  1. Your going to have to spend at least 140 for either of the Lews reels.
  2. I'm a Lews fan for sure sure. They're a great quality reel company with outstanding service. As for which reel, I have two BB1Pros and Tourney Pro's. The Tourney has dual braking system and is a smaller reel. It's a much more comfortable reel to handle. I use mine for some serious junk fishing. Never had a failure. I use the BB1 Pro for cranks. Both reels cast equal distance when pair with the same rod and line. A great compromise would be the Super Duty. It's tough and it cast a mile. It is a bit heavier though. If I had to recommend one reel for you it would be the Tournament Pro.. It's as close to perfect as you will find anywhere in its price range. American Legacy Fishing has a sale going on so take a look. There are no sales for the new G2 model anywhere... If you want a super lite that's tough and cast seriously far buy the new Magnesium frame Team reel. About $100.00 more. Mine is incredible in every way.
  3. I like some tip for toads and frogs. I have no idea how the Rojas rods are tapered. Odds are I'll never see one unless I go to a trade show.
  4. Good to hear you like it. Do you know if there is a weight difference between the 40 and 54?
  5. It's a great deal...
  6. Better off with macro magic rod... Much nicer rod same price.
  7. Check out the macro magic on eBay from Simmons before you buy the Ghost. Same price and you won't have to deal with the limitations of micro guides. It's a nicer rod over all for the same price while they last.
  8. Uni and Palomar work for me.. I tie an FG for leaders, in a pinch I'll tie a blood knot.
  9. I'd hardly call them gripes. I know I'm not 100% satisfied thus far. I'm also having a rod built so you're right on, Ralph Craft and I are working on one. I may even start the rod shop I've been thinking about. I've never just settled for anything.. and it doesn't mean a higher price tag is the answer. Yes, I did order a Toad Face rod. No way to look at anything around here. We don't have any other choice do we.. Some folks will settle for pictures, specs and verbal gymnastics if they want to. I won't.
  10. Ok so here's an update. I've been using the 76M Mag for a of couple days. It's a fine rod but.... The sk2 reel seat is small and the grip diameter is narrow. Its just to refined for a long Mag Rod. It will wear you out after a while. "It's tough to be using a 76 mag rod with that tiny reel seat". I think Powell needs to look for a more conventional offering. The SK2 is fine on the smaller lighter rods like the 683. As of now it looks to me on paper and in pic the ALX is really the way to go at the $200.00 +- price range. Plus, I like the idea of an American Made Blank. I'm going to order one and see how it feels and acts.
  11. A lot of the guys in the forum are Dobyns fans. Of course that's subject to change. I'm not sure if any of them have handled a Powell.
  12. Here's a close up pic...I put my Lews Mag reel on it. I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. It feels a lot different with the Mag reel on it. The reel seat is very small....
  13. I haven't seen that one but I can tell you a bit about my new 764 Mag. I weighed the rod, right out of the plastic. I remove the hang tag and hung it. 5.4oz.. Not bad for a 7'6" Magnum rod. It's balanced well for its length. The military green color is very cool and tough looking. Fugi guides are lined up perfectly with the spit K2 reel seat and the cork is very very nice... You can visually see the quality of the rod at a first look. So I went fishing with it today.. First thing I noticed and felt was the tip of the rod. It will work with you while remaining at ready. It's not a broom stick tip. The rod easily casts accurately because of it. Distance was very good with a toad great with a Ribbit frog. I caught my first bass about 30 minutes in. A 5 plus.. The rod was right on par with what Keith had told me, so excellent. I nailed the hook set and battled him through some heavy junk while reeling him in. The reel I had on it was a Lews Tourney Pro with carbonex drag washers and 65lb Power Pro. My only concern is the SK2 reel seat and the narrow cork grip.. Fatigue.
  14. Have you used a Toad Face?
  15. I've never heard of a weed chopper. Post a picture.
  16. When I set on toads or frogs it's a short thump and I know he's mine. It's like a drug for me...
  17. Use braid with a leader. Buy a different bait or put a larger hook set on the one you're using. When you get a hit be sure the line is tightened and your tip is down, ease the rod back while you continue to reel him in. What rod are you using?
  18. I've been interested in the ALX rods. USA made blanks by Hydra. ALX is owned by Hydra.
  19. My mistake... I was not considering the extreme.. May not be a bad idea to look at a few rods if you're going to spend that much for a rod. Is the extreme made in the USA?
  20. Look at Powell too. Better rod.
  21. I'll share information with family and friends regularly. Occasionally I'll give a stranger a tip if they're fishing with there kids. Aside from that... nada!
