  1. Hey guys. I was wondering some spool options for the Steez ltd 103xh. I am going on a fishing trip in June that has some deep water and a want a deeper spool. I know the steez 103sv spool and the sv1000 spool, but I was wondering if anyone knows how well this spool works with said reel: http://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/phone/product/2911 If link doesn't work, the spool is the rcs steez hypercast spool on the hedgehog site. I know it's currently sold out, but I have seen it for sale other places.
  2. Dobyns 746 HP can work for pitching and frogging. Probably will work for A. Rigs too.
  3. I throw mine on a dobyns 705 cb champion xp.
  4. They are both just north of your budget, but I throw all my cranks on 2 different rods. Big cranks on dobyns champion 805 cb and small-medium cranks/squarebills/lipless on dobyns champion 705 cb. You can probably find a used one for around $180. For my big/medium cranks I use a shimano conquest 200hg 6:1 or curado 200e 5:1. For my squarebills/lipless I use a 7:1 Shimano Curado 200ihg or 8:1 Daiwa Tatula Type R because I like to cover a lot of water with these.
  5. I fish for bass primarily, but I enjoy catching bream, crappie, catfish, and multiple inshore fish. I do want to go fishing for salmon and some of those crazy amazon fish though.
  6. I have had plenty of success with a 3/8 to 1/2 oz swim jig with a reaction innovation skinny dipper as a trailer this fall. I usually have pretty good success with jerkbaits, but I haven't used them yet. I am actually going fishing this Morning and I am going to throw some.
  7. I was at Cabelas today and they had Lucky Craft 115s and 130s saltwater lures on sale for $7. I bought a few and considered using them for bass. Anyone ever tried the saltwater version for bass?
  8. I love dirty jigs. They perform great. I do use multiple brands, but I prefer dirty jigs.
  9. I have the best success with green pumpkin, black and blue, Okeechobee craw, black, and white. The other color I like is trophy hunter on Grandebass lures. I do change colors according to water color and time of year.
  10. Same one I use when I am bank fishing. Great bag. http://www.cabelas.com/product/cabela-s-advanced-anglers-8482-backpack/1546939.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftackle-bags%2F_%2FN-1100378%2FNo-0%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104619780%3FrecordsPerPage%3D18
  11. I use a dobyns 705cb which is MH/MF and I throw my squarebills and traps with yo-zuri hybrid 15 lb.
  12. I use a Tatula type R 6.3:1 ratio for my squarebills.
  13. I have a 702 and a 703 dobyns champion. I use the 702 for drop shotting only. I use the 703 for weightless tubes skipping docks, and smaller tubes. I use a pfeulger president on the 702 and an okuma helios on the 703. Never had any problem with either rods or reels.
  14. My wife uses 30 lb braid on her spinning reel all the time with no problems.
  15. Growing up in the country in south GA, we used to eat plenty of bass. As I have gotten older we don't keep bass to eat unless the pond/lake is really stunted in growth (most of the time I just give them away or dump them in a river, creek, or pond/lake if someone is stocking) or we gut hook them. We do eat our fair share of catfish, bluegill, and crappie though.
  16. I wear Huk, Columbia, and Cabela's guidewear.
  17. I have this one from Cabelas. It is pretty well built and has 3 Plano boxes. It's not my main tackle bag, but it works when I go to ponds and small lakes for bank fishing. http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/tackle-storage/tackle-bags|/pc/104793480/c/104777280/sc/104619780/cabela-s-advanced-anglers-8482-backpack/1546939.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftackle-bags%2Fcabelas%2F_%2FN-1100378%2B1000002949%2FNe-1000002949%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104619780%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU

  19. I would let the bigger bass go and take the smaller ones out. We did this at my friend's pond and it worked out well. We kept the small ones in a live well and when we were done we dropped them off at a guy's pond who was looking to stock it with bass.
  20. Not Philly, but I live right over the bridge in Palmyra. I bank fish in the Delaware. Not to exciting. Caught a few largemouth and catfish. I go fish in a couple of ponds/lakes on this side of the bridge. Olympia Lake and a few local parks. I did manage a 4lber out of one of those parks. Anyone got any good spots? I am a transplant from GA/FL so not too familiar with good fishing spots. Only here until the end of September Then heading back down to GA.
  21. No pics, but I have caught a snapping turtle, an alligator, a water snake, a pair of jorts, and a couple of broken rods. I also found a pair of Ray-Bans wading while fishing for trout and redfish.
  22. I go by species for my PB. Doesn't matter where or when I catch them.
  23. Harris chain lakes isn't too far away and they have some monsters in there. Okeechobee is a great lake too. I would definitely hire a guide if I were going to the bigger lakes. I lived in FL for a while. Don't he shy about wetting a worm in some of the retention ponds. I caught 7 fish over 6 lbs, including a 10 lber, out of retention ponds. Have fun!
  24. Bass pro brand aren't too bad, more durable, and are cheaper than GY. They also have double the plastics in the bag. GY senkos have better action though.
  25. If there are a lot of trout you can always try swimbaits that are trout color. Bass do feed on trout. Like other guys have suggested slowing the presentation down does help. I would have kept going with topwater since you did get a fish to commit on it.
