  1. I'm no fan of spinning gear but I've decided it's probably In my best interest to bite the bullet and buy a rod and reel that suits the technique. I won't use the pair for anything else so I don't want to spend more than $150.00. Any suggestions?
  2. I bought a Dobyns Savvy from TW and sent it back 1 hour after It arrived. YUNK! I ended up buying two Kistlers. A 7' and s 7'3".. The Magnesium's are Outstanding Quality rods. The 7' weighs 5.1oz and the 7'3" is 5.4oz. Both rods are well balanced. Best deal I've ever gotten on a rod..
  3. You have so many choices your head is going to spin.. Welcome to the what the hell should I buy club!
  4. Take them both, find out what they're best suited for. Use them accordingly..
  5. You obviously aren't throwing toads. The toads locate bass. You have a miss you throw a frog to that area. You need two rods..
  6. I have a Lews Magnum One that is brutal on hook sets. The Toad Face should be a good compliment to it. Your thoughts now?
  7. Why would you recommend the Dagger over the Toad Face? Keep in mind I want a little tip for casting accuracy. Alex says the Toad Face was developed specifically for toads and Frogs. I'm curious as to what your opinion is to both rods...
  8. I haven't bought yet.. Now I'm Confused about which rod to buy. As always.. Nothing to look at in stores.
  9. One of the sales guys at Cabela's recommended the MoJo rod to me. He had very high praise for the rod.
  10. The HMG is a very nice rod.. The grip is to narrow for me or I'd have kept the one I had.
  11. Today's best on a Gambler Toad with a Ribbit 4.0 double hook. Lews Magnum One, Lews tournament Pro, 65# Power Pro.
  12. I'm going to buy an ALX. The toad rod is a 4.5 power. Blanks are American made, all top quality components. Fifty more but worth it. I guess you could call there rods semi custom. 13. Aside from the yellow color I find them much like an Ugly Stick. Heavy and unbalanced.
  14. Last time I wanted to spend a hundred it cost me over two! lol
  15. ALX offers a toad/ frog rod.. It's a 4.5 power. Blanks are made in the USA $219 and Japan $150 I'm talking with them again tomorrow. Going to pull the trigger. The company is located in S. Carolina. I'm going to pass on a Dobyns.. Check out the ALX website..
  16. The cork grip was awful, all filled and didn't seat well against the back of the reel seat. The front reel seat threads were cut short. I could only wind the nut one time. the nut stuck out over the ring and epoxy. Awful quality rod. Totally disappointed with TW for sending a second. Re tubed it and dropped it off at UPS in less than an hour after arrival. Had a great feel, well balanced, nice guides. I'm bummed.
  17. Rod arrive in one piece, I sent it back. It was a second for sure. Am I ticked.. You bet I am.
  18. Delivery day! I'm watching the clock................ UPS is usually here about 10:30.
  19. What rods are you guys using for drop shots?
  20. I have a Falcon spinning rod that was 7'6" 1/4-3/4. I bought it for surf casting. It was really whippy so I cut it down to 6' 10" and put a new tip on it. Cast great now, has a lot more and quicker hook setting power and back bone. For six bucks it's probably worth putting a new tip on it and trying it out if you can live with the weight. That's a heavy rod.
  21. Nice Score, enjoy!
  22. Really, the Power Pro has more of a nylon feel. Casts a long way...
  23. For me all said and done, I like Power Pro for moving baits and the 832 for jigs and worms.
  24. I use CX on one reel.. I use it for leaders with all my others.
