  1. I like the Gambler Cane Toads best. The Stanley Ribbit is good but not anywhere near as good as the Gambler. I like the Ribbit hollow body Toads a lot. It's like a frog but they're heavier and have the same legs as there toad. Very versatile. Lunker Hunt and Terminator Frogs are decent, just add water... I like the Stanley hollow body toad better than all the hollow body frogs.
  2. Sure, pics and any information would be greatly appreciated.
  3. One more thing can to mind. Be sure to have anchors at the front and rear of the kayak. You want to be able to plant yourself so you can concentrate on your fishing without the hassle of controlling your boat position.
  4. Great news! Go get em ... Fish it like you would any other day except; pay attention to your casting accuracy. Time management is of the utmost importance. You have to keep your line in the water.
  5. Buy the Minn Kota edge prop.
  6. Does anyone out there have this trolling motor ? 40 or 54 lb thrust.... I need reviews I can trust..
  7. Most recent... There have been many like this one this year... Best year I've had. Can you guess the weight?
  8. They are a nice reel. I'm considering buying a couple Super Duty reels. They are seriously tough out of the box. The only thing I'd miss having is the main gear grease door. I've seen them on sale for $119.00 at American Legacy Fishing.
  9. I'm sincerely interested in these rods.. I noticed in pictures the split reel seat back half is short. I like that feature. It puts you hand really close to the reel and puts the reel right in the middle of my your hand. I'd appreciate any overall feedback you may have to offer. Up close pics of the rod reel seat with your reel on it would be great.
  10. I found Penn reel grease to work great and last. I've been using Lews oil, it very thin as it should be. I'll use acetone to flush out the bearings then pressurized air to get them fully dried before I drop that tiny bit of oil on them.
  11. I have a Team Lite and a Magnesium. I use them for moving baits. I like my Tournament Pro's and BB1 Pro for jigs, toads, frogs..
  12. Give toad fishing a try. Get some gambler cane toads. Keep your frog rod ready to go... The toad is a moving bait, when you get an explosion with with a miss get the toad back ASAP and cast the frog to The spot... Most fun bass fishing there is!
  13. I want to avoid buying online if at all possible. Going to take a ride to BP, Dicks and Cabela's this week to look at what they have.
  14. I'm looking for a Toad rod. Toads are no where near the weight of a frog so I want some tip action for casting accuracy. The Dobyns rod was YUNK out of the tube. The Kistler Magnesium's are a very nice rod, well made and detailed at that. A great buy, but; to heavily tipped actions for toads in my space. My Lews Rod will do the frogging for me. And for the record it would help if the sales guys at some of the dealers would take the time to school themselves on the different brands and models. Most of them are clueless... whats worse is they don't care.
  15. Ok so here my latest.. I ordered a Powell Max 3D 734. I'll have it in hand Tuesday.
  16. If I told you what I wanted in a rod build you will most likely misinterpret what I say. I know that's happened before. Then we have a problem. At least with TW for some shipping cost we can eventually get it right.
  17. I can use a medium casting rod I have that's perfectly suited for drop shots. I suppose I just want the advantage of the spinning gear for hook sets.
  18. I'll take a look
  19. After giving 832, Super Slick, Kast King and Power Pro workouts in just about every water condition!! I like the Power Pro the best. I found it has to be casted for awhile to bring out the best in it. And it is the best in my opinion. lol, I never thought I'd have to give a line break in time... It's a fantastic braid. I'm stripping all the other braids tomorrow and spooling up with 30, 40 and 65 PP before I head out to the lake.
  20. My Lews rod is a monster on hook sets. It's fine for bombing casts but it suffers in accuracy because I like to throw unweighted double hooks. It keeps the toad up on the surface without the extra weight. I had the two Kistlers on the lake today. The 7'er is a lot like my Lews so that ones going back. The 7'3 had a little bit of tip but still to heavy.. Again I have the Lews. As for distance the Lews beat them both hands down, it's also easier to cast and it's definitely a better balanced rod. I still think the Kristler is a great value... But not the right rods for me at this time. I may give the all purpose a try. It's a 1/4-1oz medium heavy 7' rod. Or possibly give the Falcon LowRider a try.. I think the blanks are a higher quality and made in the USA.
  21. I know you guys are kayak fans and that's great. About 15 years ago I rigged a kayak for bass fishing. I enjoyed the heck out of it.. Now I do all my fishing out of a wide14' canoe I rigged. I can get into the same places.. I have a lot more space and a lot more stability. I'm using a 55# thrust Minn Kota for power and a 30# thrust Minn Kota up front. It's set up like a bass boat. I built an outrigger for it that keeps it planted. I can move around any time I chose to. It's totally stable.
  22. I'm considering a part time rods by appointment business. Choose a brand. Buy one of every bass rod for inventory display. Fisherman stops in, gets a look and feel, decides on which he wants and I have it shipped in for him. Sell the demo inventory off at the end of the year and replace with current models. No Joke.. I'm serious. What would really be smart is to find 49 other guys to do the same thing. That way we could place our demo orders at the same time and get better deals. PM me if your interested.
  23. I suppose the best way to overcome the weight rating fiasco the builders have created is to find a rod builder you like and buy the entire line of rods. We can then decide which rod for which bait and bait weight... Or encourage a local shop owner to pick a brand and stock/display the line so we can get a look and feel then have him order our choices.
  24. A toad rod should have a little tip for casting and retrieving the toad thru junk. That little extra tip will help keep you from getting hung up in the junk. Frog rods are like broom sticks, the extra weight of a frog will allow for casting distance and accuracy. With a frog your twitching not retrieving... I'll post a pick of the tips under some pressure so you can see what I'm trying to explain. I ended up passing on the ALX rod.. Sorry Alex! I went with two Kistlers. 7' and a 7'3".
  25. That company should be ashamed of themselves for shipping a rod of such poor workmanship. I don't think buying a used Dobyns is the answer. Not when there are other rods available that are of fine quality for $175.00. Personally I would never consider a Dobyns again.
