  1. "Noonan!...Miss it!...Miss it!...Noonan!" "Mrs. Havecamp...Mrs. Havecamp, your ball is over here...No, aim over there...Mrs. Havecamp." "Do you take drugs Bobby?" "It's Danny" "Sorry, Danny" "Yes, every day" "Good"
  2. I only enjoy playing golf if I can dedicate enough time to practice between rounds. Nothing worse than trying to learn something while also playing a round, except playing behind someone who is doing that. As much as I complain about a lack of etiquette from other fisherman here in Southern California, it is worse on the golf course. At least in fishing, you can get away from a jerk; with golf on crowded courses, you are forced to follow them around (or vice versa) for 3-4 hours.
  3. That seems to be the historical pattern. As a teen, I remember the California drought in the mid 70's being written up in BassMaster magazine and my parents dock on Canyon Lake (Railroad Canyon Reservoir) being almost completely out of the water. The following winter, it rained so much that by February, water was flowing over the top of the dam & you couldn't reach some homes because there was water over the top of the causeways.
  4. My mouth dropped after Ike weighed in. From 1st to 12th just like that, a drop of 46 points - I bet that cost someone a $3000 BPS gift card. If Ike didn't have 55 bonus points (40 for big bag, 15 for leading 3 days), he wouldn't have been high man in his bucket (Remnitz had 290 points, Ike with his bonus had 309). I just looked and the scores have been updated. Ikes drop combined with Reese, Remnitz & Ehrler moving up put me in 219th place with 2213 points (99.3 percentile). I am guessing with your picks you should be either slightly ahead or just about tied with me. Good luck the rest of the way.
  5. I believe Yale Loop Lake is only for residents of Woodbridge or Irvine. If you are going to gamble being cited for trespassing by fishing somewhere you shouldn't, Oso Resevoir would be a more intriguing choice. Nearly no fishing pressure and more escape routes from the authorities... . Just wear a Boy Scout uniform to fool the nearby residents.
  6. He looks to be about 12 inches long, a typical male for this lake and about the same size of the male that was there last month. The first male was a bit more timid, he would spook completely off the bed and go under the next dock over if anyone approached. This male will turn & look at you, back up slightly, but never veer much off the nest.
  7. Some late spawners appear to have moved up, because there was a male on that nest that had been abandoned a month ago. I have no idea if it is the same fish as before, there was nothing unusual about this fish. Surface temps of the lake are over 70 degrees, I'm not sure if this guy will have any luck trying to get a female up to his love shack. Not only did this fish move up later than nearly everyone else, he also waited a week after the last full moon. I looked closely at him & he wasn't wearing a wrist watch, so that may explain his tardiness. Or he may be related to my brother-in-law, he is always late for everything...
  8. I think it was Doug Hannon who documented bass doing this prior to becoming more active & feeding.
  9. When you catch the fish, lay it on the floor of the boat (or on the shore) & set a TV remote control next to it. If the fish grabs the remote and starts pressing the CH+ button, it is a male. If the fish asks you to change the channel because it would like to watch "Dancing with the Stars", it is a female.
  10. I thought "Avatar" had a similar plot hole. They fly to a distant planet, live in a hostile environment, are able to sync humans with avatars to interact with the natives, but when it comes to getting minerals out of the ground, they still have to destroy the environment. Couldn't they have invented some way to suck the Unobtanium out of the ground without disturbing anything else?
  11. Prior to the tournament, that lineup looked impressive. After day 2, it was ouch, darn, I don't understand? and 2 good performances. I messed up, I had Bobby Lane in Bucket E, but then made a gut decision to change & go for a dark horse in Roumbanis...
  12. Reese is in Bucket C, I know because I have him. My picks are: A - Jordan Lee B - Derek Remnitz C - Skeet Reese D - Brent Ehrler E - Boom Boom Roumbanis With my E pick, I believe I am mathematically eliminated from winning the this event. For my overall points, it will help if Jordan Lee once again comes through with a big day 3, Remnitz can pass Ike and Ehler stay ahead of B. Hite. I am stoked that right now I am in 208th for the season, which is in the 99th percentile. That means there must be over 20,000 entries, although I bet a couple thousand have already been forgotten about by their owners
  13. I was okay with it, didn't dislike it but wasn't hoping there would be a sequel when it was over. My wife was totally lost watching it, she was making the same face she used to make when we would watch X-Files together.
  14. We have 2 of them on my 100 acre home lake. We don't have any shad, the smaller fish are just minnows & juvenile sunfish, bass, catfish & carp. I am assuming these smaller fish are what they are feeding on. My question revolves around my home lake being catch & release only. I know on smaller bodies of water that the best management is to harvest some of the smaller fish. Since fishermen aren't allowed to do that on my lake, would a couple of cormorants actually be helpful in this harvesting? If not, any suggestions on legal things a fisherman can do to make a cormorant want to leave?
  15. X2 I used to lose 4" Senko's off the O-ring until I realized the rings I were using were designed for the larger worms. I moved down a size and now routinely catch over 10 fish before the worm is too chewed up to keep using (& into the Mend-it later bag they go). In fact, I lose more Senko's to snags under docks that I can't get to than to fish pulling the worm off. Usually when fighting a fish, the Senko just slides right up the line. If your hookup ratio is low, it may be the hook you are using. I like the Owner wacky rigged hooks, they are actually similar to circle hooks. Rare are the times I get a strike & don't hook up and a portion of those may be bluegill tugging on one side of the worm.
  16. Run a crankbait or jerkbait, something with multiple treble hooks, into the top of their head, that is the only way I have ever caught a carp on an artificial lure.
  17. Where did I ever write that disagreeing with someone equates to belittling? One person's "good natured ribbing" may be another persons "belittling", especially when tone is difficult to discern. Face to face, such comments may include a big smile or pat on the back, but online, they just come across as words, intent dependent on the reader. I would think that also applies to ones attitude, which could easily be misconstrued by the reader due to normal biases or preconceived notions. My mentioning of the other thread wasn't to call you out, it was just the recognition of an apparent inconsistency of your opinion as to how much importance lure selection has to do with fishing. My deepest apologies if you took it in a way that wasn't intended.
  18. Being it is a pond that you are fishing, you may want to downsize to the smaller spook or even the the zara puppy. The puppy is definitely easier to throw on a spinning rod. Most important is kikstands description of setting the hook. Without the wait, you will be pulling the lure out of their mouth. Also, after a missed strike, keep the same cadence & give the fish another chance at it. Rare are the times that a fish doesn't whack a spook a second time.
  19. If Moses came down with the Ten Commandments, lay down in a bathtub full of water blessed by a priest and stayed there until slime grew on his body, would he be known as "Holy Mosses"?
  20. If there is anyone within earshot, it is "Fudge Nickels". If not, then the less euphemistic alternative.
  21. I wrote that I want to throw the most effective lure that is the least popular. I don't believe a bobber qualifies as an effective lure, at least for me. If it does for you, you missed your calling. On a different thread, you belittled people who used Senko's in tournaments and insinuated that these anglers had few skills. It appeared you were saying they may not catch anything if it wasn't for that particularly effective & easy to use lure. Now you seemingly contradict yourself by saying what is thrown rarely has anything to do with it. That doesn't seem very consistent. I would strongly disagree that what is thrown rarely has anything to do with it, as would anyone who has ever had a particular crankbait outproduce other models on the same group of fish.
  22. Wife & Dog went fishing with you? I am so jealous!! I would love to take my dog along, but know that it would be a complete nightmare. He is 105 lbs of smart but stubborn Anatolian Shepherd with the instinct that he must absolutely know what is going on & be in complete control. Add in the fact that he is a klutz would result in chaos and not much fishing getting done. Plus he is a food wh**e, so he would most likely try to eat anything I caught. Still, it would be interesting to have him along ...
  23. Agreed. While I contend that California takes too much blame for usage of the existing water, I conversely would argue that California doesn't receive enough blame for not solving the problem. Special interest groups in the state have blocked (or at least created hardships to create) new reservoirs & desalinization plants. California has the ability to not only solve its water shortage issues, but also help out neighboring landlocked states. To not do that is not only selfish, it is destructive. This is not a political forum, however one only needs to look at the politics of California over the past 40 years to illuminate the reason for its failed water policies. Governor Brown made nearly the same speech about cutting back on water back in his first term 30 years ago that he made last week and very little has been done in the interim.
  24. This may sound counter-intuitive, but I don't want the bait that is easiest yo walk, I want the one that requires some skill & practice. If everyone & their brother can use a particular lure, I would expect the fish would see alot of them. I want to use the most effective bait that is the least popular.
