  1. From what I've seen and held it seems the lighter action rods are far better balanced than the heavy.
  2. I have a Champion 734 in route.I'm hoping it arrives Friday, I'm contemplating the 5 and 6... Your review of the 5 certainly shed more light on what I expected to hear. Did the reel seat fit the reel feet well? In other words did the nut screw deep enough onto the threads to expose the finish ahead of the threads?
  3. I figured based on what I was told the 5 was a good casting rod. It's good to hear it from a person that actually owns one. Is it on the heavy side? Have you weighed it? Is it well balance?
  4. If you buy one it is $89.00, if you call you will get two for $100.00. The shipping is a flat $19.00
  5. I saw a couple of aluminum boats this year that were full restored. They looked brand new! One of them was finish on the inside with pick up truck bed liner spray. Owner said it wasn't expensive to have done.
  6. You can get two Rage rod for $100.00 at the St Croix retail store. Just call and buy them, they will ship.
  7. The Trilene recipe has changed.. I rate it a ONE and that's for there packaging.
  8. I'd opt for the SCIII for the extra money. The Dobyns would be another good choice. Call Brian at TackleTrap, checkout his website too. He knows his stuff ( unlike the Big online stores) and ships fast and free when you buy from him.. He's quickly become the only dealer I will buy from that has to ship a rod.
  9. I like P-Line CX. It's a hybrid line with little stretch it's tough and casts great. I will not use a mono line for anything anymore.
  10. This thread is a continuation-new start from another thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/163977-dobyns-champion-734c-vs-735c-full-cork-review/ Dobyns Rod reviews.. 734C vs 735C vs 736C
  11. Excellent review.. Thx for adding the 736 in there. From what I've recently be told the 734 is a great all around rod. Although it's rated at a heavy power and the 735 is a Medium Heavy here's how they stack up. The 734 In the 4 power world according to Dobyns it is a heavy.. When you step up to a 5 power things change.. So, in the 5 power world the 735 becomes a medium heavy. The word medium can be confusing but in this case the 5 tells you it's still a heavier action rod than a 4. That being said the 5 would be a much better rod for working in heavy cover... The 6 possibly better depending on just how heavy. As for casting the 5 will be very accommodating with a half oz bait. I'd be interested in knowing how the 6 tip would react to the same bait weight being thrown,. if its got some life I'm a buyer. I'd probably pass on the 735.. DTack made some great points I'm pleased to hear and agree with. He obviously knows the Dobyns rods. Now where getting somewhere... at least with a few of the Dobyns Rods.
  12. That's the one! Super comfortable... No fatigue, I can hold and fish with the seat all day.
  13. I did a bit of sanding on my Lews rod reel seat after the cork grip was installed. I taped off the cork and went at it slowly. It was easy.
  14. Interesting! No reviews yet...
  15. Have you done any reshaping to a reel seat?
  16. If you found s rod you liked with the exception of the reel seat that being the ECS you could do a little sanding and then use a 3m finishing pad on the trigger. On the other hand the SK2 leave you with nothing to work with.
  17. That's pretty close, the one I like has a hollowed trigger.
  18. As you know I'm big on the cut away ACS and I don't mind the ECS. I do like a full cork grip on my heavy rods and split grips on the lighter.
  19. I recently read the Dobyns rods are a little power overrated. Based on that if its fact you will want the 5. I love throwing 1.5s in rocky areas. I use a Black Tech Spec medium fast rod with a Lews Magnesium reel. It's as good as it gets. The rod is a true sleeper. I use it for 1/2oz lipless cranks too. My best Bass with this rod and reel was a 5.24...
  20. I want to hear reviews: Dobyns Champion 734C vs. 735C Full Cork.....
  21. Time will tell... But for your sake I hope you're right.
  22. Unfortunately Powell took a shot with it on the new 3D rods.
