  1. Keep it. Use it. They are very nice reels. You may find, over time, that a low pro like the Curado 70 or chronarch mgl is lighter and more comfortable to use for some other presentations. Once you throw a weightless plastic on a chronarch mgl you’ll Know what I mean. My Calcutta, though it can do anything, suites me best for moving baits.
  2. I had a bunch of high my end rods damaged at one point and switched back to bps rods for uniformality and cost reduction. It has never effected anything regards for catching fish. Btw, old bass pro extremes were some of my favorite rods ever. Also, some the my most memorable and productive fishing days were with some of the mid grade rods. I still like my chronarchs though.
  3. Thank you for the advice! Would 90 dollars for a reel be of decent enough quality to last? ( I have been looking at an Orvis Clearwater). In your experience, what are the advantages of a machined vs cast reels in terms of lifespan? Also, would you have any favorite or recommended Rods in the 150 to 200 range? Thank you. I will research both of these suggestions!
  4. First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum... or if fly fishing is a forgotten method of bass fishing....I’ve been learning to fly fish for trout and small bass here in north GA. I’ve fallen in love with this style of fishing. I’m looking to upgrade from the starter combo (Cabela’s 5w bighorn), to a more substantial and more durable outfit. Are there any fly fisherman out there that can point me to a decent setup under $250? Looking for a machined reel and decent rod in a 5 to 6w for trout and bass that is well built and will last. I will probably end up purchasing an 8w combo as well for larger bass and inshore species in the same models and brands based on recommendations. are there any experts in this area? If so, what are your advice on quality rods and reels?
  5. Some ambassaduers/ lightning rods could do. But otherwise..dude don’t sweat it. You won’t loose your stuff Buy a couple of versatile and good quality setups. Use them to pond hop, and kayak. Enjoy them, take care of them and don’t look back. Have fun. The more you spend (to a point) will cover all your bases and you’ll be happy. 2 setups should do you... three if you really wanna lug around gear
  6. Hey. Hopefully I’m posting this in the correct forum. Looking for a casting outfit to fish for trout up here in the north Georgia rivers and streams. I own own a bunch of curado 70s and would hate to buy another reel. Would this reel suffice? And if so, maybe a rod recommendation? If not, what spinning combo would you buy in the 100 dollar range? Thanks for any input in advance.
  7. For the peacocks, shiners on the smaller side are the best best. If you are set on using artificials, I like the small floating rapalas, the small skitter props and even the 1/8 ounce rattle traps. I think the peacocks are fun to catch on spinning gear. 7 ft med fast is a good choice. You can catch them from most residential canals or small lakes. Look for underwater drop offs, docks, bridges, culverts or anytime type of wall dipping into the water. Cast and retrieve quickly from the shore towards your self. For the largemouth, you’ll catch them in the same places. My favorite bait is the 4 to 5 inch senko. In Junebug for dark water, Watermelon for clear water. I also like the t rigged worm of almost any type. Same colors. Flukes are good too. You can use the same rod, but I personally use a 7 ft mhf with braid/Floro leader. On the canals down there I like to fish the intersections for largemouth. use google earth and you will find no shortage of places you can fish the banks. Pretty much all fresh bodies of water will have both types of bass in them. The peacocks are more active in warm weather. The canals in the glades start to fill up with bass during the winter. You wouldn’t need a boat to fish them. But you can rent John boats at holiday park. I’ve had many 30+ bass days out there in the winter. Good luck
  8. Thank you gentlemen. I’ll check those out. It’s sucks not having a boat but I’ll try and make do. I remember south Florida having tons of places I could fish from the bank. What type of artificials are people using up here to Catch largemouth?
  9. Just moved to the canton/cumming, Georgia area from south Florida and was looking for some bass fishing spots I could access from the bank. Does any one know of any. Small lakes or large ponds are preferable. Thanks in advance for advice/recommendations
  10. They are good rods. I really like the grip on the new ones. ive never had anything go wrong with my bass pro rods.
  11. After watching the vid... Unless the side switch was broken trying to force it.... It doesn't add up to me. I'd be curious to know what was actually wrong with it... If you decide not to trade it up, let us know what the culprit was. A broken latch? I've owned many of these reels and have broken all them down to the frames and have never seen anything like this
  12. This was my first casting reel. They are of decent build quality. Mine is long retired and looks a little beat up... but it still works.
  13. All of mine are the exact same way. It's a design characteristic of the i and the k series. The tension knob has to be loosened, then click the spool closed... Then you need to retighten the cast control knob. I fumbled around with this when I was new to these reels too. But after a couple of times you'll get used to it. Not a big deal. Unless of course you broke it lol. Which I'm sure you didn't.
  14. Good all around crankbait rod. More parabolic than the mojo. I've not used dobyns. But the 845 Cbr is miles away from the mojo spinnerbait rod for all around crankbait fishing
  15. the deepest I usually go is 8 ft where I live. But I will some times throw deeper if I'm fishing sandy bottom. I throw a TON of lipless baits from 1/4 to 3/4 ounce and a lot of squarebills as well. I initially replaced the mojo spinnerbait rod with an Ike Series 7'3" medium moderate fast. I saw it as a vast improvement in both casting distance and landing ratio. It's got a whippy tip being a composite rod, but it's designed for ripping lipless baits through grass so it's got some backbone to fish deeper diving baits. i also use an 845 Cbr e6x which I like as well, but they are getting high on the price scale for me.
