I'm 60 and throw a mix of old and new. It's all good! My Heddon Hula poppers sit in a box next to my Megabass PopMax baits. Rebel and Rapala minnows share a box with Lucky Craft Pointers. Etc. I'm guessing the old stuff that's still around is still around for a reason... it still works so it still sells.

I'm betting the odds are really good that the OP figured out what to do with that rod by now... KnappBassin93's post is a response to a thread that's been dead for four years. ? (I use a 7'3" HMF for frogging.)

I use a Kistler KLX 7'3" HMF and it gets the job done. It feels like a pool cue when casting lighter frogs but it does a great job hauling fish out of the thick stuff.

I have a cheap BFS reel or two who's only real weakness is weak magnetic braking. Stronger magnets might be a big help.

Are the stock magnets in reels the rare earth type? If not, were your replacements?

I've used a vinegar (or citric acid) bath to remove rust and corrosion from old Coleman lantern parts while restoring lanterns. It is very effective, safe , and environmentally friendly too.

Now THAT must have been a show to see. You're a lucky man! I have the movie of The Last Waltz. On the rare times I bring music out bass fishing, The Band and old ZZ Top seem to be heavily represented on the playlist.

Definitely a favorite band that I always thought was underappreciated. Sad to see him go. RIP.

That photo was taken at the table of my buddy's cottage on Cape Cod. The guys in the photo were from MA, NY, CA and CO, and all there enjoying a striper fishing vacation. Lots of older guys will recognize the old Welch's grape jelly jar being used as a beer glass in the photo. They were intended for re-use as drinking glasses. They had a pry-off top you removed with a cap lifter. Those were a very popular type of summer home glassware in the past. And folks think recycling is a modern idea! ?

Actually, a closer look will show that his fork is sticking out of the top of his fist, not the bottom. The food was plenty dead. ? Just one of those times a photo catches a gesture or freezes a movement or moment. (That's the magic of photography: it freezes an instant in time forever!)

The cottonwood seeds look pretty innocuous... like a bit of dandelion fluff. But it's every bit as tough as cotton; maybe tougher. It's more of a problem fouling your line and guides than it is on your lures. It looks like you could just grab the little wad of it on your line and just pull it off or pop the line through it to get it off, but it just slides up and down the line -- especially on monofilament. Consider yourself lucky that you don't have to deal with it. There are worse things, I'm sure, but it is particularly frustrating.

I was talking with some friends last night about beer. I love most beers from cheap regionals to high-end micro-brews. Miller High Life is one of the few beers I just can't drink. Yuck! Also, one of the guys in the conversation was from Georgia (his wife is from upstate NY). He didn't have much good to say about the Genesee Cream Ale I was drinking, or Genesee beers in general, and was very surprised to find out that the J.W. I have an old photo posted farther back in this thread. I caught a huge one this spring on Lake Champlain and really regret not taking photos of it. I didn't think to photograph it because it was going apesh*t while I was trying to unhook it and I just wanted to get it back in the water. ? I love 'em... they're like bulldozers. And it seems I hook them most often when I'm fishing with an ultralight rig with a Roadrunner or marabou jig. Fun!

They are practically a dinosaur as far as evolution goes, and they fight like one. Very strong. Tough to handle in the boat... they (and big northerns) were my motivation to trade in my plastic fish-grippers for a real BogaGrip.

I'd go with FishTank's option... the Smith Chroma-Pop are my favorite polarized lenses and that's a great price. And my Smith frames have been durable and strong (going on 12 years now, I think).

What's wrong with your 9wt for stripers? That's been my go-to for 26 years. ? I do bring along a 7'6" MH Daiwa Ardito travel baitcasting rod and a Lew's Inshore reel on saltwater fly fishing trips for stripers, just in case.

BTW, a lady friend was looking at my Mustang MIT and examined the yellow manual activation handle. It says "JERK" on it. She asked how I was able to get Mustang to personalize my PFD. ?

I never wore a PFD at all when fishing, and only when boating in fast water with a canoe or kayak. This season I made it a point to start wearing my Mustang MIT and my kill switch lanyard. After two or three outings, it was a TOTAL non-issue or inconvenience. It will make you and your loved ones feel more at ease about you boating solo.

I use the very similar Owner Finesse ball heads.

There are plenty of them in Lake Champlain here in the Northeast...
