I like to use zoom super flukes when the bottom is scummy. You get the weightlessness of a soft plastic with the erratic action of a jerk/crankbait. You can also fish it a different depths and rig them weedless.
I caught a 10 lber on a square bill crankbait out of a 3/4 acre pond on a golf I used to live on in FL about 5 years ago. I also caught a 10 lber out of a 1 acre private lake in GA last year on a 10 inch power worm.
I first learned to fish from my dad. Then I began watching multiple fishing shows and read fishing magazines. I still use my dad's techniques, but incorporate the professionals way of fishing in too. Essential it becomes a unique style all my own that I feel works very well.
My wife loves to bass fish. She has always fished with a spincast or a spinning reel. We are going on a fishing trip in Dec. with some friends. All of us use baitcasters and she now wants to use one. I brought her one and she is learning slowly. She can throw it about 25 yards now, but still gets some back lashing occasionally. She has been using one of my 7 ft rods. She continues to improve with practice. As for setting the hook she is about 50/50, but it is better than it used to be. It all comes along with experience.
I usually have the most success with a crankbait, a Texas rigged worm, a jig fished on the bottom, or a spinnerbait slow rolled in the middle of the day. I had a little success with swimbaits, but you need to figure out the depth of the bass with different retrieval speeds.
I'm from the Savannah area. A lot of my friends and family still fish it, but they always catch and release there. I know one of my friends has caught numerous 5-6 lbers out of the river.
I went Saturday and Sunday. It was a great time. I have only been living in this area for a 2 years. I never thought they would pull that many largemouth out of the Delaware. Byron Velvick was fishing right beside my condo the whole tournament. I say him pull out a 4 pounder. Guess I will start trying to bank fish more around my place.
I grew up in South GA and I grew up learning to catch largemouth from my granddad and dad. I also got into redfish about 6 years ago while living in FL. Largemouth are still my favorite.
Welcome to bass fishing! One of the greatest thrills. I agree with the carbonlite combo. I have a carbonlite rod and bps qualifier set up and it works well for me.
I love throwing jigs around cover, but you can fish them in multiple areas with multiple presentations. have pulled some big fish out with them. Try tossing a trailer on your jig too.
I went on a bass fishing trip with my best friend. We went to El Salto where there are plenty big bass so I figured I would be at least close to my previous personal best of 10 lbs. I caught 4 in the 8 lb range and multiple in the 5-6 lb range. On our 3rd day there, I was fishing by a large tree with a 10 inch black and blue power worm Texas rigged and pulled up an 11 pounder. Needless to say I was pretty pumped. I also caught the largest fish of the trip.
Hey y'all. I am a new member, but have been stalking the boards for a while. Currently living in NJ, but born and raised in GA. Hope everyone is experiencing some good fishing.
