  1. So there is this great looking pond about a mile down the road from my house called Cooks Mill Pond that I'd love to figure out how to get access to fish. There is a posted sign up but with no contact information. A while back I actually went to the county administration building to see if I could find out who owns it so I could call and ask permission (or even pay them) to fish it from time to time with my kayak. They couldn't help me. Anyone have any tips on how to go about getting legitimate access to a pond like this? Any resources to use to find out more information about ponds like this? I've lived here 3 years and am dying to figure out a way to fish this pond, I've never seen anyone out there fishing it. Thanks! Joey
  2. Hey Hawg, That's some good info, thanks! I haven't made it past the 2nd bridge yet but I'll think I'll try that next time I'm out there. I'd also like to try going up one of the two long creeks up to the right from the boat ramp, I'm guessing that is where you're talking about the lily pad field because I don't think the center channel I went up was that far. I also read that they've added another 1200 carp in this year because they're trying to get rid of some of the grass but every place I've been to that has done that in the past has ruined the fishing for quite a while so I don't like that much either. Either way I'm sure I'll make it back out there again soon (once I try to get a little tackle again) and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again! Joey
  3. Yep, you're definitely right jbw52, I told my wife that exact thing today. I'll definitely be attaching a name/phone number tag to anything like that I have in the future!
  4. I went out early, weather was perfect, bait fish popping all over the place like crazy but I got nothing else to bite. The water is crazy low, I think it's down about 8 feet just this year. Either way I continued to get skunked at Diascund and it's getting frustrating. I paddled all the way up the middle as far as I could go and worked my way back and then fished the first bridge pile ons and still nothing. I tried topwater for the first hour then switched to some small spinners and rooster tails just to try to get *anything*. I think I'm going to make my way back over to Chickahominy Lake soon and I'd like to try out Waller Mill, haven't tried them yet but have heard good things. Do you have any thoughts about Diascund? I'd really like to figure that place out since it's the closest one to me.
  5. So I went yak fishing on the Diascund Reservoir last Thursday morning. When I was done I got everything (or so I thought) loaded back onto my truck and took off. This afternoon I had the realization that I think I left my tackle box sitting on the boat ramp. And it was one of those days where I brought "everything". I went back this afternoon for the long shot that it might still be there or someone might know. Nothing. Hundreds of dollars worth of tackle gone. At that point I started feeling a little sick. Anyways, I'm posting this here for the even crazier long shot that someone here may have visited Diascund sometime since Thursday morning and may have seen it. It's a camo tackle bag which holds 4 plano boxes. I guess this means I'm starting over from scratch again on tackle, not cool. Thanks for any info you may have, Joey
  6. Hey man, I live right near Diascund and most of those other ones you listed. I usually go to Diascund the most since it's the closest but have only been out a couple times this year. I'm trying to get out more now at least once a week. I went out to Little Creek once last week and I like the Chickahominy Lake as well. I'd like to check out Waller Mill sometime soon as well. I also fish out a yak and love it. I got a Ride 135 last year and it's great. I'm still learning my way around yak fishing but if you wanted to catch up sometime that'd be great! I live in Lanexa (New Kent County). Let me know! Joey
  7. Hey folks, Just recently started getting back into fishing after a long hiatus (like 15 years). After cruising around with a friend on a kayak recently, I decided to dive into kayak fishing for the first time. I actually had 2 yaks delivered today and can't wait to take the Ride 135 out for its maiden voyage (hopefully tomorrow). I've been addicted to everything related to kayak fishing for about a month now, watching tons of videos, reading articles, etc. I'm really looking forward to it and am sure I'll have a ton of things to learn. The main bodies of water around me are the Diascund Creek Reservoir, Little Creek Reservoir and the Chickahominy Lake, so it'll great to get out into these with my yak instead of being stuck on the shore. I think I noticed a few other folks on here that live close by, so that's cool, maybe I can learn some local tips. I've really enjoyed catching up on a lot of the articles, posts and videos on this site as well, it's awesome! Thanks all, Joey
