tore it down. I don't remember. The other lexa I have has had the same amount of maintenance and upgrades and I used the same ardent grease and it's still smooth. It has gotten less use, though.
