  1. I've only been bass fishing for about a year and a half, and have had a wide variety of baits most of the time. However, I fell into the trap of throwing spinnerbaits 95% of the time due to early success. I've made a point of using other baits this year. Feels great to catch a fish on a new bait. Finally caught my first (and second, and third) bass on a jig this morning. Now, I'm excited to throw a jig next time I'm out.
  2. I have the tbc710hf with a Calcutta 300d and 20lb CXX. It's great for anything I've tied on including 8 inch savage line through swim baits and down to spinnerbaits that may have been an ounce total. Why are you going with the punchin rod instead of the swimbait rod?
  3. The UL and L avids are great rods. The wife has a 6' UL and I have a 6'6" L. Very light and sensitive. Not at all limp noodles. They are a blast with panfish or while wading for smallies in the river by our house.
  4. Giron Biwaa seven
  5. You make a good point with most of what you are saying, however you are wrong about inflation. Inflation would make the debt cheaper, not more expensive as the dollars you are using to pay back the loan are worth less than the dollars originally provided by the loan. If I was able to get a loan at 6% when inflation was running 8% I would take out as much as I could just to invest safely and take advantage of the arbitrage play.
  6. I'm in the milwaukee area. Probably heading to pewaukee for the opener. Hoping to get out on the wine bag system before then. How has the fishing been up there?
  7. I have a 6'6 mf avid that's my favorite rod. Much better than the 7'3 mf ***. So much so that I now have ultra light through mh avids for this year. Probably most excited for the mlxf.
  8. Where did you get those? I've been looking for them for a couple months since I had good luck with them in the keys. How do bass like them?
  9. I love them with grubs. 2 inch mr twister for panfish. Swap to 1/8 4/0 jig and lunker grub for bass. Always seem to produce.
  10. Crap. Anniversary = $100 joint order from TW. I guess it's better than getting other unnecessary gifts.
  11. Are you sure? I haven't seen that in the regulations. Do you know what section that exclusion is in? Not saying you are wrong. Just that I didn't know that and would like to take advantage of that exclusion.
  12. There are lots of parks along the highway and old sections of the highway that have been turned into fishing piers.
  13. I guess the ramps by me are designed differently than yours. If you are ready, I wouldn't be in your way while getting my truck. If the ramp is that busy, I would beach the boat off to the side or wait to ensure I wasn't blocking the ramp.
  14. BTW, I agree she was rude, just seemed like the OP wasn't the most considerate person at the ramp either.
  15. I'm able to do it by myself with out doing it that way. I'll tie up to the dock away from the ramps, back the truck in, then grab the boat and 20 seconds later the boat is on the the trailer. Way faster than blocking a ramp to walk to the truck and while waiting in line to back down the ramp. Not the only way, but it can be a very inconsiderate way.
  16. Was there a dock? Seems leaving your boat in a lane while getting your truck is pretty rude.
  17. I got a crestliner fishhawk 1750 walk through last summer and we really enjoy using it. 10 rods in the main locker pulse the port locker. Wish the main rod locker could handle 8 foot rods. We have a 24v terrovova on it that does a great job. The boat would be right in your price range new With electronics. The fold down rear casting deck is a really nice option and we are glad we made getting it a priority. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
  18. I use grubs like the d&m baits come with.
  19. Less than two weeks to the trout opener in WI. At least I got a chance to organize my flyfishing stuff again today. Only put a few items in my cart on TW. Didn't complete the purchase yet. Held the bait monkey at bay for another day.
  20. My wife and I went down to the keys in November and had a great time catching a few jacks and other species. Fighting the jacks on both spinning and fly gear was a ton of fun. Unfortunately, she caught some larger jacks than I did. P1010410.jpg by klebs01, on Flickr
  21. I like the format a lot better than normal tournaments. The live updates are a big improvement and it is better seeing the stress it places on the participants. I don't like the 5 bass format because a person that cought 4 4 pounders and a 4.5 pounder didn't have a better day than the person that cought 20 4 pounders.
  22. $31 for husband wife license in wisconsin, plus $20 each for inland and Great Lakes trout and salmon stamps.
  23. The main rod locker on my boat had more spots than I had set ups. No sense in wasting the space, so I bought more rods to fill the boat. And then more outfits... And then a new boat with more storage...
  24. I have the same concern so I'm going to try a couple inches of 30lb rio wire bite tippet. It seems fairly flexible but might use a perfection loop to ensure the bait has a natural action.
  25. For me, merino wool base layers seem to work much better than the under armor type synthetics. Plus they are more stink resistant. I also have a pair of orvis gloves that have leave the tips of the thumb amd first two fingers exposed but fully cover the last two fingers. The seem to provide a good balance of warmth while allowing the feel to tie knots and thumb the spool while casting.
