  1. Well...she always outfishes me, but this time she skunked me. I have been in a very bad slump of late. Missing fish, getting short strikes. Just seemed like everything i do screws up. Has anybody ever felt uncomfortable about landing fish?? Its really weird. I didn't think you could get in a slump fishing but I guess I have. Must not be "holding my mouth right" as the old saying goes. :-/ On a bright note, my wife bagged this nice 3 pounder which is her new personal best! I'm very proud of her. She fought it like a pro after she got over the initial shock of having a hard pulling bass on. She did real good. It was the only bass of the day in a public lake that had been getting a ton of pressure as of late. As far as me...I think maybe I should have thrown topwater a little more. TWICE I got hits as I was reeling in my T-rigged plastic lizard on top. One great bite that i just missed the fish and one other time, I got straightlined. Probably a small bass. I threw ALOT of crankbait and plastic worm and came up empty. Anyway...a fun day with my better half. Pic below. She's the best!
  2. Well thats how its been on these last 2 trips. Just seems like the weather has them screwed up right now. That's why tomorrow could be really interesting. I know this lake has some big bass in it and doesn't get alot of fishing pressure and we just had a huge weather system move through here today and there is a 40% more chance of rain tomorrow. I'm gonna pack the water proof gear and gut it out of they are biting. ;D
  3. Well...the last 2 trips i made I went to 2 new lakes that I had aquired over the summer. It was the first time at both of these spots for me. The first trip was a couple of weeks ago at a lake up in the N. GA Mountains. It was the Thursday that a huge front moved in and as we hit the water that morning the Temperature was in the high 40s! The bite was steady all day though. Lots of Fish but all slicks. We were getting short striked alot fishing T-Rigged Culprit worms. I was using a number 3 hook and decided to go down to a number 2. I lost very few fish after that. I wound up with 17 for the day but should have had at least 30 Bass caught. They were biting that good in the cold weather. As the day went on the wind made navigating our small 2 man almost impossible. We were having gusts up to 20 mph that day. It also made it feel like it was 10 degrees colder than it was. The high for the day got up in the 60s but the wind made it feel 50ish all day long. All in all we boated about 25 bass that day but I felt sorry for my partner because he fought that trolling motor all day long! The next week which would be last Wednesday, we went to the other new lake and had a pretty good day. Overcast skys and a fairly steady bite produced 12 Bass for me caught on a variety of T-rigged Culprits and the last 6 coming on a red shad Senko rigged weightless. The big one for the day for me was a 2 pounder caught on the Senko, but my brother caught the big fish of the day with a 2.5 pounder on a T-Rigged Black Culprit. The reason I switched to the Senko was this lake had alot of grass in it and the T-Rigg was grabbing grass on every cast. By switching to the weightless Senko, I was able to stay grass free the majority of the time Below is a pic of the 2 pounder I caught on the Mountain and a pic of the first lake in which you can see how bad the wind was that day. NAAAAAASTY. I'm planning another trip tomorrow to a different lake. Lots of rain up here this week with a 40% chance tomorrow. Should be interesting but I'll file a report later this week to let you guys know how it went.
  4. He caught a couple of slicks but he is close to 80 and his eyes are not as sharp they used to be. Casting is a problem for him especially when we fish flooded timber but mainly he just likes to get out on the lake. I was just proud that he did catch a couple of fish!
  5. Hey guys...I've been away for awhile but i'm back. The wife and i just had a baby in July and she is back at work..My little man is now old enough to go to the sitter and I'm back fishing!! First time I have been since April. Went to the Rock yesterday with my Gradnfather-in law in his little 2 man boat. We fished on Heath lake which is only open the first ten days of the month. We decided to throw some do-nothings in flooded timber and 10 minutes in i caught a nice 2 & 1/2 pounder. The conditions were really good in the morning. Cool temps and overcast skys. After a few slicks by both of us the wind got up and made fighting that little 2 man almost unbearable. I looked around the lake and saw a big high bank that i had fished a few times before but never had any succes there. ZERO. I told him...lets get out of this wind and go fish over there on that big high bank. He told me the same thing i was thinking..."never caught any over there but we need to get out of this wind!" After a few uneventful casts we went around the ben and i saw a nice log laying in the water which was around 10-15 feet off this slope with a constant slope out into about 25 feet of water. I had changed to a Culprit 7.5 inch Red Shad (my favorite worm) Texas rig. I made a cast around the big laydown and got a POP and my line started heading out. I immediatly hammered a hook set and knew i had a pretty good fish on....I was hollering to my GFL "get the net...pretty good fish!" Of course in the crowded little 2 man the net was burried under all kinds of junk. MY GFL staggerd and fumbled while i fought the fish and after a couple of jumps we got her in the boat. A nice 5.25 lber. A quick picture and release and then the bottom fell out!! The wind got worse and the rain started falling. We got out of there but at least i got about 4 hours on the water and boated a couple of nice Bass. Included is a pic: The moral of the story is this: If you are going to the lake in a small boat....take as little as possible. Never give up on a spot you have never had any success at. My only regret was i didn't get a chance to throw a pig n jig in that timber which was my plan for later in the day. There's always next time though. Have a good day fishing brothers!!! It's good to be back fishing!
