  1. Thanks for the response. I reached out to them and no one was available. Looks like we will have to plan better next time.
  2. My wife and I will have a free day on Friday 4/29 in the Oakland area and she suggested we go fishing. Anyone have a recommendation for a guide? We were thinking the delta would be the best option but are open to other suggestions.
  3. We have the flip up seats on our crestliner and it makes a nice large casting deck when it's just me and my wife. It's nice to be able to flip the seats up if we want to bring other family or friends out for both fishing or just an evening cruise.
  4. I have a 6' Avid ULF that is a great rod. really fun for pan fish, and it can handle bass. A 1 to 2 pound bass feels HUGE on it. Its a lot of fun and a great rod for float and fly fishing. If you are willing to spend $150, it might be worth looking for an Avid.
  5. Allen is absolutely right. When I started fishing from a boat, it was in a rented 14' aluminum V with 8hp on a 2400 acre lake. I would go out with my wide and It was plenty of power for what it was. I now have a 17.5' with a 115. Yeah, it's more comfortable, but it doesn't really do anything the smaller boat couldn't. If I was to bring it to ab 80 acre lake, I wouldn't even start the big motor. Wouldn't be worth it. The trolling motor would be much better, more efficient and effective on that size pond.
  6. I ordered some parts off Shimano's website. It was easy and the parts arrived quick enough.
  7. I use 30lb braid to a 15lb flouro leader on my spinnerbait rod. After trying other lines, I appreciate the feedback braid provides.
  8. Thanks!
  9. Are the Gantarel Jr and the Chibitarel the same bait? Any differences?
  10. My favorite rod for the ned is a 6'9" mlxf avid. It is sensitive and cast well. I dues my 6'6" mf avid. I worked fine, was better for skipping under docks because it was a little shorter, but the mlxf seemed better for the task. I tried my 6'6" lf avid and it really seemed too light. In a pinch it could work, but definitely not my preference. This year I'm going to give the ml enigma a shot. Seems like it would be a great rod for a ned rig.
  11. I'm also looking st those rods. I could use a jig rod and love my st croix's. Which rod would be closest to a mhf legend elite? 894 or 895?
  12. 2500 ci4+ will do everything I want for bad and it's very light. However, it's only available up to 4000 size. The sustain is available in larger sizes, up to 10000 I think. The extra size and line capacity is useful for larger fish that run like tarpon. That said, I plan on using a 3000 ci4+ on a ml inshore rod and a 4000 on a m inshore rod when I get them.
  13. I would stick with the CI4+ for bass, but the sustain is a very nice reel for saltwater applications.
  14. I must be missing something with g loomis rods and have thought about posting this for a while. Looking at the weight ratings for the nrx, I would have to get the 895 extra heavy rod to fish a half ounce jig and trailer. A medium heavy would be over the weight rating with a 3/8 jig and trailer. Even the spinnerbait rods would be borderline with a finess spinnerbait. What am I missing? Do people just ignore the ratings?
  15. I always have a coffee or cafinated tea on the way to the launch in the morning. Make sure to hit the can before I launch to prevent any issues later in the day.
  16. I have 8# pp on my UL. Usually with a 4 or 6 lb fluoro leader.
  17. Triple overhand. Super easy and strong. Haven't found a knot that is as easy to tie and as reliable. Will be trying the fg this season for some applications with small guides, but it's not nearly as friendly to tie on the boat.
  18. My plan is for this season is to throw musky spinners on my swimbait rod. I have a LTB 7'10" fast action rated for 1-4 oz and only 5.5 oz. it's a little. More than you wanted to spend, but you could use it for bass fishing too.
  19. Depending on when you need the rod, there is a Muskie expo in the Milwaukee area in two weeks or the outdoor show in the beginning on March. St croix and others will be at the Muskie show and Thorne bros should be at the outdoor show. Those should give you a good opportunity to handle the rods before you buy.
  20. I have a 301 I use for swimbaits. I like it a lot. Only complaint is that the spool tension knob it difficult to tighten enough for heavy baits. It still functions well and doesn't backlash, but I'm not quite able to set it up like my other reels. A lot of people will tell you you need to use mono for big baits, but there are plenty of people who use braid. I listened to the mono people and hated it. I spooled up some 50lb braid for this year, and using the rod for some heavy punching in addition to swimbaits.
  21. Keep in mind the handles are different. I prefer the round Eva on the ci4, but it's all personal preference.
  22. We need a net up here with all the toothy critters. No way I'm going to try to lip a northern or musky. I'll use it for bass too if it's out.
  23. I have the st croix 7'10" LTB swimbait rod which works great for 1-4 oz baits. I have even been able to go lighter with no issues. Haven't needed to go heavier.
  24. Fishing is probably the cheapest hobby there is. Get some line, a hook, and a bit of bait and you are participating. So the cost of entry is maybe a dollar. Like any hobby, people will take it much further. If people are willing to spend money, others will fill the market demands.
