  1. Shhh! It is a secret.
  2. Bwahahahaha! Best comment I have received to date.
  3. Depending on your meaning for traditional this isn't exactly true. Pink "originally" didn't have any gender ties. It was in the early 1900's that people started associating colors with genders. At that point they were pushing blue for girls and pink for boys. Here is a link that discusses it: http://www.npr.org/2014/04/01/297159948/girls-are-taught-to-think-pink-but-that-wasnt-always-so
  4. I am getting serious kayak *** here. I have been eye balling the ATAK for a while now. Contemplating a possible upgrade next year. The only issue is cost. The kayak itself isn't too bad, but tack on a trailer, tow package for my car, possible motor or pedal drive, and things start climbing. So much so that I am actually debating between a fully rigged ATAK and a proper boat. Has anything heard any speculation over how much the motor will be. I saw the device it is based on and it runs as much as the ATAK. As cool as that is I just don't know how feasible it will be. I am also curious about how it will do in really shallow water or water with heavy weeds. I would hate to get hung up all the time, especially if I am on a river.
  5. Did you steal my tackle bag? With the exception of the Buzz toad this is the exactly list I use. Of course I guess it does cover nearly all of the primary types.
  6. This is good info Bait'r. I have been working on fishing spooks too, and have got to the point that I can actually keep them going consistently. I haven't really tried this technique with a frog. Your comment about making the most of that gap in the pads really kind of sunk in for me though. I am definitely going to work on walking a frog and give it a shot next time I am out.
  7. Yeah but that should beat the world record right. Please tell me I didn't waste my money
  8. You all are fools. I just bought it. Can't wait to see my name in the record books soon.
  9. This right here. If they would make one that is under 1 oz (would that be more of a mouse?) and costs less than $20 I would definitely get one. Given the semi-aquatic nature of rats it should be a no-brainer. Perhaps I need to work on creating my own... Might be a good winter project. Update - I just looked at the TW site and they have the smaller versions of the Spro BBZ-1 slated for December of this year. The smallest only weights 1/2 oz. Next size up is 1 oz. Definitely doable with my gear. I will have to put these on my list for Christmas.
  10. A happy wife is a happy life or something like that. I have found that if I don't questions the boxes of shoes that show up at our door she doesn't question the tackle either. Works great for everyone except my bank account
  11. I am a new addict where hollow body frogs are concerned. I too just recently started using them consistently. I caught my first one about a month ago. This past weekend I actually caught a new PB using a frog (see my profile pic). I still can't get them every time but I feel like I am getting better at setting the hook. The funniest blow up I had though didn't result in a hookset. I had casted my frog between two trees, and ended up with my line over a branch. Just as I started reeling up away from the water a bass blew up on it. It managed to come out all the way to the tip of it's tail. It was really cool to see. I have had lures get hung up on limbs a bunch of times, and always wondered what would happen if a fish grabbed it in the air, but honestly I never thought I would see it. Like I said though, now I am completely addicted to frog fishing. Too bad I had to get "hooked" so late in the summer. At least the water stays pretty warm around here late into the fall so I should still have a few more weeks of froggin'.

    PB

  13. From the album: PB

  14. Yes, but you know he would guess twice your actual weight... Isn't that how fishermen do it?
  15. I have put in probably 40+ hours in at that lake over 8-10 trips. I have caught fish there (my profile pic was taken there) but not many. Since it was the spot I caught my first bass at I kind of got stuck in a rut and kept going back hoping for more. In all the time I have spent on that lake I think I have only caught about 6 bass and maybe 2 bluegill. I have been told there are a lot of bass in there, including some biggies, but I just have not seen them yet. Now having said that I have not written that lake off either. All those pads just make me drool for some great frog fishing, I just haven't been able to make it a reality yet. I think for me the issue is finding fish. I haven't been out there since I picked up a fish finder, but without one if I couldn't find them in the pads I was out of luck. The other point I should make is that this lake has very heavy vegetation even outside of the pads. This really limits you to weedless lures. Even in places where the weeds do not break the surface I struggled to use topwater lures like buzzbaits. Things like crankbaits, or treble hook baits are straight out of the question for large portions of the lake. Since I caught my first bass at this lake it will always be special to me, but at the same time I have to think there are better, more reliable, spots out there. I just haven't found them yet.
  16. Are we fishing the same waters
  17. I haven't yet, but I plan to. Since the park doesn't open until 9:00 AM I waiting until after the worst of the summer is over and the water starts to cool a bit. Definitely interested in hearing from anyone who has fished there though.
  18. I have been to Kendal a few times, but honestly I have struggled there. Almost all of the shallow water is choked with weeds and lily pads, and I haven't had luck finding anything in the deeper water. Having said that my profile pic was taken there so I know there are decent bass in the lake. Most of the people I have seen fishing there were fishing for bream, but I have run in to a few people fishing for bass. I have also personally seen an approximately 3' catfish swim right under my kayak. The thing was massive, and swam up out of the grass and under my boat. It just about gave me a heart attack before I realized what it was.
  19. The reactivity of Elaztech is exactly why I have never purchased any myself. I have several packs of different Z-Man baits that I gathered through my tackle subscriptions. On occasion I will bring one out, but I really just don't think they are worth it. When I fish in the kayak I will carry a coffee can with me. Each time I swap a bait I will drop the old lure in the can. The main reason I do this is laziness, but I also don't want to put wet lures back in with dry ones. This means that on occasion an Elaztech lure will get dropped in there with everything else. At least twice now I forgot the can in my car for a couple days only to come back to a real mess. This has nearly turned me off this type of bait completely. I love the durability, and I can even deal with the "extra effort" needed to rig them. What I can't deal with is ruining lures because I was too tired after fishing, or just plain forgetful. When you add in the attractant issue it just makes everything worse. Perhaps if I was to switch completely to Z-Man the melting wouldn't be an issue. I have also just ordered my first tube of Megastrike. If this can get me away from JJ's or Spike-It maybe I would consider the switch, but for now I really like dye aspect of JJ's and Spike-It. Another thought is that if I were to ditch the kayak in favor of a boat where I have more room to move around I might consider switching as keeping different types of lure separate would be a little easier.
  20. It doesn't have to be another fish trying to eat it. Open wounds on the back could signify a bird attack, or perhaps it got too close to the bank and was hit by a four legged critter.
  21. I managed to get out this past Saturday for a bit. I only managed about 3 hours of fishing before the heat and wind was too much. However, I did manage to pull in two small ones before I gave up. There were a few bites I missed the hookset on though so it could have been a bit higher. Either way the bite is definitely slowing down around here too. At least for me, it was a bit of a win though. The place I went to is still pretty new to me (been there less than 6 times). When I first started fishing there a few weeks ago I paid attention to the type of forage, the water clarity, etc. Using this I went back and thought about the type of lure, and the colors. Both of the fish I caught on Saturday were both on lures I picked specifically for this location. So for me this was a win as it is one of the first times I have really taken the time to evaluate conditions, determine a lure type/color, and actually caught fish, all without input from anyone. It might be a small win for most of you, but for someone that has been doing this less than a year being able to evaluate conditions and select an appropriate lure is still something I am working on. Unfortunately, the deep divers I was hoping to catch some on didn't pay off, but I didn't really give them the time and effort I should have due to the weather. Although I feel like it was a productive day I have a feeling I learned a lesson though. Going out in a kayak in 100 degree weather just don't suit my constitution very well. Between the long hours I have been putting in at work and the lack of sleep that corresponds combined with the effort of padding around in triple digit temps wore me out so bad I spent the rest of the day and much of the next day passed out. As a result I don't know that I will be heading out in the kayak much when temps are supposed to be over say 95 degrees. Time to find some new bank fishing locations.
  22. Yeah, frogs are another lure I am hoping to finally catch some fish on as well this season. It looks like so much fun in the videos I have seen. Can't wait to get in that action.
  23. Shoot, I knew I should have looked further. Now I am off to the front page. I will try to keep it quiet until after this weekend though. Also @bluebasser86, that is pretty cool that it won a tournament. I still have one left from MTB that I intend to give a try again this weekend. Hoping I can finally join in on all this sliced bread stuff.
  24. I am shocked! What happened to all of the Ned rig posts. Last month every other post in this forum seemed to be about the Ned rig, but today I had to go to page 6 to find the first one. I thought this was the best thing since sliced bread, but now all of the posts have dried up. I have lost faith in all of you. ** BTW this post is pure tongue in cheek, and just poking fun at how obsessed everyone seemed to be with this lure the past couple months. Just trying to add a little bit of fun to the day. Now to go post a topic about how to fish a senko. **
  25. I managed a couple hours of fishing this past Sunday. Unfortunately do to the amount of time I had I ended up a local pond that doesn't always produce. All I caught was a few pickerel. Not a single bass bite even though I can usually catch at least one or two at this pond. I am headed back out tomorrow for a more serious session, and plan to hit up some better water. It is supposed to get close to 100 here tomorrow. Since I just bought some new deep diving cranks, I am kind of looking forward to the heat in hopes that it will drive them deep so I can use the new lures. I just hope the heat doesn't completely turn the bite off. I has been almost a month since I have gotten a decent trip in so I have all my appendages crossed that it is a good day. I just wish there was going to be more cloud cover. It is going to be hot bright day. Double up on the sunscreen if you are going out at all.
