  1. I'm big into toad fishing in cover. Mostly heavy cover. I lost two big bass this year using the Stanley 4. The last one was huge 10 or more. Both loses were at the boat. I bought some Owner Double 5 hooks. The have a wider gap, longer throat at they set perfectly and stay in. Also the points are spaced evenly so the rig well and travel thru just about anything. If your throwing toads I highly recommend the Owner Double Hook. They're worth the extra dollars.
  2. I use Interstate Deep Cycle Batteries. I've been told a few time the Walmart batteries are made by Interstate. If you're on a budget get the Everstart deep cycle in a group 27 or 31 size.
  3. I lost 2 props off Minn Kota's while in reverse. Each time the prop hit a rock and spun the nut off the shaft. I keep a spare with me all the time now.
  4. I have 11 Lews reels.. I guess you could say I like them over all others. I'm not familiar with what you bought but my guess is it's a good start. Can't suggest what to use with them I don't know what the ratings are.
  5. Did he step on it ? Close a door on it?
  6. I recently bought two Villian 2.0 rods. They're very light and extremely sensitive. More than I expected and better sensitivity than any other Rod I own, owned or tried. They are the cats meow.
  7. Just thought I'd share my opinion. Lews Custom Lite and the Abu Garcia Villian 2.0. I'm a Lews guy through and through. I wanted a couple new rods and took a chance on the Villian 2.0... They're fantastic.
  8. I have a station near me that sells it. I'd like to buy but not for $20.00 a gallon. I'll stick with marine Stabil...
  9. I'm considering trying 80lb Power Pro for toad and frog fishing. I'm in very heavy cover. At times even the 65lb will dig in to the spool of line. I'm thinking the 80 at .18 should do better. Any thoughts ? 50 is out of the question for my needs..
  10. I have the Grass too. I love it for jigs and toads. As far as which one, they're all good. The Custom speed stick is a great rod. I have the Magnum one. The grip is kinda thick/fat... I had a cork grip put on it. I can only assume the micro guide model is a decent rod. Lews is a good company with vision. A 6'10" rod is all about the cast and the hook set with moving baits. I don't think you will make a mistake buying any one of them. Another rod to consider is the Abu IKE 70-5 power rod... it's 1/4-3/4oz... outstanding rod in every way.
  11. Poor workmanship......................... sent it back.
  12. Braid with a leader...
  13. If you're buying price that's not a bad deal. Personally I wouldn't buy it at any price. But, that's just me.
  14. I'd pass at any price. I can't stand spinning rods and reels but thx for the heads up. Sounds like a great buy.
  15. Medium Light Fast My favorites are a minimum 5 power up to 7 power. I fish heavy cover with bait casters. Most important is buy a quality rod.
  16. Power Pro - 100%
  17. Power Pro or Power Pro with a CX leader. I don't use Mono or FC. Can't stand either of them.
  18. I haven't used a spinning Rod and reel since 1984. I hate them.. Yuck ! Good move...
  19. Kayaks are extremely limited.. Get a fishing canoe and a trailer from Harbor Frieght.
  20. Today: I was throwing toads with double hooks into pads. I was using a Lews custom lite magnum grass with a TP reel with 50# power pro. Hooked a giant.. Fought him for 10 minutes then lost him at the boat with the net just ready to slide under him. Potentially a state record largemouth. Been dwelling on it since it happened ?
  21. The weight difference is unnoticeable but the carbon fiber looks nicer. ??? if your going to change it get a 95mm.
  22. I put a 95mm handle on mine. It's awesome. Still can't believe the price.
  23. I fish out of a rigged canoe I can stand in. I use rods from 6'- 7'6". If you haven't bought a kayak yet consider a good quality Glass, wide with a V bottom canoe designed for fishing. I run a 2hp Yamaha motor and Minn Kota 55 Enduramax T motor. I can go anywhere I want.. I hunt for big bass in heavy cover a boat would never reach.
  24. My rods 7' Villian MH 5 power 7' Lews Custom Lite Magnum Grass 7'4" IKE 6 power 7'6" Villian 7 power none of them under $100.00 but some rods to think about for the future.
