  1. Post a pic, we want to see how it looks now. Congrats!
  2. Before you throw the guy under the boat consider his situation, finance, time, personality. I have a friend I don't see often that likes to fish. He calls now and then and asks me to take him. I gave him a reel and some baits so he'd have one decent reel and something to throw. He bought an ugly stick... so, that said we know he's not in the best financial position. Then his wife wanted to fish.. They talked about buying a canoe for a year or so. No boat... So I bought him a nice used canoe. He still uses my 30# trolling motor, mount and battery when they meet me at a ramp and I give them a hand full of baits to throw which I never get back... In short, "It's not they they won't it's that they can't". Back in the 80's when I had my sport fishing boat I fished for Blue Fin.. Now, That was an entirely different story.. leaches everywhere.
  3. I opted for a 6' rod. I fish out of a canoe so shorter is king for jerk baits. I use a medium heavy stick with a bit of tip, 40# briad with a 12# co poly leader.
  4. I'm looking at buying a 2 stroke 3.5hp motor from Florida Outboards.. www.ioutboards.com Should get me to 6-7 mph.
  5. My canoe is like standing on a concrete floor with the outrigger on.
  6. The crucial is a great rod. You've got it covered. A good toad rod has some tip for accurate casting. I'm really big on the Gamble Cane Toad. I use an IKE 74-6. Excellent rod. I can put a toad or frog anywhere I want.
  7. How much do you want to spend? You don't need a super high end rod for toads or frogs. I like the Abu Garcia IKE rods. $150.00 Based on what your saying a good quality MH 6'8"-10" rod will do fine.
  8. Quite frankly, I don't give a dam. I won't buy his reels either.......
  9. What is your boat budget?
  10. Try before you buy... They aren't all created equal. If you see a medium Magnum rod it's heavier than a typical medium heavy.
  11. Is this frame work in your canoe? I'm thinking of installing a casting deck in mine. I'd like to get up a bit higher.
  12. Good thread....................................................... I'm so sick of living in the North East. Making the best of it.
  13. Here's the deal. I'm in heavy cover a lot. I need power and a weedless prop. I have the edge on the 30 which pulls great in that junk. I want to slow down when I'm in open water working shore lines ect. Good thought though, Thx for that. Wayne
  14. I built an outrigger for my canoe. It's absolutely worth the effort. My canoe is totally stable, It's planted. I used 27" Fenders, framed them with Pressure treated decking board. The cross member is also cut from the same decking board. I put blocks on the yoke with stainless steal bolts up thru them. I drilled out the cross member for the bolts and use knob nuts to fasten it down. I can stand and cast all day without any worries of tipping over at all. No problem with my line either. Best $120.00 I've spent on gear. I can motor with the outrigger in place too. It slows me down about a 1/2 mile per hour. If I'm going across a big lake to another fishing area I'll pull it off to save the extra time.. If not I leave it on. I put splash shieds on it so If I do leave it on when motoring and theres a chop I stay dry.
  15. I saw something online for $100.00. I don't see where I can buy a 30# variable. Looks like Id have to step up to a 40#. I'll take a look Darren. Thx Retrofits can be a pain in the butt.. A good last resort.. Mines a 30# Minn Kota C2 like Darrens, I may step up to the 40# depending on weight. The MotorGuide Bulldawg looks tempting. 40# foot controlled. I've had my eye in one for a while. I held back from buying because It's not a variable.
  16. I use a 30# hand control up front on my canoe. The 1-5 is fine for moving along but for slow trolling it suffers. It's just to quick even on 1. Does anyone know of a replacement for the 1-5. I'd like to convert it to variable. Thanks in advance:) Wayne
  17. I would call them to discuss. St Croix is a good company. I'd bet they would send you the rod you want and for good reason. If not pay for the exchange and sell the rod like I did. Mine hit ebay and was sold in less than 2 hours. I shipped it out today. I'm buying another IKE.
  18. I know what you mean. One of my rods broke a few weeks back. A replacement arrived a few days ago. I had spent some money having an extended full cork grip installed on the rod. I didn't want to go thru the BS of sending the replacement rod out for a grip job and paying for it. I sold it last night on ebay. I'll replace it with a rod that has the features I want.
  19. The 735 is a Medium Magnum rod.
  20. lol Go BigBill!
  21. Have a great day.. Wayne
  22. I was using Lews Team rods. My price point per rod would be up to $150.00
