  1. I'm always talked to at the launch coming and going. People are very friendly. No one has ever touched my gear. They just ask questions and I answer them and make some small talk. They're dreamers.. I fuel their dream.
  2. I fish heavy cover too. It's tough to land them for all of us. Best you can hope for is to get them up after the hook set and start hauling them in. If they get deep the only other attempt to get them is keep a high rod and tight line while t motoring towards them. Go past them and turn them around hopefully into less covered water and reel them in. I lost what I'm quite sure was a state record bass a few weeks ago. I fought him while he was 4' deep in cabomba at least 60'. Got him to the side of the boat net ready and lifted him straight up. The hook pulled out the tip went high and he was gone. I've re-lived it several times since. I should have moved the boat in and turned him around. It was like fighting a striper. I was using my Lews Custom Lite Magnum Grass rod. It's a real stick.. Toughest bass I've ever hooked. What a fighter. I'm using Owner hooks now.. long throat should help keep the barbs in. Stanley 4s are history. I've lost to many lunkers using them. I will use the 5s though...
  3. I like using P Line CX green 15#. i prefer it over mono.
  4. I use a 6' Team Diawa MHF for short casts into heavy cover. Usually with a 3/8-1/2oz punch jig. For longer casts I use a Lews Custom Lite Magnum Grass with a 1/2oz or heavier punch jig. I always peg the head with a tooth pic. Old school, you know.
  5. The reel seat on the Tat kept me from buying them. ACS reel seat or I pass. I have two Team Diawa rods. 6' and 6'6" MH. Great rods. So which rod did you buy?
  6. That was the point of my second post. lol
  7. I'll get a look at them, thx. I finally did get a look at the Skeet Reese rod. One word to sum it up: JUNK
  8. I send my reels to Lews for service. Just recently Garrett and Mike serviced two of my Tournament Pro reels. Came back better than new. Unfortunately I've had two bad experiences with service techs. I'll stick with the Lews company tech service. It's usually a 14 day wait time from date I ship til date returned. That's reasonable. Communication is excellent!!!
  9. Glad you're happy! Enjoy..
  10. I have this rod, it's very versitale and will do exactly what you asking for and more. Abu Garcia Mike Iaconelli Signature power series rod model 70-5.
  11. I use a Team Diawa 6'6" MH. It's super light rod with a soft action and fast tip. These rods are super sleepers.. it also does great with worms, spinner baits, lipless and square bill cranks. A great rod! If you can find one I highly recommend you to buy it. I also have a 6' MH that's fantastic for using jigs in tight areas. The rod has serious hook setting power. Both cast perfectly.. I can't say enough good about them.
  12. My Lews reels are fine in stock condition. A general cleaning, oil and lube every 3 months is all that is needed. In my opinion anything more is a waste of money.
  13. Ask your killer dealer.. he should be able to steer you in the right direction.
  14. After reading all the replies you're probably more confused than when you ask the question. I have no idea which rod or reel you will like best, so buy what feels good to you and go fishing.
  15. If you can live with a 7' rod I recommend the Lews Magnum One. The rod is a monster... I've hauled more 5 plus bass out of heavy cover with this rod than any of my others. Don't be fooled by the lure weight ratings. I have a rods rated to 2oz that aren't as much a stick as the Magnum One.
  16. If you plan on casting moving baits the 1/4-1 MHM will do fine. You can cross over with it too. Jigs, worms and top water. The Benefit to the Mod will be more of a parabolic bend. I'm not referring to a crank bait rod. What brand is the rod you're looking at? That matters because ratings can be very different.
  17. When I saw Lews in the thread title I had to jump in. One more and I'll be at a dozen.. they work for me. I'm sticking with them. Plus, the service is outstanding. I can't say I have a favorite. Each reel does exactly what I need from it. Go Lews!
  18. Way to go Ardent! A few years back I was close to buying Ardent reels but decided to go Lews. Ardent had some really great prices at the time. These were USA made reels. Good luck with your reels.. I'm sure your going to be happy with them.
  19. I usually do something stupid to break a rod. Lews and Abu have been great about it. Tell Powel the truth. They should send you a new rod. That's not enough weight or pressure to cause a well made blank to break like that.
  20. The Lews MB is a heck of a nice reel. I bought one for one of my toad rods. It's been great. I added a 95mm handle to it. Ebay has them for $104.00 It's a surprisingly great reel... Aside from the MB all my other reels are high end Lews.
  21. Very Nice catch! Congrats.... I suppose my biggest concern is the Wright MGgill rod. It seems they aren't that popular and the reviews are just fair because of breakage. I've held a few of the casting rods. I like the blank but not the grip. Super light weight.
  22. I've looked around online and haven't found much. The Skeet Reese 1/4-1 7' Jig rod may work. It has Titainium Micro guides. Reviews are mixed. Claims are it casts long. I'll be buying this rod for my brother. He has 3000 and 4000 series Abu SX reels with braid. Any oponions would be appreciated.
  23. I'm sure the folks who buy them like them but, they're not the same rod as the Avid. In fact I'd put my money in a Premier before a Mojo. I've held the Avid, Premier and Mojo. The Mojo was heavier, not as well balanced or finished as nicely as the other two. Personally I would not buy any of them.
  24. I've tried a hand full of braid lines. I'm happy with power pro. I have no interest in other brands now. All my rods and reels are dialed in with power pro now so I'm not changing a thing.
