  1. No MoJo in January... looking forward to Spring. I need some weed-s!
  2. That reel looks PDG!
  3. I wouldn't use it.. one lost quality bait and your that much further behind the cost of new line. If you do choose to use it pull 20% off and chuck it.
  4. Good thread.. I'm big on toads. I use all Lews reels. 5,6,7 depending on conditions. The 5 works well in heavy cover when making accurate shorter casts, the 6 is good in open water and the 7 is my go to reel for big cast in heavy cover. 65 pound power pro works for me. The right rods make a huge difference in your hook up to miss ratio. In fact I think your rod is more important than your reel overall. Why? Because you can always make your way to a fish if needed.
  5. Which one? Heavy or Extra Heavy? a Toad with a double hook is typically 1/2oz. I want accurate bomb casting and monster hook setting power and lift. I fish heavy top cover with lots of cabomba weed below. I have to get them up and quick. My best to date is 9.4. I lost a 12 or so at the boat this past season. Those dam #4 hooks are just to small. I'm after a state record. any advice from experience with these rods would be very helpful.
  6. I've used their Braid line. Not bad at all and price is very fair. As for the reels I think they're a good start for someone wanting to learn to use a bait caster or is just new to fishing buying a spinning reel. lets hope the company does well... and grows.
  7. Personally I like the micros on rods I use for baits that don't require a leader.
  8. My fishing is done until spring.. I'll never get use to it but such is life in the North East. Better to be safe than sorry. Glad you made it to your destination standing.
  9. Should be fine in heavy cover.. I use 4 different rods for frogs and toads. Lews Custom Lite Magnum Grass Abu Villian 2.0 two versions Abu IKE Signature Lace your reel with 65lb Braid and tie one on!
  10. I have two of them. Outstanding rods. Really nice guides for Braid with a leader tied on. Super Light, Total Sleepers.
  11. Take a look at the terminator Ti spinetbaits. 3/8 and 1/2 oz. they're well made and catch bass. Good luck with your search...
  12. If your throwing square bills in rocky shallow water you don't need rattelers. The bill will be banking off rocks and making all the noise you'll need to trigger a strike. Throwing them over grass or cabomba is a different story. You will want the rattleler. I use square bills and traps for this approach often. Check out the Super Nova series Rat L Traps. I use P-Line CX 15# green or 40# Power Pro Braid with a CX leader. I don't think the line you use makes much of a difference since it's a reaction Strike you're after.
  13. I bought a Lews MB reel for one of my toad rods. It cast well and is very smooth. The drag locks up nicely it's light and very comfortable in the hand. I believe it's the Best Buy on the market to date. I swapped the 80mm handle out for a 95mm. My other Frog and Toad reels are Lews Tournament Pro's. For open water baits I prefer my Lews Magnesium and Team Lite reels. Honorable mention would be my Lews BB1 reels.. I use them for baits I work slowly. Super Smooth, Cast a mile.. I would recommend you to take a look at the MB and the BB1 which comes with the 95mm handle and is available in 3 gear ratios.
  14. Abu has been great to me. Reel parts and rod replacements. Perfect! One rod I broke and I told them. They thanked me for being a loyal customer and sent me a new rod and it was an upgrade at that. The rod I broke was an IKE.. that was not in stock, they told me I could pick out any Villian 2.0 I wanted. I had the rod 3 days later. The following week I bought another Villian 2.0. What a great rod design they are.
  15. Lews Team Lite.. small, tough, comfortable, cast a mile.
  16. Put your money towards the purchase of a used canoe or kayak. Get out on the water with what you have.
  17. All my 11 reels are Lews... I'm no help to you unless you think you could be happy with a Mag Lite.
  18. I use a 6'6" MF Team Diawa rod for casting 30' or less in moderate vegitation 2-4 feet below the water surface. For longer casts in deeper water I use an Abu IKE signature 74-5. This tip is rated as fast but that 80-20 design changes the rod action. It's very sensitive yet forgiving and the rest is pure back bone. I also use it for deep running swim baits and frogs. It's a very versatile rod.
  19. I use a series 29 interstate deep cycle battery for my 55 enduramax and a 10ah seal lead acid for my depth finder. Never have problems and batteries never get close to being drained. Im not sold on the AMG batteries. They're typically heavier and over priced. If I had to mount a battery on its side I would buy for obvious reasons. I use a 2-10 amp digital charger on the 29 and a 1 amp charger on the 10ah battery.
  20. I bought an elite 5. It would turn itself off randomly. I sent it to lowrance and they replaced it. The new one the sent started doing the same thing within a month. Sent that one back. Then they sent me the new Hook model with the chirp feature. It's been great... lowrance is a very good company. I'll stick with them and recommend them to all.
  21. My 2hp Yamaha 2 stroke always starts on the first pull.. those big boys are a pian in the ass at times and their to heavy for my canoe. Happy Motoring!
  22. Spray "Goo Gone" on the decals and let it set for an hour. It won't dry. Then scrape the decal off.
  23. I don't own a yak anymore, I've got a canoe I rigged. I tow it.. super simple.
  24. Funny, yak yak yak yak yak... Get a good fishing canoe..
  25. Just about everything is illegal in California.. What will they think of next.
